Tdavis, don't worry about what they say. Haters are always gonna say things just to get a rise out of people. My impression is that Apolo is well respected among the skaters and refs for his work ethic and integrity. As a matter of fact, I read this recently from a poster at OZ... A few years ago, at a World Cup in Europe, Apolo had gotten a DQ in a race (I've forgotten the exact circumstances). After racing was over for the day, I overheard one ref saying to another something to the effect of, 'It's too bad we had to disqualify Ohno, he's really a very clean skater.  |

I know this doesn't belong here and I'm probably starting something I'm going to regret, but I can't stand those stupid people on YouTube. I was watching some of his Olympic races and all that and those people are so adamant that he cheated and cheats and always will cheat, and the things they say on there about him. I know everyone has there opinion but it really makes my blood boil and it makes me want to break something. *sigh* Okay, I'm done. I just needed a place to vent. I'm calm now. That feels better. (I've got to stop reading those comments. I know it's not true and I just can't let it get to me) I know exactly what you mean. The negative comments are so ridiculous and don't make sense. Like one poster said Apolo shouldn't even be considered an athlete. Another one said he's always touching the skater in front of him to make him fall. One poster actually criticized Apolo for being too greedy to win, that he should have been satisfied to stay back and come in second. Can you believe it?! We all know most of the comments are by Korean ST fans. They just cannot accept the fact that Apolo can and does beat their top skaters. I think that many South Koreans are fanatical about speedskating, because that is the one thing where they can take pride in being #1 in the world. And they go kind of ballistic when Apolo wins and deprives their skaters of the gold. I think Apolo has 3 strikes against him in the minds of some South Koreans. First, he beats their skaters. 2nd, he's part Japanese. 3rd, he's American. People who know about anti-Americanism and anti-Japanese sentiments in South Korea will understand this. I'm not generalizing and saying "all" South Koreans. I know that many of them are embarrassed by this kind of behavior by some fans. There's even an Apolo fan club in South Korea. But I think it is absolutely insane when a skater has to have police and bodyguards protecting him when he goes to compete in an international competition. Crazy! |

I know. And as much as it ticks me off, I think it's really funny that they don't have anything else to do with their time but to dwell about something that happened 2-6 years ago. And if they are that disgusted by him, why do they keep watching races that he competes in?

 Wow, this topic never seems to go away. It seems that there are just as many people who post negative opinions as there are people who post positive opinions. Whatever the opinion it belongs to the poster and it can be ignored. Apolo is not alone when it comes to people posting negative thoughts. Every day some one posts something negative about some one on a fan board some where. We have all seen it. Even here. The only person who knows if he cheated or not is Apolo. He is the only one who knows that truth. It does not matter what is said by anyone about it, positive or negative. People will believe what they want to believe, positive or negative. People will pick and choose what to believe and what not to believe. Which is their right. I choose to believe what is in my .

As one of the "young bucks"...I have something I must say. I am not one to join in on arguements, etc. but I made a promise to others, and myself, and I intend to keep that.... Thanks Mtnme...well said! ;D BTW. Please no one attack the "older" women (or anyone for that matter) on this board...I have personally come to respect and appreciate them and I am privileged to associate with them. They've taught me a thing or two and I am grateful for that. I try to be a positive person but when I read and see that my FRIENDS are getting attacked so needlessly and unkindly, well that gets to me.  So please, consider that people have feelings and are human, we all screw up and have our own opinions...so respect that as one human to another...and leave age and personal attacks out of the picture.
