In Apolo's book he mentioned that he considers himself to be Asian (vs Caucasian). I also heard somewhere (I can't remember where) that he either has been or will soon be going to Japan. That is all I know about Apolo's Japanese heritage but I would love to know more, if any of you have anything to share about this. Has he been to Japan yet? Does he know his Dad's side of the family very well? Does he speak Japanese? Oh, and slightly off topic, are Apolo's eyes green or brown. At times they look green to me but other times they look brown. Thanks so anyone who can give me more info.

I think he went to Japan after the 2002 olympics and met with his father's family and spent some time checkin' out japan. I think he said he really enjoyed it. This is just stuff I picked up from snippets of info from other people, tho, so not very informative I know. Sorry 'bout that, lol. Intrestingly, on ohnozone someone posted a video from meeting Apolo at roots and a woman speaks to him in japanese and he replies in japanese. I heard from the people who commented over there he used to speak it when he was younger, but doesn't much anymore. About the eyes...I think hazel. My sister's eyes will go from brown to green sometimes too and she calls her's hazel...So I'm gonna go with that.

Thanks, Ruffian. That is certainly more information than I knew so I really appreciate it. Yes, hazel makes sense. I bet that is the color they are.

I've noticed his eye color change with the different colors he wears. In a black shirt they appeared a very light brown, but with a turquoise bandana they showed up a pretty sea green. This guy is so many kinds of beautiful! And I'd love to hear him speak Japanese. He may not have day to day use for it, but he should hold on to it. It's his heritage.

I have Japanese in me and my eyes also change colors (I wonder if that's the mix of things!). I've read posts on the OhnoZone and places where girls describe his eyes as deep brown. But I agree, hazel seems to be best, since I've seen them in photos to be much lighter.
I'm glad Apolo embraces his culture. It's something I myself wish I knew more about. I imagine because his father is full Japanese, his home life was much more Japanese centered (especially b/c of his mother's absence). I wouldn't be surprised if he spoke a fair amount of Japanese. Yuki's English is very good, but I would think he would still use household Japanese when the moment called for it when Apolo was growing up.

That is really neat that his eyes "change" colors with what he wears. I wonder if it is, as Lindsey says, if it is the mix. Yes, I agree, it is really neat that Apolo embraces his Japanese culture.

I can definitely see the Japanese in him. I recently met a guy who is around Apolo's age and actually looked a lot like him, though darker in complexion. He even had the wavy hair I knew right off the bat that he was Asian, and when I asked him what nationality he was, he said he was half-Japanese. So I guess I disagreeessment is, I can definitely tell Apolo is Asian. And of the Asian nationalities, I would say he resembles the Japanese accurately. But, I agree, Lauramj... the caucasian definitely comes through... I would be very interested in knowing what nationalities his mother has...
