More on Jeff's fall from the 1500. We are lucky that he didn't re-injure himself. Man, watch out for those blades! I wasn't able to get any live feed (not even close), but the reporting was just GREAT! Thanks to ALL of you who did such a wonderful job letting us know the results and all. Loved the pictures, loved that the Americans did so well, loved that Apolo won gold!

Just want to say "sorry" that I didn't say good-bye last night before leaving the boards. I was under some pressure from my other half to get to bed, so I watched the numbers come up for Apolo's final and then shut down with a HUGE grin on my face. Thanks to all for their information and participation. I enjoyed reading everyone's posts... I'm now off to read all that I missed last night. Yay, Apolo! He's our man! If he can't do it, no one can! P.S. I'm really proud of Katherine, too, and Jeff Simon, finishing so near the top!

Thank you, ruff, sk8on, aao (and anyone else I missed) for all the photos. It is so great to see our man crossing the line and standing with a gold medal around his neck. I'd love to see a pic of him slapping hands with Koreans around the rink after his win! Awesome! So proud of Ryan, Jeff, and Katherine, too. Thanks, guys!

The 1500 DQ is up, courtesy of lick10. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFComZxzfeMWhat do y'all think? It's certainly different to hear people cheering against Apolo... we are so used to the crowd going wild only when Apolo makes a huge move... or fellow Americans. I really don't think Korea can stand Apolo in general.

I have two questions: 1) What happened in the 500 so that Song beat out Jeff Simon? The splits show Jeff in third, but the final score shows Song in third, with a time a full second ahead of what the splits show. Anyone know what happened? 2) Anyone know why GBR got advanced into the men's 5000 relay final? That is going to be one crazy race, with 5 teams out there! Thank you to aao for the video! I should probably go make lunch for my boys, but will definitely view it when I can!

Linmiste, I don't know why there was a discrepancy in the times/placement for Jeff & Song, but as for your other question, what probably happened was that whatever China did to get DQ'd interfered with GBR, and if the officials believe that the team was in a strong enough position that they might have qualified if not for the infraction, they'll be advanced.

This is fun - on the wcsn.com homepage they have a poll to vote for your favorite speed skater and the choices are Apolo, Allison, Shani and Katherine! Apolo is ahead in the standings right now. Go vote! web.wcsn.com/index.jsp

Thanks aaosmts19! I loved seeing the race "in person!" I was trying to visualize it last night with the Live Results numbers and Apolo's were 2-2-3-1-1. I thought that meant where he was in the race at that particular lap, but he actually just bolted out in first place and stayed there the entire time. I guess those numbers are where he places speed-wise with the other racers at that point because it makes sense when you look at the timings across the board. Wow-how do they monitor and measure that? I think it would be extremely difficult if there is some kind of external monitoring/tracking system because they are going so fast and all piled on top of each other. Do you think they are wearing some kind of sensors? They all have a little round --what looks like --- an embroidered patch somewhere on the back of their skin suits. Could that be a sensor? Crazy. All I know is -- Apolo was on FIRE! (I gotta get off of here and get my chores done so I can be back on at 5:20PM PST today!!) (Oh, and I loved seeing the camaraderie before the race started and the little "good luck" hand slap acknowledgment Jeff Simon gave to Kyung-Taek Song)

Thanks, Lori! I didn't notice that China had been DQ'd and thus may have interfered with England.
