Congratulations to The Rocker Fund Skaters. 10 of the 12 skaters will compete at the Olympic Trials in September. (Skylar retired and Chris is dealing with injury) Now that they have earned the right to compete, they now have to figure out how to pay for it. (As one skater jokingly told me "Some of us are still trying to figure a way to make it without having to work a corner in Marquette") Here's the link to the TRF skaters Oly Trials tab to see what's new with the skaters and who is going. New photos by Teri Willingham from this weekends Desert Classic in SLC and Southern California training sessions by Jerry Search. More photos to come on the news section of the site. therockerfund.org/FORMgallery1.htmFinances are tight for everyone I know, but if you can spare a few bucks to send their way this season, the skaters will greatly appreciate it!

With training expenses so high and money and donations getting so tight, Zach has gotten creative with fundraising efforts. He only got one donation from The Rocker Fund, and that was from me. I know things are tough all over, but surely fans can afford a $10 donation (hey, I'm unemployed at the moment, even I can afford that!) to this hard working up and coming skater. So here is what Zach is proposing: I am having to get creative in order to finance my pusuit of the U.S. National Team. For $10 you can have an autographed photo of me and be a part of my upcoming success. If you do this I will send you another autographed photo of myself on the podium upon my attainment of the team, for free. Buy three photos and I will send you an autographed photo of every subsequent national and Olympic team that I make. The person who buys the most photos and/or provides the greatest contribution to my goals will receive an all expense paid Chipotle dinner with me upon my obtaining a berth on the U.S. National Short Track Team. And pass it on!! To obtain an autographed picture of Zach, go to Zach's page on The Rocker Fund to read his bio and see some photos of him. Or just send your donation to the address below: Zach Fuller c/o southern California Speedskating Association 5701 E. Thank You to everyone who donated to Zach. I felt so bad for him when he was the only Rocker Fund Skater who didn't receive donations. I'm happy to say that many of you stepped up and solved that problem in the last week. It's amazing what can be accomplished even with a $10 donation when many who care participate. Once again, Thank you so much for taking care of Zach. I've had the priviledge of spending some time talking to this admirable young man, as I know many of you have. Those of you who have, discovered what a great guy he is and how deserving he is of support. Now, who is gonna get that chipotle dinner?

If you're a member of facebook, Southern California Speedskating Association needs your help. Cast your vote for SCSSA with the Chase Community Giving charity site on Facebook to help out this much deserving club. My understanding is the charity that gets the most votes gets a hefty donation from Chase. Wilma Boomstra has turned out some amazing skaters. Not only are many of the skaters on the National team out of this club, so so are most of The Rocker Fund skaters who rely on donations so the club can continue to train all these wonderful up and comers. So cast your vote! apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/charities/1209237?src=wallpost&ref=nf

We have an urgent request from Southern California Speedskating Association (you know, the club a lot of our National skaters come out of! LOL) on behalf of Joey Lindsey. You know Joey mostly as a short tracker, but look what he's accomplished as a long tracker in a very short time! Those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting Joey know he's a very charming young man, and very deserving of any support you can give him. J.R. Celski (L) and Joey Lindsey skate around turn two as Eduardo Alvarez #49 falls down during the Men's 1500 Meter Semi-final at the U.S. Short Track Speedskating Championships at the Berry Events Center on September 9, 2009 in Marquette, Michigan. (September 8, 2009 - Photo by Doug Benc/Getty Images North America) I'll never forget Joey lapping the pack at American Cup 1 last year. Held onto it too for most of the race...until he just plain ran out of gas. Near the end of the race, the rest of the pack was gaining on him. He said Shani wizzed by him, and whispered something to the effect of a good natured 'ah, come'on man! You can do better than that!'. But sadly, poor Joey was completely spent. When he crossed the finish line, you could tell his thighs were just screaming at him in agony. No matter. He got a standing ovation and cheer from the crowd for the effort. Those are fond Short Track moments I'll always remember. It's not always the win, it's fighting the good fight. Joey has pulled off an amazing feat as witnessed in the letter below from Sue Perles of SCSSA. Any help you can give Joey would be greatly appreciated. Don't think your donation is too small, it all adds up when many kind hearted individuals participate. Joey Lindsey competes in race two of the 500 meter event during the U.S. Speedskating Championships at the Utah Olympic Oval on December 26, 2009 in Kearns, Utah. (December 25, 2009 - Photo by Matthew Stockman/Getty Images North America) Your donation is also tax deductible if given through SCSSA. Unfortunately, the time constraints are REALLY tight. The competition starts January 16th. So he'll need some moola before then to get his airfare. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can also become a fan of Joey on his facebook page! Become a Fan!www.facebook.com/pages/Joey-Lindsey/230217785387?ref=nf&v=wall#/pages/Joey-Lindsey/230217785387?ref=nf------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Letter from Sue Perles:Hi there. Nice to see the Rocker Fund out in force at the Montreal World Cup! Joey Lindsey is one of our Southern California skaters. He tried but missed making the Short Track Olympic Team. Joey then decided to try long track and is competing in the LT Olympic Trials this week. Well it remains uncertain if Joey will qualify for the Olympic Team, Joey has qualified for the World Sprint Team competing in Sapporo, Japan. This is a huge accomplishment for someone who has only been on long track skates for a few weeks! US Speedskating has told athletes that they have to pay their own way to Japan for World Sprints. If they finish in the top 20 a skater will receive some USS funding. So, I am asking if the Rocker Fund can assist Joey in funding his trip to the World Sprint Championships. It would mean a lot to Joey and would be an excellent project for the Rocker Fund. Thank your for considering this project and I look forward to seeing you all at an ice rink soon. All the best, - SuePlease send your checks/donations written to SCSSA. Please indicate on the check and on the envelope that this is for Joey Lindsey.
Joey Lindsey c/o Southern California Speedskating Association 5701 E. Vernon Street Long Beach, CA 90815
Thank You on behalf of Joey

Joey is off to Japan for the World sprint championships. I'm sure those bills for the expenses will be waiting for him when he gets home, so keep those cards and letters (ie donations) coming. Go Joey!
