The auction closed at $305.00 tonight. I would love to know who the lucky skater is that benefits. Thank you to Wags for donating the autographed Prada bag. Congratulations to the high bidder! It was almost me but I set a limit and I'm proud of myself for refraining from upping it when the winner outbid me.
I don't remember if I have mentioned on this board that I own the Apolo autographed roller skates from the Rachel Ray show. The autograph is a work of art (if I do say so myself) in gold marker. It really looks more like he used a paint pen. Anyway I'm rambling on about this to say that I recognized the signature on the Prada bag as his "good" autograph.

It really looks more like he used a paint pen. Anyway I'm rambling on about this to say that I recognized the signature on the Prada bag as his "good" autograph. ...his 'good' autograph! LOL ...as opposed to the one I got. To be fair, I was at the end of a looooooonnnnnngggg line of fans at US Championships, and I was the only thing standing between him and Nirvana (meaning the door and his escape! LOL) I'm sure by that point he was thinking "ah, comon', I'm tired, I'm hungry, my leg hurts, I've had enough fun...". So the quickie autograph has what looks like a little face for the last 'O' in Apolo - only I'm not sure if it's smiling - or sticking its' tongue out at me. (...and it REALLY does look like the latter! LOL) - but enough about that. Congrats to the winner of the Prada bag, and ultimately the skater who will receive the benefit of it. But even more, Thank You to all who bid on it. Your generosity warms the heart Don't forget, if you missed out on the bag, there's a signed T-shirt going up for auction too.

Nice job, everyone! The winner has been contacted and congratulated - just waiting to hear who the lucky skater is. As Mtnme said, there will be a T-shirt coming up as soon as we close out the current auction and evaluate our process...
;DThanks to those who bid - you're ALL winners in my book! ;D

Lori is putting the Apolo signed T-shirt up for auction on e-bay tomorrow. Here are the particulars.... _____________________________________________________________________________________ This is an auction solely for the purpose of raising money for our USA Short Track speedskaters through a grass-roots-fan-based fund-raising group called The Rocker Fund (TheRockerFund.org). We have been operating for less than a year and have raised over $4000 for TRF skaters to help them pursue their athletic goals. There are a lot of people from our short-track websites who will be following this auction, so for those who are familiar with us - I'm Lori (aka Girl Next Door) The item offered is a ladies' T-shirt autographed by Apolo Anton Ohno for a City of Hope charity auction - the signature is: "Apolo Anton Ohno" The T-shirt itself is light beige, and is of a very thin material - it appears to be of a very petite size, though the size listed is OSFM (One Size Fits Most). The signature is on the back of the shirt on the lower right side. It is typical in celebrity autograph auctions to show a picure of the athlete signing the item, but because the autograph was not obtained with the intention of re-sale, we don't have that to offer. Instead, we'll share the story of how the autograph was obtained by Tonya M., and how she came to donate it to The Rocker Fund... ...The shirt was originally won by Tonya on September 20, 2007 in a charity auction for CITY OF HOPE Cancer Center near Los Angeles. Apolo signed the shirt for this auction, run by 'Charity Folks'. Tonya's winning bid was $135 for this worthy cause. I met Tonya at the Short Track Speedskating World Cup in Vancouver, BC last October, and was thrilled when she offered to donate the shirt to The Rocker Fund. While at the competition, Tonya asked for and was granted permission from the Ohno family to re-sell this shirt at auction for the benefit of our USA skaters. We call it 'the little shirt that could' - it just keeps on giving! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO BIDDERS:
Normally, the Rocker Fund takes a 'hands-off' policy toward donations - checks are sent directly to the skaters or to their clubs, and fund organizers never see or touch them. We depend on voluntary reporting by the skaters to determine our effectiveness. However, since this auction is an unusual situation, we are only able to accept payment via Paypal. See below for how your payment will be distributed to one of our skaters.
TAX DEDUCTIBILITY: We are a grass-roots fan organization, not a 501(c)3 non-profit - so unfortunately, your payment for this auction is not tax deductible.
Payment instructions:
A) Payment must be received within 7 days of the end of the auction via Paypal, or the item will be automatically re-listed.
B) We ask the winning bidder to take a look at the skaters on our website, www.therockerfund.org., and choose a skater whose story touches your heart. When payment is received, the chosen athlete will receive 100% of the winning bid amount. The organizers of TRF will pay all listing and shipping fees. When payment is made, please let the seller know which skater should receive your donation.
C) SHIPMENT: The shirt will be shipped within 2 business days of receipt of payment - buyer will be advised of shipment method and date.
You can expect to receive a thank-you note from 'your' skater, and we hope that the process will create a bond that will inspire you to come out and see him/her compete someday!

PRADA BAG UPDATE:Congratulations to Jeff Simon the "beneficiary" of the inaugural auction item through The Rocker Fund. The winning bid came from within members of Got Apolo who asked to remain anonymous.
The future owner of the signed Prada bag is working on another level of "paying it forward" by donating the bag to a speed skating club for their annual silent auction. These funds are made availabe to young skaters-in-training who need to update their equipment or to cover their club dues.
Good Luck to Jeff and TEAM USA as they head to Vienna and on to Worlds___________________________________________________________________________________________ Don't miss the link above on Lori's post for the auction for an autographed t-shirt signed by Apolo and donated by Tonya.

. THE ROCKER FUND ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! The Rocker Fund has made it one full year. To date, the total donations to the skaters has totaled over $6000! Good Job to everyone who donated during the past year - and many thanks! We will continue the Skater of the Month as skaters sign up to participate, but they will no longer be featured on GA. We feel the year that Lindsey and Christy have generously supported this endeavor here on GA has given it a good foundation and it is strong enough to fly on its own wings. From now on, we will just update you all on The Rocker Fund thread here on GA whenever there is a new skater (along with any other information), and then post the link directing you to the skater’s bio page and donation information on TRF. WHAT'S NEXT?We have no Skater for the Month of April, and we thought this would be a good opportunity for those of you who are interested to participate in some other worthwhile supportive endeavors if you are so inclined. USSIf you’re a fan of Short Track Speedskating and you haven’t joined USS yet, I urge you to do so. This entity is responsible for the training of our National team and will most likely be the pool of skaters that our US Olympic Team will be chosen from. With corporate sponsorships drying up with our economy, these entities have an even tougher row to hoe and they need all the help they can get. (You might let them know you’re a short track fan, and you would like your donation to go towards that program, but don’t hold your breath on that one…LOL) Here is the link: www.usspeedskating.org/Go to the ‘About USS’ tab and scroll down to ‘Join USS’. Or you can just send a donation if you don’t want to join - but you’ll miss out on the interesting publications like Ice Chips and Racing Blade Magazine. (I signed up for the more expensive Supporter Membership instead of the Fan Membership ‘cause I wanted the magazine, but along with that, I also often get very highly amusing reminders in my e-mail to register for the competitions! LOL). CLUB LEVEL You can also donate to individual clubs to help their programs. Without these clubs, the National Team wouldn’t have a pool of talented skaters coming up through the ranks to eventually fill the National Team spots. For information on individual clubs, go to this link and scroll down to the ‘Skating Club Sites’: www.therockerfund.org/links.htm(I myself have a special affection for Midland (Barry Winslow's club) Bay County (The Izykowski's) and Southern Cal. club (too many skaters to mention) Lori is very active in the S. Cal club, so we all know where her loyalties lie... Don't forget, if you're near a club, you can always volunteer your time to help out too. (or *grin*, learn to speedskate) SIXTH RINGAnother good cause going into an Olympic year is the ‘Sixth Ring’ program if you would like to support the whole Olympic movement. Here is their mission statement: "Welcome to Victory in Vancouver: a state-by-state, hometown-by-hometown effort to help the U.S. athletes who are our fellow Americans and neighbors achieve their dreams of winning top honors at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada! It’s been almost 80 years since Team USA won the most gold medals at the Olympic Winter Games, and they’re ready to do it again. Your gift today can bring the United States to Victory in Vancouver!
After our historic second-place finish in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, and our amazing performance in Beijing in 2008... We've got a step-by-step plan for Team USA to bring home the most medals from Vancouver, to win it all for the first time in nearly 80 years! Here's how: We've recruited and are training an exciting team of veterans and newcomers to contest every sport. We're ready to continue to excel in the sports Team USA has historically been able to dominate, such as speed skating, Alpine skiing, and snowboarding. We're building up the sports Team USA has traditionally underperformed in, with a focus on winning medals in the disciplines with the most events. And the most important part of the plan is you! Remember, America doesn't send its top athletes to the Olympic Games — you do! Be a part of this historic bid for Olympic glory with your gift to the U.S. Olympic Committee." The highlighted statement is Oh So True! America doesn’t send its top athletes to the Olympic Games, Americans do! Here is the link to the site: www.teamusa2010.org/Homepage/tabid/452/Default.aspxTRF SKATERSDo you have a favorite Rocker Fund skater? Than this is an opportunity for you to revisit that individual and continue your support of their efforts. I’m a big believer in hard work deserves fair rewards. Of the Rocker Fund skaters, Lezleigh Jaworski, Erin Bartlett, Barry Winslow and Kyle Uyehara all finished the American Cup season in the top 10. Jonathan Sermeno was part of the Junior World Team. Jeff Simon was part of the World Team. In addition, the other skaters, even if they didn't make the top ten, still have much to contribute to the sport, so by all means, if you want to donate to them as well, please do. Do you have another favorite skater? There are ways to support them as well. Here is the link that will take you to specific skaters websites. Many have donation info. www.therockerfund.org/links.htmDon’t see your favorite skater there? Then pm me for info on how to support YOUR favorite skater. (Also pm me if I’m missing websites for skaters so I can put them on TRF) As always, we welcome any ideas you might have to help the 'cause'.

OK, I'll put in a plug for Northern California Speedskaters. We have traditionally been club skaters, mostly adults. At the moment we have a good bunch of young skaters 10-14. We don't have the level of coaching that sends folks to the national level, but we DO have a lot of fun! However, our new Korean coach is trying to turn us into hard core seriiioouuusss skaters 0_0 We skate in Oakland on Saturdays 5:30 to 7:00 pm and San Jose Sundays 11:30 to 1:00. If you live in the Bay Area come on out. SusanG

Well, after a week of asking, begging, pleading, and now just downright getting p*ssy, the TRF website still isn't back up and running. (Thank God we had no Skaters for the Month!) The site is still alive, it's the company that renews the domain name every year that is dragging its feet. (customer service....what a concept, ever heard of it?) It may require moving the domain name to another service, which will take even more time, but hopefully that will solve the problem once and for all. We'll keep ya posted as to when the site is back up. In the meantime... you can always get info at Rocker U and BB. www.rocker-u.net/therockerforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?

Did you ask them when they start counting that '48 hours' that they told you it would take to get the site back up? How annoying!

Haaaal-le-luj-ah!, Haaaaal-le-luj-ah!....Hal-le-luj-ah!, Hal-le-luj-ah!-----Hal-leeeeee-luuuuu-jah...TRF is finally back up and running, and all of your previous bookmarks and links should be working. Lawdy! I NEVER want to go through THAT again!!! I've updated the site, and you can read all about it on the News and Info section. therockerfund.org/news.htm.....especially where it says HELP! LOL. We have no skater of the month, but there is some information and photos you might be interested in on the Current SOTM page. (if you haven't been to TRF for the last month) therockerfund.org/FORMgallery1.htmI'd like to take a moment here to sing the praises of AllWebCo, who not only hosts the site, but sold the website template that was used for TRF and Rocker U. They went out of their way to help me solve the domain name problem, even though it isn't registered with them. (....yet!) If you're interested in building your own website, I can't say enough good things about this company. Here is the link to see what they have to offer. allwebcodesign.com/setup/index.htm....even if you don't want to build a website, for a laugh, you can check out the site anyway, if for no other reason than I am (obviously) very easily entertained and can derive absolute minutes of pleasure sliding my curser over the floppy disk in the upper right hand corner just so I can watch the little icon jump up and down and squeek 'Help Me' like a derranged chipmunk. ...what can I say, I'm easily amused... Thanks to everyone for their patience during the site's little hick up...(yeah, I can call it that NOW that it's over...)
