I was perusing the Going for the Gold book I own just now taking a quick break from studying... I'm interested in Apolo's early life.. and here's something I found while scanning...this happened after Yuki sent him to the OTC and he didn't get on the plane.
"Still, Apolo wasn't giving in. He kept his whereabouts a secret for a whole week. Finally, Mr. Ohno called his ex-wife's sister, who lived in Portland, Oregon. She came up to Seattle to talk to her nephew. This was a drastic move, since Mr. Ohno and Apolo were never in touch with his mother's family."
The story continues how Apolo realized his dad must be really upset if he called his aunt, etc. I just wanted to get everyone's opinions on this. I never fully read this whole book, and I was surprised to read this. Of course, I'd heard the story of how Apolo snuck off, but I didn't know how he returned, and I find it oddly fascinating how Yuki called in this strange resource...especially considering the history. What are your thoughts?

i had read about this article.....well in my opinion yuki did a good job on that.....i would say there was nothing wrong on what he was doing although he was not that close to his ex-wife's family.....well he was concerned about apolo's safety so he did a drastic move.....there was nothing wrong about it.....plus it shows how yuki loves his son so much and i find out it's so touching and sweet

I didn't know that his aunt was called. In his autobiography, I read where Apolo just said this "family friend" came to talk to him....so, I guess there IS "some" keeping in touch with his mother's side of the family...just how much and on what level, is not sure of, obviously.
Also, not sure if anyone else has seen this and I WISH TO GOD I remember where I did so I could post the link to it....
I read somewhere on the internet where his mother came out and said that "Apolo is a nice looking young man with lots of opportunities and as such, is dating around like any young man his age."
I thought that was REALLY weird, considering from what I read in his autobiography that he does NOT know his mother , nor does he want to. Either she was blowing smoke out of her rear-end OR...she knows this due to the aunt? Who knows....

weird i wish u would have saved that link. . . as for the whole aunt thing. . . hmmmmmmm i wonder what Apolo thought of that, and i wonder why Yuki didnt call his mother? how odd

Maybe the Aunt was around Apolo's age or slightly older and Yuki though he would listened to her, in the way you sometimes listen to an older sibling more than your parents.

Could be Bella, ya never know...it just kind of trips me out a bit to know that Apolo has at least an aunt here in the area where I live ( or nearby whereabouts ) and maybe, just possibly, his mother too ( that is, if she lives ANYWHERE near her sister ).

im much more curious about Apolo's mother than i am about hes Gf i duno why but i am, i duno if i can believe that she just left him for no reason, is that noisy? o well what do i noe

No, I don't think it's nosey but I'm just not surprised he does not delve deeper into it. It obviously IS a sore spot with him and hurts him. But being a mother, myself, I cannot imagine having a child and then, abandoning it. Giving it up for adoption, MAYBE, but just leaving it with it's father and that's it?
I know I could not nor would I NOT do it.

Maybe Apolo doesn't want to talk about his mother.
And just because Yuki has his ex-sister in law number does not mean that Yuki or Apolo aunt knows where Apolo's mother is. And who knows, maybe Apolo don't know her that well either.
It doesn't matter how much we want to know about his mother and why she left him, if he doesn't want to talk about it, then he won't. And when he does, then that's when I will form an opinion hwy she left or his relationship with her.

Maybe far, far into the future, when he is elected into The Greatest Athletes Hall Of Fame, he'll come out and explain the whole thing. It's kind of an enigma of some sorts though. Here we have, an outstanding young individual, in the public's eye none the less, and he also has a strong sense of mystery about him.

i felt pitty to apolo coz i know it's hard to live without a mother's love especially when he's the only son in his family.....well he do has a half bro who he doesn't have a 'special' relationship with him.....i personally think apolo should forgive his mom and forget his pasts coz you know, he's a famous and succesful guy now.....he has so much joy, happiness and etc from his dad, fans and etc so he shouldn't 'revenge' his mom

well maybe its his mom not wanting contact with him, and he doesnt seem to have a grudge against her or anything i just dont think we noe anything about her, i mean maybe she left because Yuki made her or something
