There's been a lot of discussion about Apolo and Julianne's likely dance over the past few days on AJ.com and elsewhere. The two announced Rascal Flatts songs are "Every Day" and "Life Is A Highway". "Every Day" is a triple-meter, mid-tempo song best suited to a waltz (or as my friend Justsayin' has pointed out, a freestyle version of a waltz, given that this is an exhibition and not a competition.) "Life is a Highway" is a "moderate rock" tempo song set in 4/4 time. Many dances are suited to 4/4 time. Here is a comparison in terms of the relative speed of the dance (the numbers are approximate bars of music per minute):

rumba (26-29), tango (28-33), cha-cha(30-33), jive(32-44), foxtrot (slow foxtrot, 29-30, regular 44-50), quickstep (50-52), samba (50-63), mambo (56).

If you define "moderate rock" at about 120 beats per minute, then the cha-cha or the tango are the best matches. Keep in mind that the initial time measure can change during the course of a song.

Although one recent news article has A/J dancing to "Life Is a Highway", it has also been reported that Mel and Maks are dancing a cha-cha/samba combination. More recently, Mel said on one of the entertainment news shows that they are doing a jive. All of those dances seem far better suited to "Life Is a Highway" than "Every Day". So at this point, many people are wondering if A/J will be doing a freestyle waltz to "Every Day" instead.

Julianne was spotted at this year's "Race To Erase MS" charity event in the L.A. area last night. Perhaps she and Apolo have been rehearsing in L.A.?

I have a few ideas up my sleeve that involve food steak dinner maybe since we have some right now.I am going to be missing tomorrows show since I am going to be blessing a mom in need who is coming out of a rough sitch but anyways.I can't wait to see Apolo dance again.

You know you're an Apoloholic when...
you find yourself grinning broadly in the middle of traffic because you'll see Apolo on your TV screen in less than two days.

Just to clarify... I get the impression that the 8pm show tomorrow is a countdown of favorite dances of the first 5 seasons. If so, I'm assuming that it's mostly taped packaging, and the live show with Apolo's appearance begins at 9pm. Any thoughts on this? I'm just trying to figure out if I can watch Idol, or if that will cause me to miss even a glimpse of Apolo.

linmiste I've been wondering that myself, and I am not sure either. But no worries I will be watching it instead of Idol! (LoL I can have my cousin TiVo Idol!) Apolo comes first teehee. And I love the "Apoloholic" name...LoL! Good one!

Even if the 8:00 show is taped from previous DWTS, you KNOW they will be showing Apolo. It won't matter to me that they are shows I have already seen. I can never get too much.
