Derek and Shannon....it was a big surprise, and I think they paid the price for their childish and unprofessional behavior from the week before.
It wasn't enough to apologize, they cooked their own collective gooses (geese?)
Derek had the unfortunate assignments of 2 high-strung qomwn with Jenny and Shannon; he did a good job in instilling confidence and developing their best talent.
But when he dissed the other dancers and the judges, for me that knight got knocked off his charger....

Not surprised at the results. They did it to themselves. Can't wait for May 6th!

At first I thought it was going to be Christian and Cheryl but then I realized it was going to be Shannon and Derek. Toward the end you can always tell who's going, at least for me I can. I look at their expressions and their faces said it all. I think the producers or Tom tell the couples who's going because every week the couple who's leaving always looks like they know its them. Anyways, I agree with that Shannon and Derek did it to themselves. Oh well, maybe Derek learned a lesson from this. I'll miss his dances but I'm sure we will see him doing the pro's group dances. I'm ready for Apolo next week!!

I for sure thought it was Marissa but when it came down to her and Shannon, it was a toss-up. I wonder what dance Apolo and Julianne are doing. Mel and Maks are doing a Cha-Cha/Samba medley.

www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=20080501abc04QUICK TAKE "DANCING WITH THE STARS" WELCOMES GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING COUNTRY ARTISTS RASCAL FLATTS, TUESDAY, MAY 6, TO HELP COMMEMORATE IT'S 100TH EPISODE "Dancing with the Stars" commemorates a milestone celebrating its 100th episode, TUESDAY, MAY 6 (9:00-10:02 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. In a special episode of "Dancing with the Stars the Results Show," Grammy Award-winning country artists Rascal Flatts take the stage as fan favorites and Season Four champions Apolo Anton Ohno and Julianne Hough reunite for a special performance while Season Five standout Mel B. hits the dance floor with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Apolo and Julianne will accompany the band as they perform their hit single, "Life is a Highway," while Mel B. and Maksim shimmy and shake to their hit single, "Every Day," off their latest album, "Still Feels Good," now available in stores. It's definatley going to be something Latin! Okay, how are Mel and Maks going to Cha-Cha and Samba to a song like "Everyday"? That song is like Viennese Waltz material.

What a great find, tdav! I am so excited to see them perform with the musical guest. That's a place of honor! And as much as I like Rascal Flats, I'm afraid we won't be able to hear their song for a good ten seconds after Apolo and Julianne hit the floor. Yeah!!! ;D Derek and Shannon are still being a bit coy in their appearances since the show. Shannon has said, giving Derek a hug, that she already won since she got to meet him. Derek's reactions have been more ambiguous. Although I don't think he was playing her -- I think he genuinely likes her -- I also think that perhaps she is hoping for more commitment than he's ready to give. They said on Jimmy Kimmel that they might go on a vacation together. I've also been thinking about the power of editing. I think the show did them a disservice this past week by showing clips of the difficulty in rehearsing rather than a clip of their visit to a children's hospital last week. The latter would have given a more positive spin to their relationship, but the producers didn't show that. If cameras were in my face 24/7, they'd see a generous, thoughtful, kind woman one minute and an irritable, lazy slob the next. But how would they present me to the viewing public? It's all in the editing. Thank God only my husband knows, and he's not talking. So, I think I'll take the video packages a little less to heart from now on, and judge more on the dancing and live interaction. I think Christian and Marissa should be next to go, with Mario, Kristi and Jason in the final three, but only Kristi deserves to win. I do think Jason has been a bit over-scored... Dance Center rightly pointed out his repeated posing. I still like him, though.

Linmiste I agree, it is an honor for a non-pro to dance with the musical guest. I'd have said as much last season although I probably would have had to say it and run!
I'm not at all familiar with the song they're dancing too, but I'll try to take a listen to it between now and then. By the 7th it will be playing in a loop in my mind no doubt.
Thanks for the info Tdav! You're so good for sniffing out the news.
Of the three seasons I've watched, this one seems the most scripted by far. The way their interviews lead right into the field trips. "He seemed like he could use some energizing so I brought him to a..." "She seemed really nervous, so I took her to a..." Kind of makes me miss the writers strike.

Here's a YouTube video of Rascal Flatts' 'Life Is A Highway'. youtube.com/watch?v=i8x-Ul6jShk&feature=relatedIt's from the movie 'Cars', and is more up-tempo - very well-suited to a fun, freestyle-type dance. For those of you in-the-know: If it's NOT a freestyle, what ballroom/Latin dances would go well with this song?

Woo-Hoo! In the poll in tdav's link, more than twice as many people picked A/J as the couple they're most excited to see! Boy, THAT was a tough choice... BTW, don't tune in Wednesday or you'll be 'a day late and a dance short...' I think Jenna meant Tuesday! EDIT: thanxx for the karma, whomever!

For those of you in-the-know: If it's NOT a freestyle, what ballroom/Latin dances would go well with this song? I'm not exactly "in the know" having only taken a couple of ballroom classes. To me, you can to cha-cha to almost anything! But I don't know the samba or mambo rhythm, so it could be one of those. I can't think of any ballroom dances that would fit this song. For Max and Mel, I agree with TDav that it sounds like a Viennese waltz. I'm very excited to see both of them, though of course, I would be miserable if something prevented Apolo's appearance. He'd have to offer me a formal written apology... or better yet, come apologize in person.
