Why the producers decided to shoot down Julianne I will never understand. She is a spectacular dancer. Hmmm.. has to be a reason. I know there's been a lot of speculation that Julianne requested a short season in order to pursue her music career. I never really bought into that, but then I really didn't expect Adam to be quite such a disaster on the dance floor, either.

I think Julianne getting Adam is worse than the Cheryl/Wayne duo and that was painful. Of all the couples, this is the one so unbelievable unsuited, which they usually don't do. The age difference isn't even as bad as the height difference, plus he shows little interest in hard work, which she's all about. I guess every season has a turkey and maybe they decided it was her turn so if I were her I'd want off fast, but I'm sure she'd rather be dancing with a great partner and getting lots of national exposure. Well, whatever.... guess I'll root for my faves. Sorry Julianne...after Apolo I think anyone's a let down.

He was a disaster, yes, but I actually liked him (AND Penn Jillette) more than Monica. I'm a huge tennis fan and love Monica, but absolutely cringed during her performance. At least Adam entertained me somewhat. Ok, you can throw darts at me now! Regarding Julianne, I think the producers were merely trying to spread the wealth - same as they did with Cheryl last season, pairing her with Wayne. Kristi blew me away and I am totally rooting for her to win it all. Love, love, love her. I'm really hoping her likeability and humility will take her all the way - unlike Marky's last partner, who rubbed me the wrong way from Day One. Sk8on, you nailed it when you said the annoying thing about Marky was ... Sabrina. Sorry, but I was not a huge Sabrina fan even though I thought she was/is a fabulous dancer. Go Kristi!!

Still haven't waded my way through my recording of the women. I can comment on the men, though. Jason Taylor and Mario - Dayyummm! I have to say I'm warming up to Adam, purely for the entertainment factor (other than the 'b**ch' comment, which was totally uncalled for) - and Penn, for the same reason. Unfortunately, the most 'verbally' entertaining men are also the worst dancers, so I guess at some point this is inevitably going to become a DANCE COMPETITION! LOL! BTW, did anybody else notice Kimo & Jan in the audience when the men were dancing?

Hi folks. Been a while since I have posted, but I have been here lurking and enjoying the board!! OMG..I am so surprised by some of the remarks about my boy Marky!! I love Marky Ballas! He is so handsome and a fantastic dancer too. He reminds me of one of those old time matinee idols. I was heartbroken when he left the show early last season. Just goes to show how different everyone's opinion can be! He and Kristi make a great pair. There seems to be a lot of good chemistry there. I am so happy Kristi keeps bringing up Apolo. He has been put on the "back burner" regarding that show for too long now!!!! Hope he get a chance to come to some of the shows in support of Kristi!! Derek is the main squeeze tho, wish him luck. He's a doll!!!

I definitely think it's the women's battle this season. The only serious male contender I saw was Jason Taylor. I thought Mario was very entertaining, but more of a pole dance than ballroom. (not that I'm complaining about a pole dance) If it wasn't for his hips (as good as they were) he had nothing that impressed me. He seemed very stooped over and his feet were all over the place. I'll wait until I see a ballroom dance from him before I render final judgment. Christian De La Whatever might be able to up his game enough. Not sure. I've always enjoyed DWTS, but there'll never be another season 4. Which is good. I don't know if I could take the pressure again.
OK...let the rotten tomatoes fly. Let me have it!
And yes Lori - I did spot Kimo and Jan.

Has anyone else besides me been totally underwhelmed with the choice of music this season?

It's been okay-ish. Last season That was pretty harsh. Hope it gets better. I loved Edyta's hair.

Aaosmts, I agree. The music isn't much to cheer about this season, but I felt the same season 5. When they finally picked a song that matched the dance, it was sung poorly. I hope that changes this time around.
I came home sort of tired this evening, dozed off during Frasier and missed the whole first hour. To be honest though, the only one I'm sorry I missed was Derek. Oh, and last week I called Steve, Albert. Sorry for the confusion, but he reminded me of Albert Brooks.
Anyway, here's what I thought of what I did see:
Jason - Very impressive Mambo, and so entertaining to watch. Edyta must be cheering inside. She's got a good shot at the finals. I didn't watch seasons 1-3 so I have no idea if she's gone that far before.
Marissa - It was heart breaking to see her upset. Her partner is a doll though and I believe it when he says he's happy to be with her. Their quickstep was high energy and fun. Good for them!
Adam - Funny to see him so far out of his comfort zone. I admit he tried, but still not great. I'll bet Julianne never thought she'd be cheering for a 6. Loved her legwear by the way. Where can I get a pair of those?
Marlee - I keep trying to tell myself to ignore the fact that she can't hear and judge the dance for what it is. I've danced without music before (don't ask) so I know it can be done. While not my favorite, her quickstep was still quite impressive. I think her talents will show through more in the Latin dances.
Kristi - Loved the rehearsal. Mark in that skirt was just what I needed this evening. He's such a fun kid which I knew from the youtube vidblogs. Yes... yes, I've watched them. He definitely got Kristy to shake it! Theirs was the best of the night. Please guys, don't peak too soon. Pace yourselves. Leave some surprises for later.
Mario - Loved it! Yes, he does need some fine tuning, but so far he's been amazing. What I'd really like to see is if he can carry the elegance of the Waltz. Quickstep, while it is a ballroom dance, is a bit of a cheat because it's so fast. I want to see another side of Mario.
... and
This time last year for the first time since my nieces ballet recital, I was actually moved to tears by someone's dancing. Our boy in a lovely gray tuxedo turned a quickstep into magic, and August wept. In lighter news, I also found out that he bites when provoked. Now all I have to do is think of a way to provoke him.

Yes, short track season is barely over, There will be no weekly, dapper dancing this spring to tide us over and the withdrawal symptoms are kicking in - Big Time! So August, You've piqued my curiosity. I had no doubts that our boy had a bite, you don't get to that level of competition without a fair amount of grit. So what specifically aroused our boys ire, and more importantly, What are your plans to get a duplicate performance? LOL!

Mtnme, Apolo munched on Julianne's arm to get her back for teasing him about his lack of upper body bulk. There's a screencap in Lindsey's gallery. Well worth a look.
As for me, I'd have to find him first! The man's all over the place. Last spotted in Vegas, he could be anywhere now. If he ever gets within biting distance I'll try to think up something then.

Because I am such a devotee' of this show I could go on and on... however I am impressed with those who can really dance and have a good teacher to find their talents. Kristi and Mark are superb..all the details and all the steps. Jason is right on track to keep emerging as a favorite. I love Mario and he has limitless potential. I agree that the music this year is underwhelming and some of the costuming (Karina..Marissa) would be grounds for legal action. Technically I found all the quicksteps really lacking in that close body contact that it should have. They need to go review Apolo's two near perfect quicksteps to learn what it really looks like from a novice celeb. I see Monica and Penn going off tonite.
