Lori, thanks for your pics, of the smoke in your area. My hubby took a lot of video, but I took my SLR digital in for cleaning last week and it's still at the camera shop... so no photos! The winds have shifted here, now blowing from west to east. So the smoke that had gone towards the coast is now drifting back inland!

Wow, everybody's pics are so beautiful. I'm not only impressed with where y'all live / visit, but what great photographers you are! Mtnme, I love scenic / nature photos, and I have a 'gallery' of seasonal pics that I change out every few months - it's time for some new fall photos - 'mind if I cop a few of yours??? Feel free- take whatever you would like, they're here for you to enjoy!. I'm quite quilty of having a penchant for taking scenic pics- to the point my friends say "Michelle, why are there never any PEOPLE in your photos?!" Glad to see you back on the boards Lori, you have been missed this week. Hope you had a great time! Thanks for your photos. The smoke makes for hard breathing, but some amazing sunrises and sunsets. Wish they came from better circumstances. I was crushed to hear Lake Arrowhead is ablaze yet again. My grandparents built a house there that my whole family has fond memories of. It is no longer in the family, but we all joke we're going to all go in together and buy it someday! Everytime there is a fire there, we fear the house is one of the casualties. So far, it has escaped. Today? who knows.... My thoughts are with all of you in S. Cal.

We visited family and friends in fire-ravaged southern Orange County (southern California) these past few days and we just go home... here are a few photos: Orange sunset taken from the community of Lake Forest on Thursday, Oct. 25th Another shot of the orange sunset (due to smoke) Later that evening, the glowing orange moon looking east Saturday morning, Oct. 27th, burnt hills east of Toll Road 241, near Santiago Canyon Clean-up right along side the road, still a lot of smoke in the air There were miles of burnt areas right next to Hwy 241, as we drove north There are still hot-spots around southern California but, hopefully, the weather will be in our favor!

I'm glad the wind has died down over there. I'm still thinking of the people who died and didn't get out of their houses in time. But your pixs are insight into what it looked like. Thanks Lily.

lily...thanks for sharing these pics! the colors were even more vibrant tuesday night...a red-orange sun (b4 dusk) and orange-yellow full moon! #1fan... I can just imagine how brilliant the colors were on Tuesday. Unfortunately, we were blanketed with smoke on Monday and Tuesday; we couldn't see sunrise or sunset. To top it off, I had taken my camera in for cleaning the week before... so no camera... bad timing! My smaller digital camera is on loan to my daughter-in-law and I didn't want to bother with my *film* camera. Camera was ready on Thursday, so took it with me to Orange County, for the previous pics. This pic was taken, from our hillside, at sunrise this past Monday... still the effects of smoke in the air, plus clouds from a weak low-front coming in.

Amazing photos Lily!
The "moonscape" photos are like it is here when we have a bad fire. So eerie-yet strangely beautiful- along with the "orange" sky.
Last photo is incredible- so sad it was the result of so much devastation. Hope the smoke clears soon.

wow lily...these are fabulous pics!!! ;D ;D ;D what magnificient birds! do you know how many live in that one nest? I'm not sure of the number of eagles in one nest, but that one was HUGE! I think I might have heard *8 feet* from one of the tour guides. Another time, when we were in Seward, I was told to go to the edge of town, to see another nest. There was one, maybe two eaglets in the nest, waiting for food from Mama. Anyone here know how many chicks one eagle can have?

They were everywhere and the most beautiful and majestic of birds. Thank you again for these wonderful photos! Mtnme, a few years ago, 3 of us took a 5-week driving trip up through Canada and Alaska, including the Al-Can highway. We were so taken by the beauty of the entire northwest. North, out of Haines, is a very large eagle habitat... but it wasn't the right time of the year to see the large population. Still, there were plenty to see and admire!
