Well, on to the final installment of Vancouver. It really is a beautiful city, with lots of things to do, and we didn't get to most of them! Our first jaunt was to Stanley Park. There is so much to see and do here, and we mostly just caught the highlights. We only got as far as the gift store for the Aquarium, as that would have been another full day in and of itself. Totem Pole park. Vancouver is a very multi cultural city, and everywhere is evidence of it's native indian roots. Lori got the inside scoop on the stone icon for the Olympic games, but I don't remember the exact particulars, so she'll have to fill you in. Like I said before, we caught all the fall colors just right! ;D View of the bridge from another side of the park I believe this is the site of one of the Olympic venues, possible the new oval, but I'm not gonna swear to it.... The harbors are magnificent in this city, and there are boats everywhere you go. We went to Granville Island, where Lori took some fantastic pictures of the Granville Market. Talk about hitting the mother lode! If you lived there, you'd never shop anywhere else! A feast for the eyes, nose and mouth! We had a wonderful lunch in town, (Deb and I both had the fish 'n chips, made with halibut! Light and yummy, we both thought we died and went to heaven. I haven't had seafood that good since I worked in Alaska for a summer!) Lori was a complete weenie about having her picture taken (I've given up on disuading others from posting my fat mug all over the internet, and now am using it as EXTRA incentive to get to the gym EVERY - SINGLE - DAY, so I don't have to suffer through any more...) The ensuing snivel fests about said photos was highly amusing. One would have thought someone stole her Halloween candy! ...and speaking of photos, who 'gave us all up' over on OZ? *sticking out tongue* to the snitch....LOL Needless to say, the others in our party found this photo phobia of great amusement, and since we can't resist taking that and running with it, we soon came up with 'The Travels of Lori" our own version of the GA travelocity Gnome. She's gonna have her own story book, I can see it now! Look for Lori to pop up from time to time! LOL (ohhhhh, I'm gonna be in SUCH deep kimshee for this one...but since Lori doesn't spend much time on this section of the forum lately, she may never see it!)

Lesson #1: Do not Travel with Mtnme Lesson #2: Laugh at how funny this really is. Poor Lori.

Thanks, Mtnme, for the pics and the story of your and Lori's adventure on the "Grind". You are my heroes. Good job but I could feel your pain. LOL
The fall colors are spectacular. Thanks for sharing those. We don't get fall colors like that here in Texas.
Vancouver and the surrounding areas are just breathtaking. Can't wait to experience it myself.

So, I was coming home from the gym, and look what appeared from someone's lakefront yard. There were actually 3 of them, and I think #3 might have been mom, as these two look like young'ens. I would have thought they would have been hibernating by now, but as we are enjoying a long - sort of- Indian Summer (not cold, but overcast a lot.) they seem to be taking their time about snuggling down for their winter snooze.

Coming into Squaw Valley. There's a golf course under all that snow somewhere... You take the tram over that middle mountain ridge and it takes you to the next one behind it. It's about a 15 minute ride up. The view from the tram. Ice Skating at the top of Squaw Valley. One of my New Years resolutions is to get in more 'ski and skate' time. A good friend and her daughter. In between photo ops, we spent some time teaching her how to skate. By the end of the day, she was starting to get the hang of it. You certainly can't beat the view from this ice rink. It's at the top of Squaw Valley at what is called 'High Camp". There's restaurants and a pool and spa area. All at about 8000 feet. The ski hill is behind the rink. I think that might be part of 'mountain run'. (It's been awhile since I've skied Squaw.)

Hi From Salt Lake City!
Late last night I posted to the "Apolo Encounters" thread, about our 2 days visit to the Oval. I wasn't sure where to post it so I put there, but it includes other skater encounters as well.
I kept the post fairly short because the hour was getting late. Feel free to ask me questions and I will answer them, if possible.
We're off to our last day of skiing here... we'll drive south for a couple of hours after we're done skiing.
I'll post some snow-storm photos after I get home.
Lily

WILDFIRE... I wish you could've been here for David's concert! Mari came to San Diego County for the first time this past week, arriving at the San Diego Airport on Thursday, June 18th. Our family members were at Mammoth Mountain; Sam and I left our condo that morning for a nice drive back home. After unloading, unpacking, and stashing things away, we headed for the airport... Mari's plane was 'on time', arriving just before 9:30pm! Friday, after a leisurely breakfast, checking e-mails, etc., we headed out for an all-day jaunt, to show Mari the sights along the coast of San Diego County. We started at the north end of Oceanside - at the harbor and then down to Carlsbad, with a brief stop at our son's home near Aviara Resort. Then down the coast highway through Del Mar, where we'd be the next night for David Archuleta's concert. La Jolla was our next stop... overlooking the famous La Jolla Cove, as well as driving by The Children's Beach, where the seals have taken over. Lunch was at the surfers' hang-out of Mission Beach. Then on to the end of Point Loma, down to the tidepool area for a view of the Pacific Ocean. Back up the end of the point, to the east side for a view of San Diego bay, Coronado Island and downtown San Diego in the distance. Only drawback is that we had our typical "June-Gloom" weather, with high overcast. But the temps were perfect for walking around the Cabrillo National Monument with the old lighthouse up the hill. Nearing 5pm, we left the Point to go meet our David fan-friends at the Sheraton Hotel across from the airport. Six of them joined us for dinner at the famous Anthony's Seafood Grotto at the downtown harbor area. (I've posted many photos of this area before, with all the ships.) After a great dinner, we all walked the waterfront until time to head home, for the next day was our big concert day! Saturday morning... drizzle in the AM, due to our typical heavy overcast... but it wasn't cold, thank God! Headed for the San Diego County Fair cos David Archuleta was the "Headliner" at the Grandstand Mainstage! This event was instrumental in getting Mari out to SoCal... as well as hundreds of other devoted fans from all over the world! Having all my friends share that experience was worth every penny spent; many had arrived shortly afternoon, and then we called each other's cellphones to find one another... how did we manage in the old days???!!! LOL. Mid-afternoon, I led a small group of us up into the top level of the Grandstand (I knew all the nooks and crannys... and back stairways... haha!)... to watch the 'sound-check'. Soon, we got 'busted' by the (friendly) Security guy who said we had to leave. But, not giving up easily, I knew a way to get to the side of the Grandstand so we went there. David had just started singing! He was in fine voice! We stayed as long as we could... but finally, we had to move out of that area too. Finally, show-time! I was able to buy 2 seats in the second row, just right of the center isle! Great views from here! This show (we all agreed) was the best of all the David concerts we've seen thus far. The atmosphere of the Del Mar Fair brought excitement to the day; the crowds in the huge Grandstand area must've been a sight for David to behold! Of course, the SLC show must be the one David favors, but this show was amaaaazing! He was *Master-class*! It was over all too soon! Mari had to fly home on Sunday/noon; she had to be at work Monday morning. So, we got to the airport around 10am, stayed with Mari until she got through 'Security'... her flight was on-time! It was a fantastic weekend... and here are a few photos! Mari's arrival at San Diego AirportMari's a golfer... so a stop at the famous Torrey Pines!Famous La Jolla Cove... too bad the sun wasn't out!View of San Diego Bay from the top/end of Point Loma... still overcast, but great views!Dinner at the waterfront... table right over the water!David Archuleta! We had great seats...
