my hubby and his friends will be going in a couple of weeks to the shogun derby and another derby @ june lake the next day! We were so lucky that we were there before the smoke from all the fires drifted over to the Eastern Sierras. Friends of ours went up the week after we were there and encountered a lot of smoke up at the Bridgeport area Twin Lakes. Good luck to your hubby at the fishing derby! If our family is any indication (good fishing) , he should do well!

the 'viper room" where River Phoenix died.. Oooh... that's a sad one, isn't it, aofreak! Thanks for sharing your Hollywood pics! We southern Calif. peeps tend to take this area for granted, since we live so close. We try to take the Grandkids to all the major sites, as we did with our Kids.

What a GLORIOUS day at the lake for the last few weekends. The basin has been choked with smoke for most of the summer- but NOT today. This is one of my FAVORITE hikes at Tahoe, The Rubicon Trail out of Bliss State Park, and I do it every year. Today, the light was just right, and I got some INCREDIBLE shots. __________________________________________________ Floating in a sea of cobalt ink Doesn't this remind you of the boat scene in "On Golden Pond"? I can hear the joyous music to it in my head right now. The 'shelf' along the west shore drops off abruptly. 2 feet to 80 feet in less than a few inches, which is what gives the lake its' deep blue color. The white sand in the shallows turns the water light to dark turqoise. We always hike to at least Emerald Bay. You can continue on to the boat launch campground, and even on to Vikingsholm. We decided to take a little nap on a few rocks in the lake. While I dozed, small trout (fry) kept nibbling on my toes that were dangleing in the water. I guess to a hungry fish, they look like 10 super big worms! LOL. You can just hear them now, "Hey Guys! Look at this! We just hit the 'Mother Lode'!!!"---------------------------------------------------------------------------- So Lori, I'M in training to do the 'Grouse's Grind'. How 'bout you??? (*hee, hee, hee, - tee-hee*)
