'Dancing's' Men Take To The Floor Posted by Laura Saltman September 26 at 03:43 PM | Comments (0)
There may be a sibling rivalry on the dance floor between last season's DWTS champ Julianne Hough and her brother, Derek (who is partnering up with Jennie Garth this season). But off the floor seems to be another story. I caught the two out for drinks last night after the show taping along with fellow dancers Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Cheryl Burke who had her boyfriend, Matthew Lawrence with her. There had been rumors about a possible relationship between Julianne and Apolo Anton Ohno, her last season dancing partner but judging from the fact that she walked in hand in hand with another guy this seems highly unlikely. blogs.accesshollywood.com/dish_of_salt/
so let me clarify this so that there is NO MISUNDERSTANDING... julianne walked in HAND-IN-HAND to this place for drinks with another guy who was NOT apolo...GOT IT

Very interesting, Number1...
Hey, does anybody know what episode of Cold Case Julianne appeared in? Either the name of the episode or what it was about? I know it was just a short part, but if it's ever shown again I'd kinda like to see it.

I feel kind of sorry for her, because they can all have a drink and she can't. We talked about that when I met her and they all went to Toronto to the Salsa bars and she said she wanted to come to Niagara Falls but was out voted. I said, you can't even drink in Canada until you're 19, and she said " I know, but I don't drink at all anyway." So, she probably had Pepsi." Wonder why the writer just didn't put she was holding hands with Zack. This is why those shippers keep this going. Because Zacks name is never mentioned or printed, they refuse to acknowledge him. That writer that saw her with him knows what he looks like. That poor man is getting dissed too..................Feel sorry for him.

This is my first time in this thread. Still not sure what moved me to peek in, but I'm glad I did. Those are very nice pictures of Julianne and Helio! That guy has such a smile on him. If you ever saw him not smiling it would probably be heartbreaking. Looks kind of like a priest in the first pic!
They've already begun making their appearances and being seen out and about. I'm hoping other DWTS couples will too. Time to start keeping my eye on Entertainment Tonight, Extra, Insider, and all that tabloid gunk. I know I shouldn't knock them. They provided plenty of footage for my Apolo collection.
A lot of the appearances Julianne made with Apolo were things he had been invited to. I don't know what sort of invites a race car driver gets, but I'm hoping she will get to go out just as much. Maybe now that she's made a name for herself SHE will get the invites and Helio will be HER "plus one"

angelina, thanks for these pics, they both look like they're having a lot of fun together. You're right August about Helio, he's got a great smile, I don't think I've ever seen him not smile. They make a great pair.

Helio is a good tennis player and had met Andre Agassi in a charity tournament, I think. This makes me even more smitten with Helio, since I am a tennis-playing freak - I play 3 times a week but would play more often if I could. Sorry to hear about your root canal ohnoagain ... hope you're feeling better! ______________________ www.indycar.com/news/story.php?story_id=10018 Hough draws comparisons between Helio, last year's champ By Deborah Starr Seibel Special to indycar.com
How lucky is "Dancing with the Stars" pro Julianne Hough?
The 19-year-old scored the championship last season with Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno. This season, she's paired with IndyCar Series star Helio Castroneves, who has been dubbed "the natural" by one of the show's three judges, Carrie Ann Inaba.
Nobody knew that the 32-year-old Castroneves could dance, including the two-time Indianapolis 500 champion. Their next performance is Oct. 8 (8 p.m. ET on ABC) in front of the judges and the large TV audience, both of whom hold the couple's fate in their hands.
"When you're doing the moves, you're using muscles that you never use, especially the legs," Castroneves said. "For two and a half to three hours (in the race car for Team Penske) I am definitely not using my legs."
The pairings on this show, which are decided by the producers, are based on ballroom imperatives such as proper height (men should be taller than the women) and television drama, which leads those in charge to try to find simpatico personalities. As it turns out, Ohno and Castroneves have a lot in common. They're both athletes and speed freaks," Hough said. "They're both adrenaline junkies. They both have this need for speed. They both turn left (in their sport) and their names both end in 'o.' The only difference, I would say, is that Apolo used his body for his sport. He used his legs. Whereas with Helio, it's his mind and his arms."
How would Hough assess the difference between Ohno and Castroneves at this point?
"Apolo's coordination was just a little bit better," Hough said. "He was able to move his hips and his body a little more. Whereas Helio is confined in his car and to move his hips is actually really dangerous. He has to stay very steady when he's driving."
It's important to vote for the couple via phone, text messaging and online (click HERE to see how and when to vote). During the live shows, judges give a score based on several factors, including technical execution. But the judges' scores alone do not decide a couple's fate. The scoring is divided between the judges' score and the viewers.
On the results show the following night, another couple with the lowest combined score from the judges and viewers will be eliminated from the competition. _____________________ I'm kind of surprised she said Apolo's coordination was a bit better (although I am not in disagreement!). In Week 1, I thought Helio did a lot better than Apolo did in his first week. In their respective second weeks, they were both fantastic, though.

She reminds me of a young Meg Ryan in the first picture, Julianne is gorgeous. And she looks so slim in the long shot.

Nice little article angelina, thanks! I'm not really surprised that she said Apolo's coordination was a little better than Helio's because in ST, he has to be very coordinated or he'd suck. But I think the reason Helio did better than Apolo his first week because of Helio's Latin blood, he's definitely a natural.
I'm excited to see how they do tonight!

I think Helio also had a lot more rehearsal time for the season debut than Apolo did. But Apolo sure caught up quickly as the season progressed. The Apolo Express, for sure!!

Posted on Tue, Oct. 09, 2007 10:15 PM Castroneves relishes “Dancing with the Stars” experienceBy JIM PEDLEY The Kansas City Star www.kansascity.com/sports/story/310724.htmlHelio Castroneves was in a serious mood Tuesday morning. A concerned mood. A slighted mood.
It was the mood of somebody who felt that he had been dealt an injustice.
No, the Indy Racing League had not pulled his driver’s license, nor had Indianapolis Motor Speedway asked for the return of the two rings he was awarded for winning the Indy 500 in 2001 and 2002.
Castroneves thought he had danced his feet off on the television show “Dancing with the Stars”, and the judges thought differently. Getting beat by Dario Franchitti is one thing, but Marie Osmond?
“I guess they wanted a little bit of controversy or something,” Castroneves said. “I don’t know. But I can’t go against them.”
But Castroneves could not stay serious for long. Not about dancing on television. Geez, the guy can find the bright side of slamming into a concrete wall at 200 mph.
Dancing with big-name stars and acclaimed professional ballroom dancers? Later for the serious mood.
“I have to say that I’m having a good time,” Castroneves said. “It’s a fantastic experience. I can’t believe how big is the audience of the show. It’s amazing. It’s incredible, you know. I went everywhere. I went to Iowa, Vegas on the plane and people would just be like, crazy about the show. It’s an amazing opportunity.”
He said rubbing wheels with the entertainment industry has not been the least bit dangerous or painful.
“I had lunch at (competitor and entertainment icon) Wayne Newton’s house in Vegas, I had dinner with him and Jennie Garth, you know, it’s been an amazing experience,” Castroneves said. “I’ve met so many people.”
Castroneves was introduced to the show by his good friend Apolo Ohno, the speed skater who won the dancing competition earlier this year. Ohno just had to mention one word to Castroneves to get the IndyCar driver interested: fun.
The show’s producers called, race-team owner Roger Penske gave his blessing, and Castroneves mamboed off to Hollywood.
Castroneves’ sister, Katy, was the dancer in the family when they were children. She was a ballet dancer in Brazil and a good one. Helio’s experience?
“My only dancing background was at Carnival in Brazil when you have some beers on your head, you know, and I guess you don’t count those times,” he said.
Did Castroneves turn to Katy for advice? No, he said, that’s like having people tell him how to drive a race car. So Katy is barred from rehearsals and advice-giving.
On “Dancing”, Castroneves is paired with Julianne Hough, a seasoned dancer who was Ohno’s partner earlier this year.
Castroneves says dancing in front of millions of viewers is different for him.
“You got the nerves going on,” he said. “It’s difficult because it’s not like the Indy 500 where I know what to do. It’s a little harder than that. But the good news is, you know that if something goes wrong, you are not going to end up in wall. But I have to say, the learning curves and stuff like that, it’s been very interesting.”
Castroneves was asked if he thought he would be in for a rough time when the IRL resumes racing next spring in Florida.
“Trust me, everybody has been very supportive,” he said. “Jeff Gordon has called. Jimmie Johnson. Mark Martin. It’s amazing. When it comes to the race community, everybody, even my colleagues, have been supportive and impressed. I don’t see any jokes around, I just see positive things.”
After watching his driver dance and schmooze, Penske told Castroneves that he should try his hand at acting.
“I said, ‘Roger, if you want to get rid of me, just say it.’ I’m a driver. I’m not an actor or a dancer,” Castroneves said.
Plus, he said, “I don’t think my English is good enough to understand me. And actually, honestly, I don’t think I could follow a script. Whatever I do, whatever I say, is from my heart.”
His continued presence on “Dancing with the Stars” hinged on voting by judges and fans after Monday’s show.
Castroneves spent Tuesday waiting for the verdict, which was announced during Tuesday night’s broadcast.
When it came — and, yes, he had survived this week’s cut — Castroneves’ mood returned to Castroneves levels.__________________ I have to say I agree ... Helio and Julianne should not have been scored lower than Marie and Jonathan. I'm glad his mood has returned to "Castroneves levels"!

Thanks so much for the article, angelina! Helio seems like such a likeable and straight-forward guy. I can't help voting for him (and adorable Julianne). I'm so glad that Apolo spoke to him about doing the show. I think Helio's words here could apply to Apolo, too, regarding acting: “And actually, honestly, I don’t think I could follow a script. Whatever I do, whatever I say, is from my heart.” I can see them following a script as far as hosting a show, but not playing a role that is contradictory to their character or involves making out with someone they don't love, etc. Regarding Julianne, it seems like she's having a lot of fun with a great "older brother" on the show. She seems much more relaxed and confident this season. I'm curious to see how Helio does as the season progresses. On his final chachacha, Apolo seemed so confident and almost professional (loved his solo work on stage before he met up with Julianne) and I'm curious to see if Helio will reach this level. He's smooth and hard-working, so I hope his hip action can improve, too!

Angelina, those pics you posted were great... thanks! ;D Wouldn't it be fun, to be able to watch Helio playing tennis. I'm also a tennis buff; I played club-tennis 3 times a week. If Helio were to play in another charity tournament, I WOULD go!
