Tyn, you are not a horrible Mom, but isn't it true how we all second guess ourselves every step of the way? I've been absent for a couple of days because of something Mom-related that happened this weekend. A friend of my son's, a 6 year old boy, just lost his Mom to cancer. I found out at my son's birthday party this weekend, which the little boy attended with his maternal grandmother. She was still in absolute utter grief over the loss of her daughter, but she was trying not to let the little boy see her grief - and she was doing a good job, because the little boy seemed to not fully grasp the situation, other than to offer that his Mom was in heaven. It just broke my heart and I can't stop thinking of this bright little firecracker of a kid with no Mom for the rest of his life. And I'll bet that Mom was worryin' about the same thing before she died and thinkin' she was a horrible Mom for dyin' on her son. I know stuff like this happens all the time, all over the world, but it's just so darn rotten and unfair. To make matters worse, the parents were divorced and the father does not get along so well with the grandmom and wants to restrict her contact with the little boy! So I'm a little rattled by the whole thing. Thanks for listening/reading. I'll get my groove back in a couple days, I suppose. Lori's fantastic tale and Apolo in Silver Silk are already beginning to work their magic...

Bella, my heart is broken. I mod a board for September 2005 moms and one of my friends on that board posted a very similar story about a little girl....I think 2 days ago? The little girl's mom died of cancer and she will live her life without her mom. If I remember correctly, she was only 7.
I hope this little boy's dad realizes that grandma could be a tremendous part of his son's life, and lets her see him (and him see her) as much as they want.
I will keep the boy and his grandma in my prayers.

School started today! Thank goodness cuz I was getting tired of putting up with fighting over the dumbest things, wining about being bored etc. etc. Kayla had a great first day, likes her teacher, shes in second grade. Made new friends, hopefully its a good year. My almost 3 yr old Samantha puts on her little backpack and says she wants to go to school. But I won't put her in preschool till she's at least 4 unless I can find a cheap preschool sooner than that. She already knows her colors, shapes, can count to 10(most of the time), most of her abcs. Smart little girl. So when does school start for everyone's kids?

Ty--you're going back to college? That's awesome! What are you getting your degree in? Sorry if I missed you posting this somewhere else.

Lindsey, I am in college. I am almost done and if I didn't have kids, I could be done this year. However, I will go this year and next year.
I am majoring in Sociology and education in hopes to be a teacher someday.
I have a degree in Paralegal Studies already, but I didn't really like being a paralegal. I want to go to Law School when my youngest child is in school all day.

My son goes to a year round school and has started 1st grade already over the summer. They do academics in the morning and various field trips and summer type activities in the afternoon during the summer months. He has a week off next week and then the regular school year begins.
Everyday I pack his lunch and put a little note in it for him from me.

I have had a few long weeks around here. I started babysitting a 3 year old to make some extra cash so I didn't have to go back to work.
On top of that, my daughter has given us a scare....she has had a lot of blood tests performed, and we are waiting for results to see if she has an underlying medical conditons causing her to be severely anemic.
My son started 2d grade and loves it, and my other son was kicked out of his Pre-School for not keeping his shirt on. Amazing if you ask me....he has a form of eczema that causes itchy bumps on the back of is upper arms all the time rather than outbreaks that appear occasionally. On top of that, he was recently diagnosed with a dairy allergy. It is not easy to have no preservatives, dairy, or dyes in the food we eat. (Oh and expensive) We have done a complete food makeover since all of his diagnoses and we have seen an improvement in his behavior and less skin irritation. Let's all hope he continues to improve and I can find a new Pre-School for him.

Mom's are such heros. The saying goes that behind every great man is an even better woman. I say behind every great person is a superhero Mom (or at least someone who plays that role). I declare this officially Mom appreciation day! Ty, hope everything goes alright with your daughter and they figure out the trouble (and the remedy) soon. And any preschool that would kick a child out for not wearing a shirt without working with you to come up with a solution is not the kind of place you want your kid anyway. You'll find a better school.

ohh ty ...my heart goes out to you... i hope there's nothing serious to deal with when your daughter's test results come back and as bella said, that pre-school doesn't deserve your son...you'll find a better one soon! besides being lactose intolerant...wheat is a major 'silent' culprit in many childhood allergies. isn't it freakin' scary when you start looking at food labels... there's alot of crap that we didn't see 20 years ago. yes it is a pain in the butt overhauling your family's diet, but in the long run you will all benefit from it greatly...good luck!
