Hey, I've talked to a few of you on PM's already and also from reading posts in here, we've got pet owner's and animal lovers in here. What a fun way to share that by a picture posting thread of them, right? ;D Since it's my idea, I thought I'd go first: First of all, my cat, Cmdr. Grey, who is 14 this year. He's half Russian Blue and Grey Tabby. He's my babe and I LOVE HIM to death! And, one more of Cmdr. Grey but Sintha was telling me about a cat she had that was no longer with her...I understand your pain, babe I really do. Here he is with my cat I had to put down a couple of years ago and she was also Grey's best bud, Wilma, my calico that I miss TERRIBLY. She was such a cool cat. She LOVED EVERYBODY! Now my dog, Kevin, that we adopted the day after his past Christmas. The vet believes he is half German Shepherd, half Chow Chow ( I joke around and call him Kevin Dog Chow...Chow, Chow, Chow)...I know, I am disturbed, tell me something I DON'T know! LOL! ;D:

What cute pictures, Amy. The cats and dog are adorable. I am sorry about your cat that is no longer with you. Pets become part of the family and we miss them so much when they are gone. Is that your little girl in the picture? She is a cutie.

;D Thanks Rose. Yeah, that's my Cassandra. My one and only child. I wasn't supposed to be able to have ANY children. ( See what I mean by not always believing everything doctors say? Going back to the thyroid thing for just a minute....). They do not know everything. I mean even with ALL the education, you have to remember...they are ONLY PEOPLE and make MISTAKES too, and unfortunately, on my body, too many of them! Wilma was the second cat I had ever had to put down. In both cases, it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do and it hurt so frickin' bad, but if you don't want them to suffer anymore...you HAVE to put them out of their misery if you truly love them and that, I did. She was a diabetic cat, too. I had to give her two shots of insulin a day, but she was worth it all. She was a great cat.

Every dog or cat I've ever owned has either been abandoned and I took in or adopted from a person or shelter. I am a HUGE believer in NOT abusing animals and taking one's who need a good home. Before I got married and had my daugther and was relegated to a full-time mom, I used to help the Portland Audubon Society with the rescue and care of the Wild Animals in and around Portland's West Hills that got injured or what not due to the "housing boom" up there in the 90's. I've been bit, scratched and God knows what by so many "wild critters". So what....they couldn't help it and it goes with the territory, ya know what I mean?

OMG of course i know what u mean i've been scratched and bitten too but only in playful ways. Animals will be animals and u have to expect that kind of thing if u work with them. I really respect the work u did Amy sounds hard but fun i can't wait to continue working with animals in the future.

Yeah wild critters are a whole other thing altogether. They fear man to begin with so they don't grasp as well as a "domesticated animal" that you are trying to help them. We usually have to put on thick, leather gloves to help the volunteer veterinarians hold them down while someone injects them with a sedative so they will calm down or sleep so that they can be treated. I've assisted with: Red-tailed Hawks, raccoons, chipmunks, squirrels, white-tailed deer, Great Blue Herons, various ducks, geese, and other migratory birds/fowl, possums....there were times when all our efforts made no difference at all and sometimes, even though you are not around the animals that long and don't really "bond with them" per se, you still feel for them. There were many times after I left for the day that I'd have to go down the way to the Hoyt Arboretum and take a walk. Sometimes even get out a good cry before I could go home. Some of those animals got so messed up, it was just incredibly sad.

I'm sorry, I got so into my story I forgot to comment on your dog, Rach...that's a cool dog. I love any kind of lab...I'd really like the chocolate one's, because you don't see them that often and their color is so cool. And you say it's part Husky, too? Did you see that movie "Eight Below?" I love malamute and Husky dogs.
I went to Alaska in the Winter one time to visit some friends for Christmas. We went on a dogsledding trip one day. The people who ran the outfit we went with did the dogsledding for the "tourists" like me in the "off-season" so that they and their dogs could keep in shape for the annual Iditarod race up there every year. That was so fun! But it didn't last near long enough. I wanted to REALLY GO somewhere for a long way. We just took a trail through the Chugach Mountain Range.

What adorable animals on here. I have quite a family of my own, but it may be a while before I can post pics up. But this is my most prized pet, my horse, Spirit.
