expedia has good deals, thats what im looking into I found Expedia to be the highest, they were the ones with the $1,200 deal for two people out of JFK, LGA and Newark. I really hate the other two companies, though I'm sure other members have had deals but Travelocity and Orbitz have not been the best with my family and I. All of those have the most expensive prices, since they are a third party seller. Unless you have e-mail updates sent directly to you or on your home page for specific deals that just MIGHT happen to be on the days you need them, otherwise, they're no deal. Your best bet is to go directly to the different airlines websites that you are willing to fly out on. For example: Southwest airlines out of Albany $164 per person to Salt Lake City $178 per person back Southwest out of Long Island $ 195 per person to SLC $162 back I found a deal on Delta to Salt Lake City my last time there. It came up on my Yahoo travel bar and happened to be just for the dates I needed to travel. If you sign up for each airlines 'special' e-mails, you get a lot of deals that never make it to the internet. I've never found expedia, hotwire, travelocity to be all that great for price. I almost always find it cheaper on the airlines sites, especially airlines that aren't part of the above travel ports. Jet Blue out of JFK--------------------------------------------------------- www.jetblue.com/$164 to SLC $169 back. That's $333 each round trip. I'm sure there will be taxes and fees, but still, almost half the cost of the travel websites. ...Just sayin'. I keyed in travel on Oct 16(thurs) and Oct 20.(monday) If you stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, they will pick you up and take you back to the airport.

Apolostarr, as Mtnme said, right now Southwest is only booking through Oct 30, but their website says they'll start accepting December bookings on June 26. Just for fun I checked current airfare from Long Island to St Louis - I used Oct 16 (Thursday) outbound, and Oct 20 (Monday) for the return flight and got a round-trip fare of $260-280 per person. I'll bet December will be higher, but I doubt it will be as high as the $1200 you're looking at now. Give it a try on June 26 - www.southwest.com. I hope you can find a way to go! EDIT: LOL, Mtnme - I think we were 'channeling' each other! Interesting that you picked the exact same hypothetical dates as I did!

I kept thinking SLC - not St Louis, which is where Apolostarr actually wants to go! ...ooopppps!

lol well I can't do SLC, I have classes...the St. Louis event works out better as far as timing, however the weather in New York can be extremely..."winterish" lol around that time so I may be..S.O.L. either way I'm in a hole, my mom wants to fly non-stop. So that limits airlines completely. And Long Island is out of the question, she hates the Island, I hate the Island and the cost of getting a car service to drive us to the Island is around over $150 one way. My dad won't drive to the Island because of the tolls and the traffic, the LIE is horrible. The only airports we can tolerate is JFK and Newark, more so JFK, but they have no non stop flights to St. Louis leaving.

I had to take a break because of school and for some other reasons partially related to this forum, but that's water under the bridge. The Main point is I'm back and I missed you and many of the members!

I spent some time today researching Korean websites to see if I could get an update on Ahn Hyun-Soo's knee injury. This is what I found: Ahn had fractured his patella -- one report described it as a "horizontal" fracture. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I picked up from another report that it had fractured into 2-3 pieces and was put back together using a pin, a screw, and some steel wire. All reports were in agreement that he also suffered significant damage to his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) as well -- they were using words like, "burst", "exploded", etc. -- it definitely didn't sound good. Nevertheless, the reports mentioned a 2-3 month rehabilitation time. It appears that Ahn suffered some additional inflammation after the surgery, and one report said that he went home to recuperate. There are no updates since April that I've been able to find, but I'll keep an eye out. Ahn recuperating in the hospital after his Feb. 26th, 2008 surgery: Also, the Korean ST'ers are having a training camp for the "candidates for the national short track speed skating team" from July 19th-Aug. 20th. They have invited 24 men and 12 women. I didn't recognize any of the names right off the bat, so I'm guessing it's for the up-and-comers.

that sure doesn't look pretty, does it? thanks Susie for the update. It looks like a long recovery for Ahn. I hope he's on the mend soon.

Southwest is running yet another round of airfare specials for the dates for WC1 in Salt Lake City. From LAX or Burbank to Salt Lake City, as low as $69 each way, depending on the days you fly. (Tues-thurs the cheapest, a bit more friday, sat, sun.) By the time you add Anthony's $89 dollars a night rooms at the Hilton Garden, split it with a roomie.... Yowza! How can you say 'no' ?? I just double checked, I could have saved a bundle if I had just waited a few weeks. Who knew airfare would go down even more??? Go to this link and look for YOUR city! (Most west coast citys are on the list for Salt Lake City.) www.southwest.com/hotfares/hotfares_air.html?src=e062408#bookEDIT: If you would rather go to WC2 in Vancouver. There are specials from LAX and Burbank to Seattle too.

I just double checked, I could have saved a bundle if I had just waited a few weeks. Who knew airfare would go down even more??? There IS something you can do, and it was a Southwest agent who suggested this to me one time... with SW if you ever see a lower fare, you can get the lower fare by canceling your flight then re-booking at the lower fare. The money you spent on the previous flight goes into your account as a credit, and you'll immediately use those funds to purchase the new flight. You don't actually get the excess back, but it remains in your account and you can use it toward a future SW flight - like, maybe, to St. Louis in December??? I'd suggest doing this over the phone with an agent, rather than online, just to be on the safe side... ( You do have to use the remaining funds in your account within a year - I'm not sure if you have to fly within a year, or if you just have to book within a year.) I'm a member of their 'DING' program, and I keep looking for one of our flights to show up on it, but that's usually a last-minute thing. If one of them does appear, I'm planning to use the procedure above to re-book.

Southwest Airlines has just opened up their schedule for December bookings. Apolostarr, right now, you can fly to St Louis on Thursday, Dec 18 and back on Monday, Dec 22 for $322 pp, (plus fees and taxes) - it's a bit less if you fly back late on Sunday evening. For the difference between a $1200 fare and a $322 fare, would that be worth a drive to Long Island? -------------------------------------- We're hearing from several different, but reliable, sources that Apolo will be skating in both of the first 2 World Cups (SLC and Vancouver). So here's something to think about: AmCup1 is the qualifier for those 2 World Cups, and it will be held in Minneapolis on Sept 27 and 28. So - if any of you peeps are near Minneapolis, you might want to think about attending AmCup1. My guess is that the atmosphere will be similar to Nationals - a bit more relaxed than a World Cup, with most of the same competitors. And it's not the weekend before Christmas, as Nationals is! From what I'm hearing, there are no byes into the World Cup events, so it would be reasonable to assume that if Apolo plans to skate the first 2 World Cups, he will be in Minneapolis. I've had plans to go to AmCup1 for awhile now, and I'm pretty sure Mtnme's going, too. We'd love to see y'all there!
