I believe she's still on the national team; I don't think they take that away from her. It's similar to Shani when he decided not to train with the LT team (although for different reasons). USS just doesn't pay for her training. Not all of the National team train together, but a majority does. Now I know why Tina kept saying she was coming to LA (cause she moving LOL). Crazy. I hope everything works out for her. that's what i thought too bbb...uss sure makes it difficult for skaters who do not train with the 'group'. last season, didn't anthony lobello train separately from the national team? ...must be tough being a skating maverick ...GOOD LUCK IN L.A. TINA!!!

I KNOW. You'd think they'd try to at least make things cohesive with the entire group. And yes, Anthony didn't train with the National team, but it was because he hadn't filled out his monthly paperwork. I understand what it's for, but I think it's kind of lame. LOL. All the same, I guess I'd rather have USS doing it's job than not.

Once you apply, it only takes about two weeks or so to get your passport through the regular application process, but it can take some time to gather materials. You'll need two photos that meet their requirements (Sears or Pennys photo departments will work just fine for that,) an old passport or a birth certificate with a raised/impressed seal, and basic info such as the birthdays and birthplaces of your parents. PM me if you need any help.

Well, it looks like things are starting to heat up for the events as far as people who will be attending. So we need to do a head count on how many people will be in SLC, so we can get enough cars set up and everyone has a ride. I know we have 4 peeps for sure flying on to Seattle to drive up to Vancouver. So we probably need a head count for the people planning to attend that event as well, or more accurately, who needs a ride!

I do have a couple of offers for rideshares, so if you're in need of a ride and aren't connected up yet, please let me know. If you're going to be in town the night before the events and want to join us for dinner, please PM me if you haven't done so yet. (That would be Thursday night for Nationals and the World Cups and Friday night for AmCup1)

Mtnme and Lori. Just in case I didn't do the pm thing right, I'll post here as well. My hubby and I will need a ride to the event. We are planning to fly Thursday night arriving around 8. I guess we won't be able to make it for dinner but hope to meet you in the lobby afterwards. Since we're flying back on Sunday, we've looked into taxi service to take us to the airport. Is Anthony at the HGI one of the skaters? He told me to direct my questions here because the ladies at this sight are more well informed than he is. If I can't buy tickets on Sept 1 during my vacation, will I risk it being sold out if i wait a week later?

If I can't buy tickets on Sept 1 during my vacation, will I risk it being sold out if i wait a week later? The hotel will pick you up and drop you off at the airport (from the hotel), so now it's just a matter of coordinating transport to and from the Oval to the hotel. So the first question is "what time are you flying out on Sunday?" (Everyone who is looking for a ride for SLC, needs to contact Lori ASAP, so she can get a total head count, and we know how many cars will be needed to accomodate everyone. And also, who is going - and when - to the airport.) Anthony works at the HGI, so he will have no info about tickets. Our experience is the Oval did sell out last time, the place was packed! So don't wait. Nothing would be more agonizing than paying for airfare, hotel, transport, etc and finding out the tickets are gone! You can usually buy your tickets online (at Nationals they let us print them out, WC they were will called) However, they are doing something new this year. Rumor has it that in addition to the VIP seating (which was for sponsors, ISU and USS,) there is going to be 'special reserved seating' for fans who wish to purchase it (for a higher fee) other than the general seating. Well worth it if you're flying in for the event. The Thursday night dinner has usually been close to the hotel (walking distance), and we may very well still be there when you arrive, so you may be able to still join everyone. We usually exchange cell phone #'s so we can coordinate with everyone. I didn't see a pm, (unless you sent it to Lori,) so I hope all this info helps.

Here's an update on Ahn Hyun-Soo, from the Korean news media (7/25/08): "The recovery [of] the knee is complete....[for now, Ahn is concentrating only on] muscular power training and rehabilitation treatment." Ahn evidently underwent an additonal surgery to remove one of the pins holding his patella (kneecap) together. The surgeon "pulled out one pin which was no longer functioning...where [it was] operated [on], one pin came to be loose, [and] there was a hindrance to training." "The rear cruciform ligament [ACL] was recovered...from the rehabilitation treatment." The article further says, "...next year(?), [in] October, [there is] the possibility of [Ahn] coming out in training [to prepare before team selection?]. ************************* As you can tell, I really wrestled with this article. I'm not sure if the author means this October, or October, 2009. I suspect where the article says "next year", it should really translate to "next season". But as far as I can tell, Ahn is planning to return. Reference article, in Korean: news.mk.co.kr/se/view.php?sc=30000024&cm=%EB%A0%88%EC%A0%80%C2%B7%EC%8A%A4%ED%8F%AC%EC%B8%A0%20%EC%A3%BC%EC%9A%94%EA%B8%B0%EC%82%AC&year=2008&no=465020&selFlag=sc&relatedcode=&wonNo=&sID=507

Susie - thanks so much for the update of Ahn's surgery. Just recently, I was wondering how he was doing. I hope he has good results on his recovery!

I wouldn't think this October...does that seem maybe a little too soon to anyone else? Of course, I'm not his doctor so what do I know. LOL

I wouldn't think this October...does that seem maybe a little too soon to anyone else? Of course, I'm not his doctor so what do I know. LOL I think he could certainly give it a try. IMO there will be two factors in play: pain and range-of-motion, and they will both impact each other. He appears to be putting stress on the joint in his training right now, and I assume that he's working daily on range-of-motion issues. The article mentioned a percentage (10-20%). I couldn't be certain to what they were referring, but those numbers would be within expected limits for the impact on his ROM (meaning that Ahn currently has 80-90% of his pre-injury ROM.) If so, he might be able to pull off a recovery. But everyone else is doing on-ice workouts right now, and he isn't. I takes about a year for a full heal on a major fracture like that. And some people never do recover full ROM.
