For Seattle attendees, there is a ride free zone in the downtown area. We used it when we were there in June... it's very convenient! It runs north from the Amtrak King Station, almost to the Space Needle.
Here is the website: transit.metrokc.gov/tops/bus/ridefree.html
Click it and go to the site for a link to a map.
And this is what is on the home page:****************************** Ride Free Area Riding Metro Transit is free between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily in Downtown Seattle. The Ride Free Area (RFA) extends from the north at Battery St. to S. Jackson St. on the south, and east at 6th Avenue to the waterfront on the west. Metro routes 116, 118 and 119 are not included in the Ride Free area. Metro does not permit bicycles inside buses for safety reasons. Bicycles may be loaded or unloaded at any bus zone at any time except in the Ride Free Area between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily. During these hours, loading and unloading bikes is restricted to a route's first and last ride free stop. This is a safety policy to reduce the potential of too many cyclists being between buses in heavy downtown traffic. * See the list of actual first and last stops in the Ride Free Area by route number [Adobe icon.PDF 21kb] For routes that use the tunnel, loading and unloading is possible only at Convention Place Station and the International District Station. The platform at the International District Station is much higher now (14 inches) than previously, and the road surface has a short sloping area before flattening out. Read and print the cyclists' safety message [Adobe icon.PDF 27kb] for other safety warnings. * Downtown Seattle Map [image 66 kb] shows the boundaries of the Ride Free Area.

lily...thank you for this info...this will come in handy whenever you want to visit the seattle area. Driving around in downtown Seattle is not too convenient ... from trying to find a parking space... to driving the hills! Yes, the streets near the waterfront are all hilly... and narrow!!! We left our rental car at the hotel and rode the *free bus* most places. There is the mono-rail but it wasn't running the days that we were in Seattle. I would expect that it's running currently... but I didn't check it out yet. There is public bus transportation from the airport to downtown. We're going on the Amtrak so we'll either ride the free bus or take a taxi to the Sheraton, depending on how much luggage we take.

Yea! Thanks lilyover70 for the info on transportation in Seattle. I've never been there so that is very helpful! So Lily are you planning on going in April?! I am hoping to and it will be nice to have some other GA'ers there. Oh the trouble we could get into...LOL! Anyone else planning on going so far? Or is everyone already using up travel time and expenses for the SLC race(s)? HAve a great day everyone:).

Hi Wildfire, Yep... we're planning to go to *A Night With Apolo*, providing we are able to get tickets! Ticket information is not available yet... but it's still in the planning stage. One of *Nikkei Concerns* senior care facilities is Keiro Homes. My hubby's mother resided in the Keiro Home in Los Angeles. We love going on the Coast Starlight/Amtrak train up to Seattle. The scenery is gorgeous! Apolo has given us a perfect excuse to go on that trip once again! Ya-a-y Apolo! ;D

Thank goodness the streets aren't quite as steep as S.F.... and they're only for about 5 blocks up and parallel with the waterfront area. Since my hubby and I are retired, we usually travel by train, just so we can enjoy the scenery! Amtrak travel is quite reasonably priced, especially for seniors, but if *time* is a criteria, then flying is the only way. We've criss-crossed the US and Canada many times, just to enjoy the scenery!

Lily, I took the Coast Starlight to San Luis Obispo once to retrieve my son's car (he had it up there for his pre-season soccer training but didn't win the 'parking lottery' so we had to get it home before classes started). The train was a blast, and I'd love for Mr. Girl and I to take it all the way north sometime. When I was at lunch (quite elegant, BTW) I met a few couples who had sleeper cars, and they left at some point for a wine tasting that was just for the overnight guests. Verrrry cool... I'm so jealous of you for going to the ANWA - I guess it's your good 'karma' for missing the Golden Moments event in August! Wildfire, I hope you get to go as well! I'm crossing my fingers for you! And Kirkland - no excuses, babe! You're right there, so you 'have to'... (nothing like twisting the screws, eh?) Hopefully Kurt will let us know when tickets go on sale... are you there Kurt? Don't forget us!?!?

Awwww thanks Lori! Yeah I am wondering where Kurt went too, LoL. I found really good airfare so I'd like to know when tix will be available, etc. to make further plans. I really hope it all works out so I can go! It's been a crazy, crisis-filled year so I need good karma now and this will be something great to look forward to, don'tcha think?! YAY...this is a little off-topic but 4 weeks to the Nationals Races!!! Have a GREAT day everyone!!! PS-I just saw the lights being lit on Temple Square Fri. and it looks AMAZING!!! I am excited for those who are going to see it. Hopefully we will have snow by then to make it look more stunning! (Although I love the no-snow thing!!!)

The website still has the Event Details as *Tentative Agenda*, so I'm guessing their still in the planning stage. I do hope all goes well with our plans to attend! We just got home from Cal Poly SLO late this afternoon... what a gorgeous day for the drive south along the ocean this morning!!! And last night we stopped to look at all the Christmas trees and gifts at the Apple Farm Restaurant. I love it when we (Grandparents) are asked to take Grandson back to campus! Truly, you should take that train-trip to Seattle someday! You did get to see some of the best scenery on your ride to SLO! We usually take a coach seat on the way north and get a roomette on the sleeper car on the way back to Los Angeles. The *sleeper fare* includes all of your meals, morning beverage in your car, as well as that *wine-tasting* you mentioned above. That wine-tasting is great... really relaxes you... (hee, hee) You don't know which is swaying... the train. or you!

I can't wait to see the Christmas lights at Temple Square! This will be our first time of going to SLC before Christmas. We've always gone there (skiing) the 3rd week in January. I do hope the ski resorts get some snow by then... but we hope our drive there won't be too harrowing!

Since it's been so long since anything has been said about this affair, I wrote to the event manager and here is his reply: Tickets are not available yet, but don’t worry, I’ve got you down for tickets. There won’t be a package deal, but Sheraton will have a special website linked from www.anightwithapolo.com with special room rates…I believe about $160/night for A Night with Apolo attendees. I’m sorry I can’t give a definite date for ticket sales, but I’ve got you covered. =)
