Hey, y'all! People seem to be really interested in this (well, DUH), so I thought it should have its own thread. Hopefully some of you will be able to go! I'm saving my 'karma' with Mr. Girl so I can go to SLC and watch some Short-Track in Dec & Feb, so I can't go to Seattle, but if y'all lucky ducky's who CAN go have anywhere near the experience I had in San Diego, it will be worth every penny! Please consider doing it! It's for SUCH a great cause - we need to take care of our 'precious antique' generation, 'cause they give such wisdom and rich life experiences to us and to our children... here we go... “A Night with Apolo” is a high profile benefit gala hosted by Seattle’s own, Olympic Gold Medalist and 2007 “Dancing with the Stars” champion, Apolo Anton Ohno. The fundraiser, benefiting Nikkei Concerns, will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008, from 5-11 p.m. at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel. “A Night with Apolo” will feature a Hollywood-style “Red Carpet,” reception, dinner, live and silent auction, entertainment, and dancing.
Nikkei Concerns, established in 1972, is a non-profit organization serving the Japanese and Asian American community. Their senior care facilities are internationally-known for improving the quality of life through care and compassion for thousands of elderly individuals. Nikkei Concerns provides a wide range of services, from cultural programs to skilled nursing care, which benefit Asian Americans of all ages.-------------------------------- I've summarized the info that was posted in the Apolo News thread... thanks to Toehold4 for telling us about it, and to Maria, Lily, Skaterswaltz Number1fan and Ohnoagain for additional info... Individual tickets - $250 The Seattle Sheraton 'will be having some incredible deals for Apolo attendees.' Don't call for those rates yet, though, 'cause the hotel doesn't even have anything confirmed about the event itself yet. Awesome--thanks, Lori, for starting this. I think this will be a good way to keep track of information as it comes in about the event...

Kurt put me on his e-mail list for the event, and Toehold is on the list, too, so if anything new comes in, somebody will post an update. He seems like a really nice, helpful guy, and he appears to think a lot of Apolo. I just got another e-mail from Kurt - I had told him that Apolo's fan sites are excited about the gala, and he should be prepared to get a good response from their targeted 'secondary audience' (Apolo Ohno fans), and he replied: Hi, Lori,
Thank you for your response and information. I will put you in our database and keep you posted on the event. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions…and don’t hesitate sending info my way, we’d love hearing about him (Apolo) as well!
Thanks...I’ll be certain to share your input with Apolo and Nikkei Concerns!Kurt Tokita Tokita Bethune, Inc. Event Mgmt. & Marketing Services Crown Pointe Corporate Center 4030 Lake WA. Blvd. NE. Suite 308 Kirkland, WA 98033 kurt@tokitabethune.com www.tokitabethune.com

One more thing, then I MUST get off this computer! When I first contacted Kurt, it was to find out how to donate to Nikkei Concerns, since I most certainly won't be able to attend the event. They ARE accepting donations in any amount - here is the link: www.anightwithapolo.com/nikkei-concerns/index.htmlScroll down to 'Charitable Giving' for info. They ask that you note 'A Night With Apolo' on your donation. As I said in the Apolo News thread, Kurt said there will be an online auction, too - details later. For those of us who can't attend, this is a wonderful way to 'bless' people who are close to his (and Yuki's) hearts...------------------ P.S. The link also confirms where this familiar, touching photo came from!

Hey Lori! Thanks for the added info. Kurt just emailed me as well and said that they are also planning some "other activities" which he can't disclose... . Sounds fun! He also asked me the direct link here so I hope he finds it! He said they've looked all over the site for news on the event and couldn't find where it was. So I am glad you started this link! PS-Off the subject. but how do you get a "karma" and a siggie? I am so new to this stuff! LoL.

I'm also on Kurt's list, in his database. But I need to tell him that I'm with this group b/c I hadn't done that in my 2 e-mails to him. I checked hotel rates pretty extensively this past weekend, for the downtown area closest to the Sheraton Hotel (within walking distance)... most all of them were higher priced currently... Sheraton was the most reasonable. I hope they will able to offer a nice package! There are lesser priced hotels further away, both north and south, but you wouldn't want to walk some of those areas at night (we have been there about 4 times but we always had a car). The hotels at the center of the downtown area have always been a little on the pricey side.

If you look at the left part of the screen where is says karma under people's names it says karma then it say exalt and smite. If you want to give someone karma you exalt them and if you don't like what they are saying you can smite them which takes karma away. As for the siggies they are the pictures you see at the bottom of people's responses. You can try to make your own or see if someone will make you one. I am not talented enough to do so. There are other threads that tell you how to get them on your replies. I hope this helps.

Lori, I posted a small blurb about this on the main webpage with a link to here as well... I was set to do this last night when I first read about it, but studying for a huge test got in the way. Now I see from Wildfire's comment that Kurt will be looking for where we are talking about it. Hopefully the link on the front page will alert website cruisers and pull them into the forum to learn more! Thanks for keeping everything organized!

PS-Off the subject. but how do you get a "karma" and a siggie? I am so new to this stuff! LoL. Wildfire- You get Karma when someone on the boards likes you or something you said, information you posted or you just plain did something nice. (Look under your name- you will see the exalt/smite boxes) Likewise, you can give karma to those who you feel deserve it. You can give one an hour. You have to be logged in to do it. Just click on the "exalt" button. You will notice there is also a "smite" button. Reserved for cowards who don't like you, what you said or your opinion and don't have the brass cahoneys to tell it to you directly. I don't smite people- even those who behave badly and deserve it. Tell them off maybe (and I've done that only once-she go bye-bye) - but no smiting. Sigie's you get from Lindsey for winning Apolo's Girl of the Week, (or you can beg and plead and just all around suck up to her) or you can make your own. It's the banners at the bottom of our posts. (you can make an avi too, which is the little picture below your name) Hope the info helps. There is a thread for FAQ and help for other information that may help you on the boards too. Modify: laughing emoties added to smart-aleck line. I know we don't have to beg Lindsey for sigies- but I'll grant you, the newbies may not- or get my humor....(...it's an acquired taste- and not everyone here "acquires" it!)

Aww, mtnme...nobody has to suck up to me to "get" a banner... I've said it before and I'll say it again... just send me requests for siggies and I'll try to do what I can with it as I have the time. I am by no means an expert at making these things...but I really do have fun doing them, and I like to do stuff for all the loyal ladies here! They're just my little gifts/tokens of appreciation to people!
