I guess I have mixed feelings on this. Would I like to see Apolo on a regular basis on TV? Yes. But I agree with Elle... He doesn't seem to be at the point in his career where he *needs* to do this. It doesn't sound like he wanted to do this in the past, so perhaps someone is pressuring him? I guess it'd keep him in shape and all. lol. The show is entertaining, but perhaps that's because most of the celebrities are people we haven't seen in a while (i.e., has-beens). Apolo should stick to what he does best. If he's doing this for fun, maybe he should evaluate the kind of message it sends.

I was really excited about this when I heard about it. But I keep trying to remind myself that it may just be a rumor. ABC says on its DWTS website that it will announce the DWTS cast on "Good Morning America" closer to the premiere date. I think that it represents a really great opportunity for Apolo. The timing appears to be good, and it shouldn't interfere with his skating or training...it's normally down time for him anyway, right? Presumably they're paying him nicely, and dancing is *great* exercise. It's possible that Apolo made those remarks without ever actually having seen the show. I think that it is well produced and entertaining. The production team goes out of its way to make sure that the stars are favorably portrayed to the greatest extent possible. Judging is constructive and kind (no Simon wannabes here.) Guest stars for the most part seem to enjoy being on the show, and they are genuinely disappointed when they are eliminated. From what I have read, many continue to dance recreationally. Also, the show gets excellent ratings, particulary among young viewers. It will keep Apolo's name "out there", and will probably spawn several other guest appearances. I really don't see any down side to this. I think that once he gets into it, he'll have a lot of fun, learn some new skills, and charm the socks off of the viewing public. I also think that the competition will fire up those competitive juices and that he'll do quite well.

But DWTS is getting to the point where you are going to have more famous and active people on the show. For example, Vivica Fox is an active actress and Mario Lopez is an active TV host. So I wouldn't be surprised if he is on the show. He would definetely be somebody that would be considered a front runner Better that than, Ice Dancing With The Stars

No confirmation, just another little blurb from someone at ESPN claiming that Apolo is indeed going to be on the show. www.buddytv.com/Dancing-with-the-Stars.aspxSpeedskater Apolo Anton Ohno to join Dancing with the Stars February 9, 2007 3:25PM
On yesterday's edition of ESPN's Pardon the Interruption, Michael Wilbon reported that Olympic Gold Medal winning speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno would be a contestant on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. As flimsy a source as a sports pundit might seem on matters of celebrity dancing, he's probably in the know. Wilbon works for ESPN, which is owned by ABC, which is the channel Dancing with the Stars airs on. That's more than enough credibility for me.
Ohno will likely fill the token professional athlete spot, previously held by Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice. He'll be the first athlete to compete on the show while still being active in his sport. As far as I can tell, Ohno is still skating and should be back to compete in the next Winter Olympics. I always feel like any “celebrity” still in their prime is doing themselves a disservice by appearing on a show like Dancing with the Stars, but, for Ohno, I can't think of a good reason for him not to compete.

More gossip...from the Rocky Mountain News. You'll probably need to copy & paste the URL into a new window. www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/news_columnists/article/0,1299,DRMN_86_5347596,00.html THE SEEN: Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno dining at Applebee's in Castle Rock on Saturday and talking about his upcoming stint on the next season of Dancing With The Stars, premiering March 19 on Denver's 7.

Good catch, Christy. I passed that along to OZ. There's some news today that Heather Mills (Paul McCartney's soon to be ex) will be a fellow contestant. Access Hollywood is reporting that the formal announcement of DWTS competitors will be on GMA, Wednesday, February 21st.

Well, he thrives on competition and that's what the show is about. It's curious to me that he would do it while still active in his sport. Has he considered that video from the show is going to show up at the 2010 Olympics and follow him around for years? Maybe that's what he's betting on, for the sake of bringing short track to the mainstream. In any case, people in the entertainment business make and remake themselves all the time - and he is enough of a maverick figure that he might be able to pull it off. I also remember that Alison was tryin' to get on that Donald Trump reality show, and perhaps she had some influence on his decision. (as if ANYONE could influence our boy...)
In the end, if I were a 24 year old guy in excellent physical shape who was emotionally/mentally secure, had some notoriety & got a little taste of millions of girls wanting me and someone offered to pay me a big wad of cash to show that off, and pit me against others in a competitive setting, I'd be in like flynn! Beats starin' down a cubicle any day!
In other words, he's doin' it because he CAN. I say, rock on with yo' bad self, Apolo, baby! He's not selling out. He's buying in. Anteing up. And the game has only just begun. Let's just hope that he uses whatever fame or infamy he gains to make the world a better place.

I've been dying for the formal annoucement. I wish they would hurry up...I don't want to wait another week...I want to know now!!

If Apolo is on DWTS, he has my vote. IMHO, this is a win/win situation for him because he gets his name out to people that didn't watch the games, he gets the name of his sport out there, and he gets a good workout by dancing. I watched DWTS for the first time last season, and only to watch Emmit Smith. After the first show, I kept watching because of Emmit and Mario.

Interesting...Not to be rude or anything, but doesn't she have only one leg?? Yes, that's true. She lost the lower part of one leg years ago in an accident. Before that she worked as a model in London and was quite pretty back in the day...less so now, IMO. I actually think that the timing for her participation on DWTS is not great because public opinion seems to be running against her in the divorce. A recent photo of her kicking a photographer is not going to help, either. Apolo brings a lot of class and style to whatever he does. DWTS is well regarded and I think his participation will only bolster is public image and career. Sometimes I wonder if Allison's glad that she *didn't* participate in the "tent city" version of The Apprentice. If I could find a partner I would try for The Amazing Race in a heartbeat! I've travelled off and on over the years but would love to do more. I have to pace myself on a teacher's income, though.

This sucks. He's bloody lost his marbles. I dont think it's such a good idea. "Fame" desperation does some crazy things, I see.

Although it would be great to see Apolo on television again, I don't know about this move. (get it? move?) I know that Apolo has been really drawn to Hollywood, but I don't know if this is the way to go. I find it ironic that his best friend Shani is so anti-Hollywood...
