Yikes!!! I couldn't wait to see Julie & Julia. Forgot it was "tax free" weekend! Don't know if I can get close to the theater or not. Maybe I'll try to fight my way through the crowd tomorrow.
Hmmm....wonder if popcorn is tax free.

I'm in Barcelona right now for work, so will need to go later this week. Wow! And I'm excited to be going to Marquette! Anyway....Went to see J&J. Loved it. I thought Meryl Streep and Stanly Tuchi OWNED the movie. I guess I consider the Amy Adams contribution OK, but more of just a vehicle to allow us the pleasure of the Julia/Paul story. As always, Meryl Streep was able to pull you into her emotions. When she was ecstatic, I was ecstatic. When she was anguished, I was anguished for her. What fun it would have been to be her friend. As far as Julie....ehh. Didn't love her the way I loved Julia. Not enough character for you to grasp. She was cute and funny, but nothing special. Let's see. I guess we need to come up with a rating system. So I'll give this this movie 4 out of 5 skinsuits. What did you guys think? gasp? We had different opinions about Public Enemies. What about J&J?

J & J 5 skinsuit rating from me
It's slick, fast moving, all heart and I expect to see either Meryl, Stanley Tucci or Amy Adams on the Oscar Podium.
Stanley Tucci's role is so strongly, understated--if that's possible--that you don't realize how good he really is in the role until you leave the theatre.
The end the movie with updates on Julia & Paul Child's deaths.
Then the update on Julie Powell---too funny. Nope, I'm not telling. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
Watched First Wives Club this weekend. It's still a good movie.

"Skinsuit Rating" -- heehee - I LOVE THAT!
Well, I was all set to take my Mom to see "Julie & Julia" today and couldn't wait, but she was a bit too tired and I'll have to wait on that one.
But I did go see "District 9" because I love everything aliens-what-does-the-future-hold-for-us movies. The CGI aliens that were nicknamed "prawns" (because, well -- they look like 7' prawns) were amazing looking. The film was full of political undertones and a sad commentary on the human behavior and condition. But I think the film was just lost on me -- I think it's more of a guy thing. I give it 2 Skinsuits (for the CGI technology).
I still can't wait to see "Julie & Julia" and will report back on that one.

To get off the subject for just a minute - This is why I quit reading short stories!! Playboy magazine used to publish a book of short stories every year. These were the stories from that year's magazines. (yes...they really do have articles) I even had one of these paperbacks from the 50s that included the original short story "The Fly". But I began to realized that they were all about the future and they were all very depressing. I mean really? Does nobody believe we have any hope of a happy ending? Issac Asimov and Ray Bradbury needed a prozac! OK - Back to skinsuits.....uhh.....I mean movies

LOL Totally agree Wags. Hated the Twilight Zone on TV, back in the day. Hate Alien Sci Fi movies. Did not see ET the first time around. Never saw Star Wars until I fell in love with Indian Jones aka Harrison Ford. When I saw the previews of that "thing" coming out of Sigourney Weaver's stomach, I opted out then and continue down that path.

The movie Alien *shudders* that movie gave me nightmares! And I'm being serious when I say that. I don't like sci fi movies, but I love vampire/were wolf/zombie movies. They scare the crap out of me, but I like them anyway. Odd I know.

I finally saw Julie & Julia with my Mom! It was delightful! I loved how the two stories were interwoven and blended perfectly even though they were about 50 years apart. Meryl Streep's Julia was just wonderful. I love her lust for life....in ALL aspects of her life. The Julie character was starting to get on my nerves a bit, but she was still adorable. I never really watched any of Julia Child's cooking shows, but they are running bits of them on PBS promoted around the film and they are so fun to watch. Yum.

;D ;D ;D YAY! I finally saw a movie that y'all are talking about! ;D ;D ;D Julie & Julia - I loved it, but then again, I'm a foodie wannabe. I've always said that if I had my life over again I'd be a chef or a dancer. Truthfully, though, I guess it's really not too late for the chef thing, and Julia kind'a brought that fact home. I have an odd comment about the movie - I can kind'a relate to Julie on a personal level... when she had the meltdown with her husband about the blog, the pressure to 'put something out there', that 'people were depending on her', blah, blah, blah... there have been some of those same conversations in my own house regarding RU and BB. Less dramatic, of course, but there have indeed been times that I would like to just sit in the middle of the kitchen and throw food at anything - or anyone - that's in my line of sight. (Or better yet, throw food at my computer.) Hubby likes to remind me that if I disappeared off the internet tomorrow, it would barely be noticed. Seeing the same thing between Julie and her husband was like deja-vu. Back to the movie. I loved both the husbands. I wanted to marry Paul, and I'm even more impressed that he listened to Julia's incredibly irritating voice well into his 90's (is it just me?). I think I would have blown my brains out long before that.*giggle* I had read ahead of time about Julia's dismissal of Julie's blog as an insult of sorts, so I'll admit to going into the movie with a biased opinion of Julia as somewhat pompous and insensitive. Meryl Streep's awesome portrayal of her softened that image for me somewhat, but not entirely - I just couldn't get it out of my head enough to embrace her. The bottom line for me was that I came home, pulled out Paula Deen's cookbook and started counting the RECIPES. Yeah, I could do it in a year - but then I started counting the CALORIES. Dinner, anyone?

Not drought season for ST but this seems like the best place for movie discussion. I want to throw It's Complicated in for discussion. For all of us who are divorced (not me) or know someone who is (everyone) then then is the movie to see and appreciate. You will even see some classic Steve Martin dance moves. Meryl Streep and beautiful food. As we left the theater my hubby was saying that he wanted to find a warm chocolate croissant.
A group of college age girls were a few rows behind us and their reactions were hysterical. I'm not sure if it was the fact that middle aged people have sex or a nearly nude Alec Baldwin. They were appalled! LOL!

They were appalled! LOL! We saw this movie last weekend, and I agree - it's great! Unlike some movies that put all the best stuff in the trailer, there were plenty of laughs from beginning to end. John Krasinski (Jim from The Office) played the adorable fiance of Streep/Baldwin's oldest daughter - loved his character, adding so many of the lighter moments... I couldn't make up my mind which of the men (Baldwin or Martin) I wanted her to end up with in the end. Great movie - you'll

LOL, Lori! Guess it depends on your perspective. I finally saw this last weekend. Being a divorcee, I was silently screaming "DON'T DO IT!!" every time Alex Baldwin got close to her.........
