Hey guys - I know I haven't been very "vocal" lately but I'm still cruising by every couple of days just to keep up. The lack of short track is making me a bit restless. So....I had a thought about a way to maybe stay connected during the long hot Summer.
About once every three or four weeks we could pick a movie. (we assign a different 'picker' each time) Everyone that's interested will go see it sometime over a particular weekend. We get back together here on Monday and discuss/critique what we saw.
I have to admit my ignorance about releases in other countries. And I would definitely like for our Canadian and UK (and any others) buds to participate but I'm not sure if you guys have the same movie release dates. Although it doesn't necessarily have to be a new release.
What do you think???

Hi wags!
How are you!!??
I love that idea. I'll play!
My favorite movie right now is THE HANGOVER and I've seen it a bunch of times by taking different friends various times so we can have a laugh fest. I think it is really funny. Don't know if anyone would be interested in seeing and talking about that one right now. And it's opened in Canada and the UK already, too!
But I'm open to others. Would this even count if its out on DVD? I would just need time to get it from Netflix or whatever.
Who's bringing the popcorn?

Give it a whirl, Wags. On another note, 'cause the ST drought has left us with not much to talk about, and this e-mail left me with an eyebrow (or two) raised in query- Am I the only one who gets this kind of freaky sh*t in her google alerts? I mean seriously, what IS this??? " Love Interest Of Apolo Anton Ohno. Later on everything which they had the latter could appropriate during the great titulary feudalists but although most ..."This particular one wouldn't load all the way, but they usually go on like this for days, paragraph upon paragraph of completely nonsensical gibberish, (and no, I'm not talking about Apolo's supposed love interests - which could also be put under that category - *snicker*...but that's a whole different topic, so I won't 'go there'. At least for today...) --- the paragraphs usually have Apolo's name thrown in as non sequiturs every few lines. ...bizarre....

HI, WAGS!!! I'm dying to see The Hangover... my son (who's getting married next month) had his bachelor party in Las Vegas last weekend, and I highly recommended that he and his friends see it before their trip. Everyone made it back safe and sound - I'm just glad that a movie (or worse, a CSI episode) didn't get made about their weekend! I love movies, so count me in for the ones that I can get on DVD, 'cause I'm not much of a theater-goer, unless it's a cinematography 'masterpiece', ala Dances With Wolves...

Hey, I love movies! I'll be here when time permits. Recently, we saw 'Angels and Demons', 'Star Trek' and 'Sin Nombre'. Special effects on 'Star Trek' must be seen on the large screen, if you're into science-fiction. 'Sin Nombre' is a sleeper but won awards; it's a very heavy drama. I wanted to see this movie about people trying to get to the US from Mexico, on trains. My paternal grandparents came to the US in the 1900s from Japan, to Mexico and then to their sponsors in the CA bay area. This weekend we're trying to decide on 'Taking of Pelham 123' (a remake) or 'Night at the Museum'. Also, I want to see 'Up' and 'Transformers, Revenge of the fallen'. Yep, I go for the kids (influenced by our grandkids) movies too... but mostly I like to be entertained with action or suspense movies... like the Bourne series! As soon as I figure out which memory-card has pics of Mari and me, during her visit... I'll post it on the "where have you been" thread... but don't hold your breathe cos Sam and I are going up to Mission Viejo! LOL

OK skaterswaltz - you're IT! Since you were the first to respond why don't you pick the first movie.
It can be a new one or any old one that you just love. The only criteria is that it should be something you think could lead to a little discussion.
Give us a title, we'll go see it this weekend, and come back Monday or Tuesday (or whenever) and pick it apart!
I'm so excited!!!

OK - I'll start. If you don't want the movie ruined for you, quit reading now. We'll be discussing all parts of the film including the end.
First off let me explain that I'm not a comedy person. I think the last comedy I saw was "There's Something About Mary". So needless to say, I wasn't expecting much. But this was an exercise to foster some communication during our ST down time, so I'll be a sport and take part.
Well, what a surprise! I laughed so hard at times that I thought I might pee my pants. I was so pleased by the UNpredictability of the plot. Yes...you knew the car wasn't going to make it, and yes...you knew they would all make it back for the wedding. Those movie formulas can't be changed. But the rest of the series of events was refreshingly surprising.
I just loved the chicken and the fact there was never any explanation for it. I just loved the cameo by Carrot Top. And I think my favorite was the naked guy jumping out of the trunk.
And my favorite line from the movie: I didn't know they gave rings for the Holocaust.
Your thoughts???

I'm so glad you liked it wags! I knew you would. I had to see it several times (four to be exact) to get all the jokes because people were laughing so hard in the audience. And I like the pleasant surprise that you think it's just some "guy flick" but it's not. They are all so clueless and endearing that you really like these guys who are just catapulted into a series of unseemingly impossible "mishaps." Some of my favorite scenes: The "morning after scene" The randomness of the chicken "Am I missing a tooth?" Ed Helms character in the back of the police car, "What's going on??" Did you know that Ed Helms' character was REALLY missing a tooth? Evidently he had an implant that needed to be replaced anyway. They had tried different prosthetics but nothing looked right so the director asked him if he could just remove the implant for the filming. That's why it looked so real. Mr. Chow = HYSTERICAL (naked guy jumping out of the trunk). And in real life he's a doctor and is a stand-up comedian/actor on the side. And it was his idea to be naked. He told the director it would be funnier if he was completely naked. I might have to go see it again. There's going to be a sequel. Can't wait. OK - I'll start. So, can we set a timeline for this. Say new movie suggested each Monday. This gives you a time to watch it then dicuss here before the next suggestionl. Or is that to Type A?
...and Lily.... I've seen Night at the Museum. If you seen the first one, well this one is a little overdone.
Kind of reminded of True Lies. I thought that movie was over when "Ahnold" rescued Jamie Leigh Curtis from the out-of-control limo. But no. We had to throw in Harrier jets. So, I thought it was over when the kid was rescued. But no. It wasn't over until they got their next assignment and did the Tango. I did like Bill Paxton in this movie and Tom Arnold.
Watched the Notebook again this weekend. Loved it again!

I had a feeling that was the case. We went to see "Taking of Pelham 123". Hmmm... maybe we'll have to go see "The Hangover" this weekend.

I may be a bit biased, since I am a big Johnny Depp fan! ;-)
