I hate to tell you all that the last time I went to a movie was a double-flick (first time EVER) to see Doubt and The Curious Case.... And before that it was probably Brokeback Mountain. I don't even watch movies on TV, or rent them. How boring am I?
But I'm DEFINITELY up for Julie and Julia!

Other than taking my son and his buddies to Disney movies, etc. the last movie I went to in the theater was True Lies in 1996. How pathetic is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am up for Julie & Julia, it looks great, I've always loved Julia Childs. I'll have to find a girlfriend to go, there is no way I can talk the hubby into that one.

I'm doing a double header Friday. The Proposal & Julie/Julia.
We watched a TCM documentary last night. The Boys from 2 River Park. It's from 2003 but I had never seen it. If you were born from 1949-53 they've got you covered. It's a true microcosm of who we were as kids and then thru the turbulent 60's then maturing into crazy short tracks fans--in their case--make that basketball.
If it plays again--watch it. Grab the Kleenex too. There are many poignant moments.

OK - I think it's your choice of The Proposal or Julie/Julia. Everyone go see one of those 2 this weekend and we'll get back together next week and discuss.
aofreak - Since you came in one reply too late...it'll be your pick next time.
Since I have no life from March to September....I might try to catch them both!

Oh, I really want to see Julie & Julia, too but the website says it doesn't open until August 7. But I'll definitely go see that and chime in. I LOVE Meryl Streep. It looks really good. www.julieandjulia.com/

Just got back from the sneak peek. It was fun. You will want a 2nd helping. Things I didn't know about this movie:
It films in and around NYC, Long Island and I think Queens (yes I stay for the credits) Director Nora Ephron (Sleepless in Seattle); Meryl Streep is always good (However I didn't like her in that movie with Rafe Finnes) Amy Adams--have enjoyed her since she and McDreamy did the Cinderella spoof So back to my double header tomorrow: The Prosposal and The Hangover. I've decided since I enjoy the company here, your ideas on what movies to see are better than trusting the over-critical movie critics.

OK, you guys talked us out of seeing Public Enemy last weekend (that and Susie's pedi/back injury) but she suggested that we see it this weekend anyway. Well, saw it last night and loved it. The only problem I had was adjusting to the "hand held" camera feel of the photography in the beginning. After getting used to the style, I really thought it added to the authenticity of the story. Loved the transition into sepia and the grainy quality of an old film at points. Johnny did an incredible job as usual and I loved the small cracks in the facade of Dillenger that he showed. Well, as my Irish grandmother used to say "To each his own said the old lady as she kissed the cow". Nope, I have no idea what that was supposed to mean but that is what she said!! I've been hearing great things about a movie called "The Hurt Locker". Its set in Iraq and follows a bomb disposal squad. It's on limited release right now and not in my city yet but I'm hoping it's here soon.

Kids and grandkid came in early this weekend, therefore, I never made it to the movies. So I feel way behind now. One of the theatres here is having a "cook off" for Julie/Julia. The winner gets a trip to NYC.

One of the theatres here is having a "cook off" for Julie/Julia. The winner gets a trip to NYC. I think the idea of a "Cook Off" is way cool. I'd have to enter something just to play. OK - back to business. The Proposal. I thought this was a total study in mediocrity. I hope you guys don't think I hate every movie out there. I swear I think there are really good movies around. I just haven't seen them in the past few weeks. Sandra Bullock - BEAUTIFUL as always. As good as the script would allow. Ryan Reynolds - Very pretty. Especially with his shirt off. But what a waste of beefcake. Betty White - Hysterical as usual. She and Raoul are the best parts of the whole movie. Cinematicly, I thought it was a beautiful film. But I thought the plot was about 2 steps above an episode of Sponge Bob Square Pants. No surprises, no twists, very predictable. But once again....this is my opinion only. Don't listen to me. What do I know? What did you guys think?

Hubby and I went to see Funny People tonight. A little dark but that seems to be the world of stand up comedy. Probably not a movie for the masses but if you like Adam Sandler then go see this one. It was a good diversion from a hot summer night. Seth Rogen was the best part of the movie for me.
I'm anxiously waiting for Julie & Julia.
