Think I'll give it a "shot" too--pun intended. I've read mixed reviews in the paper and 2 different opinions from friends of mine. So we'll see.

So it's Johnny Depp this weekend. Cool. I'll be back Monday to add my 2 cents.
Hey gasp - I guess anyone can suggest a movie anytime they want. I was just thinking maybe every 2 or 3 weeks so it wouldn't become a chore. But I guess you don't have to go see every movie. Since Debbie picked Public Enemies this week....why don't you pick the next movie for us. It can be next week or whenever.
See you guys in a few days and have a Happy 4th!

I'm kind of late with my comment but I just found this thread. The Hangover is a hilarious movie. A great way to relax with mindless humor.
I loved: The wedding singer The chicken and the fact that no one mentions it walking around the fabulous suite Mike Tyson playing the piano and singing The future brother-in-law seeming normal by the end of the movie
I want to see it again!

OK - I'll wade in on Public Enemies. I thought there was absolutely nothing...let me repeat...NOTHING remarkable about this movie. I thought it was flat from start to finish. I blame this on the director (Michael Mann).
I've seen Johnny Depp and Christian Bale act their a$$es off. Not so here. Depp has always made me remember his characters. Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, The Libertine. He was brilliant. Always exactly what he needed to be. Not too much and completely real.
The same can be said of Christian Bale. Nobody plays a dark, brooding, on the edge of insanity personality better than him. American Psycho, The Machinist, Batman Begins (which HE was better in than Dark Night).
I thought it was very disjointed, there was no depth to any of the characters and I wasn't even impressed with his relationship with Billie.
The 3 best things I can say about this film are: 1) There was, gratefully, no mention of the size of Dillinger's junk. 2) It was only 2 hours long. 3) The popcorn was fresh.
This is just my opinion. Sorry!
Next!!

Sorry! Next!! I have to agree with Wags. I thought there were too many gunfights and not enough attention paid to character development. I think Johnny Depp did a good job in his role as Dillinger, but the script was definitely lacking something. Maybe it was the Director's fault; too much dead time with all that gun play (no pun intended). Overall, the movie really did fall flat. There was absolutely no substance to the film. Christian Bale appeared to be sleepwalking through his part as Melvin Purvis ...very disappointing portrayal. Unfortunately, I unable to give this film a thumbs up!

Sorry Wags. Slow to respond, which indicates the movie scene in our area. SLOW. I do kiddie movies on my own but none of them appeal to me for now. After a late lunch or early dinner (at The Keg--yummo) my hubby and I did cruise the area theaters. BLECH
I'm waiting on Julie/Julia.
Therefore, we headed to Half Price Bookstore--I bought De-Lovely--with Kevin Kline--one of my faves. Hubby is watching his 'shoot-em-up'. I have no idea the title nor do I recognize any of the cowboys. LOL
While at the bookstore, I looked at Anny Liebowitz's book. Blech again--no Apolo pics. The lady can photograph sports people with a very different eye.
There was a 2nd book on the shelf--Annie's America--but it was time to check out. So next time I'm in there, I'll, check-it-out. Maybe I can find a lovely coffee table sized print of Apolo to view until September.
FYI--there's nothing on TV here worth watching either.
So, until Julie/Julia comes out, the hot, dry spell continues here.

Well, I was supposed to see "Public Enemies" today, but then I went and severely strained my back in the course of the demanding sport called, "getting a pedicure". What is so dangerous about getting a pedicure, you might well ask? It's that roller-massage thingy chair you sit in while the lady is working on your tootsies -- ususally I love it, but I guess it just hit me the wrong way yesterday. On the other hand, I swam 1200 meters one day last week with no ill effects whatsoever (other than thigh muscles that felt pleasantly tight.) Go figure, lol! I am hoping to keep the swimming up once my back starts cooperating again. As for recent movies -- the Hangover was such a hoot! I loved the scene where they pan the hotel room when the guys were first waking up, the chicken, and the photos during the end credits where you get to fill in the blanks about what really happened. I saw "Up" in 3-D. I thought that it was such a sweet, nicely done movie -- definitely worthwhile. I've seen better 3-D effects, though (they were fine, just not top-notch) and the special glasses were not well-designed and were just too big for me. I thought that "The Proposal" was terrific. This is the type of romantic comedy that Sandra Bullock could do in her sleep, and she turns in her ususal competent, charming performance. The best part of this movie is the script, IMO -- it's a high caliber comedy along the lines of "Sleepless in Seattle" and like films. They also go off to a remote location for part of the movie -- won't say where in order not to spoil -- and that part is delightful. But this summer's movies have been a little flat to me -- I do like the big block-busters such as "Star Trek", but there haven't been enough of them. Something like "Transformers" really isn't going to do it for me. Off to search for more Motrin and to contemplate further extremely dangerous activities!

The Proposal comes highly recommended by my niece. Says it's a chick flick and Sandra Bullock does a good job.

Okay, read the posts after suggesting The Proposal. Looks like Susie gives it two thumbs--when she's not massaging the pain in her back.
Get Better!
Does the phrase, "That's Pedi" apply here?
