wow that is awesome! I am so proud of our US team both women and men! It's been some journey to read and follow and see since 2002. I can't wait for 2010!

Thanks sk8on for the vid links. Sure is nice actually watching them skate instead of watching those flashing numbers.

It dawned on me while watching the medal ceremonies that every single skater who made the team at the St. Louis US Championships will come home from the 08-09 World Cup/World Champs/World Teams season with at least one medal. Pretty cool, eh? ...and we can add Aly Dudek into the mix as well! Great job, Team USA!

I think it's funny how most every race/event it's always us, the Canadians, and the Koreans on the podium. How many days until Vancouver?
*sigh* I'm liking Lee even more every time I see him. He's just so kawaii! He and J.R. in a picture is just too potent. LOL

a message from lilyover70...
she apologizes for not being visible this month. she wants you to know that she's still lurking and was checking-in during the world championships and world team events. she thanks everyone for all the posting (results, articles, pics, recaps).
she's been on a crazy road trip following her 'other' fave...david archuleta!!! tonight she'll be in pomona, ca at the glass house...standing room only for 800 people... she and others were almost trampled yesterday in alburquque, nm ...will finish her trip in salt lake city for david's first homecoming performance!
she's gotta tell the rest herself...she's met him up-close and personal!

So, what do we do until September? I guess we could split up into teams and find something to argue about I just watched the awards ceremony. Everyone got their wee medals and gigantic floral arrangements. And that seals it. Season is over. poo

I have an idea. The argument will be very lopsided though. But there's two issues that only the ISU has the answers too, to, and two. Whatever! LOL
#1 The Fricking Video Feeds vs Actual LIVE coverage or DELAYED same day coverage in the US
and
#2 Standardized padding for all venues. If they ain't got it; they don't get it, meaning the event.
We need a research team. LOL

The weekend report from USOC.
SHORT TRACK
For the first time in history, both the U.S. ladies' and men's short track speedskating teams stood on the podium at the ISU World Team Championships in Heerenveen, Netherlands. Both teams earned third place finishes after the A final concluded in Sunday's event.
The ladies battled teams from China, Korea and Canada with China dominating most of the races. Katherine Reutter (Champaign, Ill.) won the 1000m and the team managed to keep it close with their rivals, fighting for second or third place. Besides Reutter, the U.S ladies' team consisted of Kimberly Derrick (Memphis, Tenn.), Jessica Smith (Melvindale, Mich.), Alyson Dudek (Hales Corners, Wis.) and Lana Gehring (Glenview, Ill.).
For the men, each race was hotly contested against teams from Korea, Canada and China with positions changing after every lap. Apolo Ohno (Seattle, Wash.) and J.R. Celski (Federal Way, Wash.) both had important 1000m wins and Ohno put down an impressive victory in the 500m. Ohno, Celski, Travis Jayner (Midland, Mich.) and Jordan Malone (Denton, Texas) made up the men's team.
This event marks the end of international events for the short track speedskating season.
^^^ Once again boo hoo

Wags you're welcome on my team any day! And Gasp, If I had to choose between your two issues, I'd take the padding. I'd gladly sacrifice seeing the race if it meant no more bruised and broken bodies. ... of course in a perfect situation I'd get to see the race too ;D

August, ITA. Helmets, gloves, tips, Kevlar etc. are great. But without break-away crash pads might as well ride around without your seatbelt on. In other news: Katherine blogs her way across Europe at speedskating.teamusa.org/blog/post/618
