Ok, I've been reading but not posting for some reason. But I'm ready to spout off now, but not in a bad way! I read the posts at OZ, here, and Apolo's website, but I was really confused most by the interview Apolo did with USA Today (I think that's the one). The part that confused me most was this: "The older I get, the more I want to remain true to myself," says Ohno, who grew up in Seattle. "I want to make sure I'm with the right companies. ... To become the best to do the things I want to do in this sport takes the help and support of a lot of people." Why would he need the right companies, to do the things he wants to do in this sport unless he's going to compete in the future? Pretty vague huh? I think he may be talking about sponsors, but it doesn't really say that. Then later in the interview he said he's not sure he if he wants to go back to the lifestyle necessary to skate, and that the next four years are very important ones for reasons other than skating. I know I'm being very picky here, and I would bet money that Apolo still doesn't know where his future is heading to right now. I do feel that when Apolo gets home to his dad (he may already be there now) there will be some deep soul searching directed Apolo's way. But I wouldn't be surprised if Apolo put off his decision to skate for a while, maybe even a whole year, so he could finish school, and look more deeply into some of those business ventures he is talking about. He basically said he loves to skate, but everyone puts all this pressure on him to win. I remember seeing an interview where he said no one could put more pressure on him, then himself. He does love to win, that can't be denied. So, where am I going with this you ask? I don't know. I just want to know if anyone else is as confused as I am? Maybe I should take some psychology classes or something, because a lot of these statements seem to contradict each other. Is it because the press really screw up every time they print articles? Or is Apolo changing his tune too? I know, I know...I shouldn't over analyze these things said by Apolo or the press, but they just don't seem to mesh very well to me. Anyone that can help me see the light of day here please do so.

No I think it's quite simple, I mean he wants to get ST to a higher level, and yes he should be with the best companies, or sponsors that will keep him in the limelight, thus keeping ST in the limelight.
He might delay skating for Worlds in a year, and finish school but at the same time, he probably will get back into ST skating, and he may not want to devote himself to the nomadic lifestyle that he had when he was racing. It's not 100% necessary to live like that, but he choose to and maybe that helped him in being the best.
But I think what he is trying to figure out is how to do all of this and still practice his passion, without giving up his life.

Well, he is very young, with a world of opportunitiea at his fingertips.
I think (this is my opinion here, why do i feel the need to get this straight before hand, I have no idea) I think he wants to compete again in the next Olympics, he caught that Oylmpic fever, and I'm sure it is hard to shake. But he then rolls around the idea that it is a very tedious affair, to keep in Olympic tip top form. He may not be too thrilled with the idea or the commitment all over again. But also, short track is all he know's! He may want to check out other things, but might be unsure of himself. And he know's that he has legions of fans out there that would be crushed if he came right out and said he wasn't gonna do it.
I think he's keeping the option open, to keep us fans hopeful, and himself as well, but I honestly think he may very well be contemplating on retiring. Alot can happen in four years. He could get injured, some major disaster could strike us, or there could be the fact that in this time period, an even greater short track athlete could emerge. I for one, if I was in Apolo's skates, would want to finish out on top.

for god's sake he still young.....go for Olympics and then do whatever you want.....if i was Apolo, i wouldn't think twice to compete for 2010 Olympic.....i'm 24 and still energetic and passion for my sport.....plus, i got a famous firm in my belt so why should i be worried about? maybe he needs some inspirations or miracles to help him decide what he wants to do.....i wish i could help him but i don't have that kind of power....

Yeah, personally I think Apolo will race in 2010, that's my own opinion. I think he is just trying to find a way to prepare himself to be the best, without having to be in that nomadic lifestyle that he is so used to.
I think that's what has tired him out, not the love of the game or skating or ST. Just the stress that we as fans don't see.
Once he figures that out, then I think we will see Apolo one more time for the go around. Alot of Figure Skaters go thru the exact same thing. Sasha actually went thru it herself.

Thanks for all the responses, it made me feel a little better. I do agree that Apolo may be unsure how to get to the Olympics in 2010 if he does train differently than the last times.
I remember the NBC commentator during the races saying that he certainly hoped to see more of Apolo in 2010 because he is in his prime for ST. That's what he said anyway.
I guess the waiting and not knowing was weighting me down a bit too much.
By the way Warhorse, I was so sad to see what happened to Barbaro at the Preakness. It brought back memories of Ruffian which was horrifying to see. I heard they were going to do surgery, but do we know anything after that? I'll check the news in a bit and see if they have anything up.

I feel the same way as crims does. i think the reason he doesnt noe what he is going to do is because he wants a life where he can go partying and be in his 20s hes never just been a teenager or an adult hes always been a ST skater and i think he just want so have fun

Apolo is very driven and he does want a plan, but I do think he wants to party too. Cake or eat it?

Yeah i don't think it's because he wants to party persay.
I think he just wants to be like any other athlete that competes and trains but just not to that intensity that he had when he was at the OTC.

I agree, but, he did say in order to be sucessful at ST he had to live that type of lifestyle and devote his life to it. But, I heard that he didn't really start training last time until about 2 years before the Olympics. So I guess we'll see what will happen in the next 2 years.
