David Archuleta. I didn't realize until his "imagine" performance just how talented this kid is--he established himself as the frontrunner of the men's side IMO. Beautiful rendition...and, of course, it is already on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpVuogzmWhgEven more beautiful the second time. Thanks sk8on.

It took everything within my power not to SQUEE on here too much last night. Wasn't he just un-freakin’-believable? Seriously, they need to just hand the kid the crown and forfeit the season. In any season in any country for this show, I can honestly say this is the first time I'm seeing a true superstar born before my eyes. Actually, I think he was always a ‘star’, but now Idol’s going to catapult him into a whole different Universe. It was like watching Anthony Callea (Australian Idol) sing The Prayer and everyone talking about it around the water cooler the next day. It was a defining moment for sure. My only fear for David is that in skimming some other sites, people love him but warn that if the ‘tongue bathing’ and 'pimping out' continues by the judges, they’re going to move their support to someone else. So let me understand this………..the kids got “IT” in spades, but the public might penalize him because his talent is being rightfully recognized?!! Huh? David’s not asking for the fawning. He’s a worthy recipient of it. It would be different if he hadn’t earned the praise, but there’s no denying that this guy is in a whole other realm and the competition is now for second place. He’s too sweet for words. He's everything TPTB want and he'll be groomed, but the best part about it is he doesn’t have a clue just how good he really is. I hope he never loses that humility. Make no mistake, he is what they're calling 'the Chosen One'. I thought it was interesting that he started with the third verse though I think the reason had more to do with some of the lyrics not flying given his Mormon background (“Imagine there’s no Heaven”) than a better message. He was pretty quick on his feet with a perfect reply. Paula’s line about ‘squeezing his head off and dangling it from her review mirror’ left me in stitches. Best line ever. I though the three David’s were the best of the night tonight. I’ve liked David Hernandez all along and was glad he stepped up tonight. David Cook will never be one of my favorites, but I do have to recognize his talent. He was great tonight. Michael Johns, on the other hand, had a bad night. I love Fleetwood Mac, but he didn’t pull off “Go Your Own Way”. I have no fear he’s leaving though. That will probably be Luke and Jason.

It was the best line ever! She almost cried. It was beautiful! And he's unfreakin adorable! I wanna hug, David! And he probably won't forget where he came from which is so sweet! What happened last week? Does anybody remember what he sang?

Despite his performance background, I don't think David is used to being a chick magnet... let's hope he never takes it for granted but is always kind and almost surprised by it, just like Apolo. I loved Randy's comment: "You're doing what you were born to do!" What a gift! Simon's comment about the other contestants being "miserable", while perhaps true, sure didn't promote good sportsmanship. I love how David quickly turned to acknowledge the girls and guys, though I couldn't hear what he said. Many of them are quite talented... David just has it over the top. I wasn't ready to acknowledge him as the front runner until last night. He really hasn't given a weak performance yet. I thought maybe the pressure would get to him sometime, but it seems he's very centered... like someone else we know. I wonder if he's had "mental" coaching on how to handle all this. Sorry, Jennaceeta, I don't remember what he sang last week. Maybe I could find it. And Lexi, with his mormon background, David also couldn't sing "and no religion, too". Actually, that first verse is pretty atheistic, so really no one who believes that God exists and is involved with people could sing it in good conscience, although the message of love and generosity among mankind is certainly worthy. But that's another discussion....

Just checked dialidol.com www.dialidol.com/asp/predictions/Predictions.aspand the only man definitely safe is David A. Though Danny and Luke are at the bottom, they're saying it's too close to call, with less than a five point spread between all nine. David's line was busy nearly 20% of the time. If what you say, Lexi, is true about people not voting for David just because he has so much support, I'm going to have to actually start voting this season! So far, I've just enjoyed without taking any of the responsibility.

I had a very hard time staying in the room throughout the program last night because of the pitch problems. It makes me so uncomfortable. I only stayed to wait for David and it was worth the wait. Another kid from Utah scores huge in the appealing talent department. He has it all. I agree that with him it's a "moment" in musical history's future. I felt that way when I heard Josh Groban stand in for Bocelli with Celine Dion. A gift so amazing it was a priviledge to listen. wow.

I was so excited last night after the show that I wanted to write about previous years winners in comparison but I couldn't put it in the same conversation. I don't remember David A's other songs either but he has been good from the get go. He has never had a pitch issue, he never over sings, he is always composed while singing and then adorable after. As for people not voting for him because of all the hype and praise, well....it really won't matter in the end. He is and will be a huge star, even if he came in 3rd, which he won't. People of all ages love this guy and he deserves it.
I watched a lot of the try outs, which I usually hate, and was genuinely looking forward to this season because of some of the talent. I think some are quite good but none are in the same league.
Are any of you familiar with Paul Potts? He won on the Brit version and I think he actually brought Simon to tears, definitely left him speechless and in awe. If you haven't heard him, just do a youtube search.
This is a very exciting thing to witness.

Even more beautiful the second time. Thanks sk8on. yes it was...and the 3rd and 4th time too Seriously, they need to just hand the kid the crown and forfeit the season. In any season in any country for this show, I can honestly say this is the first time I'm seeing a true superstar born before my eyes. My only fear for David is that in skimming some other sites, people love him but warn that if the ‘tongue bathing’ and 'pimping out' continues by the judges, they’re going to move their support to someone else. i know you love this guy when you are comparing him with your fave idol contestant, anthony callea . ...and like i said earlier, even IF he doesn't win this season (for whatever ridiculous reason), he's going to be sooo commercially successful in any genre of music...and that may even be a blessing in disguise as i've heard the american idol label (is it called '9' entertainment?) is very restrictive with the artists on the creative end.Does anybody remember what he sang? "you better shop around" by the miraclesSimon's comment about the other contestants being "miserable", while perhaps true, sure didn't promote good sportsmanship. how does that comment help david a in any way....all it does is cause animosity within the group and remember the top 10 will tour together in the summer....simon, you are a jerk .I felt that way when I heard Josh Groban stand in for Bocelli with Celine Dion. A gift so amazing it was a priviledge to listen. wow. WOW!...to be included in the same sentence as bocelli and groban...speaks volumes!

WINNER! WINNER! WINNER!
oh yes, and paul potts...what an amazing voice and story! he moved everyone to tears in that audition!

I thought Simon was nicer than normal during the try-outs but he is making up for it. Let's face it, the combination of those three goofy people are great entertainment. The kids going on the show have see it enough to know what they are in for, and for the most part seem to take it well. I think Simon likes a bit of back talk, actually. For the most part, his comments, while seem mean, are intended to jolt the kids into reality - it is is perverted way of giving advice. He has to balance the schmaltzy Paula.
Speaking of previous winners and runner ups. Wasn't Daughtry on the same year with Taylor Hicks and the girl who sang Over the Rainbow? Taylor Hicks should never have won, aside from Daughtry, that was a weak year. Clay Aiken didn't win did he? He became much more successful than the winner, though I have never cared for Clay Aiken. IMO, Daughtry and Carrie Underwood were the stand-outs from Am Idol...until this year.

To you the truth I wasn't amazed, when David sung Imagine. I might just be use to John Lennon singing his song, I don't know. He is a great singer though. That boy has talent. Michael Johns is my favorite. I love his style. When Michael sung bohemian rhapsody by queen, a few weeks ago, I was amazed.

here's david archuleta on arsenio halls' star search at age 12... www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3il4eI20PY you're all welcome

Whew, I've been avoiding this thread, 'cause I just now got caught up after my trip, and didn't want to hear anything 'till I got up to speed. Want my ? No? Too bad... THE GUYS Garrett Haley: Nice kid, but I was worried he'd be this season's Sanjaya. Totally appropriate elimination. Colton Berry: That guy's yellow eyelashes were trippin' me out. I was hoping Kyle (the geek with the tie) or Josiah (the blonde who lives in his car) would beat Colton out for the final slot. I thought they'd resonate with the public more than Colton did (bless his heaaaaaart). Another appropriate elimination. Jacuzzi - oops! Chikezie : I was turned off immediately when he dropped his last name after Hollywood Week. I've always thought of that as pretentious. However, he's growing on me again - seems like a nice guy and definitely had a redeeming performance Tuesday night. Danny Noriega: If I were a teen girl I think he'd be fun to hang out with, 'cause every gal should have a gay guy as a friend. (C'mon, y'all - he HAS to be...) On the other hand, his vocals aren't as strong as I was expecting - but he's decidedly NOT forgettable. (I love to watch people who can do that 'double-snap' with their head...) David Archuleta: Ryan Seacrest says I can't adopt him, so I guess I'll have to settle with hanging him off my rearview mirror. His humble attitude is so charming, but (like Melinda Doolittle), the judges are surely going to start telling him 'stop acting so surprised'. Amazing talent, great kid. David Cook: I like this guy. A Word Nerd isn't a bad thing to be - I like brains in a guy, and I'd hope that America looks at that as a plus. I look forward to seeing more performances from him. About the hair, though - he's in serious need of a session with Yuki. David Hernandez: Who? Where'd he come from? He's impressed me. If he can stay consistent, he could hang around awhile, and if it's true he used to be a stripper, he could have some moves. Jason Castro: Awww. This kid is Adorable, with a capital 'A'. Those blue eyes! I loved, loved, LOVED 'Daydream' last week, but I think it was a mistake to come out again with the guitar. He has great tone, but I worry that his voice isn't strong enough to make it much farther. I SO want to be wrong about that, 'cause there could be room on my rearview mirror for 2. Jason Yeager: Just not 'getting' this guy. Totally and utterly forgettable, and his hair looks like a photo negative of Jay Leno. I give him props for trying, God bless him, but I feel he's leaving this week. Also, does anybody else think his son looked like he was wearing a wig last week? Luke Menard (the carpet cleaner): Me to husband: "How come MY carpet cleaners don't look like that?" Husband to me: "Because we can't afford to have our carpets cleaned on a daily basis." Oh. Anyhow, he sorta reminds me of Ace Young. Dreamy guy - soft, sweet voice - may win over the ladies, but for how long? Michael Johns: "G'day, mate!" Love this guy. I really look forward to seeing his 'colors' in weeks and genres to come... Robbie Carrico: I have a soft spot for the rockers, (Bo Bice, Chris Daughtry ), but I worry that he's not gonna make the top 12. I'd love it if he surprises me. I'll give the girls a go after I see them perform tonight!

It's scary that I'm finding myself agreeing with Simon a lot this season. I think I'm in the minority, but I'm finding him mild this season compared to past ones. He is usually right. The only thing I don't agree with is his constant harping on things aside from the music...things the contestants can't help. He should stick to what he knows. Ryan's comment tonight about fashion advice coming from the man who wears the same thing week in, week out was spot on. Kirkland – I’ve heard Paul Potts and he’s amazing and inspiring. My sister lives in Europe and she says he’s very popular on that side. [/b]: Ryan Seacrest says I can't adopt him, so I guess I'll have to settle with hanging him off my rearview mirror. His humble attitude is so charming, but (like Melinda Doolittle), the judges are surely going to start telling him 'stop acting so surprised'. Amazing talent, great kid.[/quote] But you know what, Lori? I think he is genuinely surprised. I said earlier that I don’t know that he knows he’s as good as he is. He’s had his struggles…especially when he thought he might never sing again. I think his confidence can be shaken. His humility is actually what I like most about him. Looking at other boards, it does scare me that some think he’s a faker. I don’t get that sense from him at all. Some people are uncomfortable with compliments…especially at the expense of others. I think he’s one of them. If he were to accept the compliments without any form of modesty, I can almost guarantee we’d be hearing that he needs to be taken down a notch. Lori, your comments on the contestants was almost spot on with my thinking. David Hernandez, wow! Michael Johns, hubba hubba! Jason Castro, sigh! As for the ladies tonight, this is an hour and a half of my life I’ll never get back. IMO, only one of the ladies might be a serious contender. I don’t know if the guys intimidated them or not, but lots of nervousness tonight….and everyone seems off key and pitchy. Painful. As I said before, why don’t they just stick a fork in Season 7; it’s decided and done. But OMG, is there any question that David Archuleta is the next American Idol? Paula is right, he is headed for super stardom. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE him. I can't say enough, I can't get enough of him. He is adorable in every way. Unbelievable. This is the show's intent. I can't even think about previous years winners and contestants. David Archuleta overshadows everyone. Kirkland, who'da thunk we'd ever be fangirly? Especially over a 17 year old?! I agree with everything you posted above. I just want to keep him in my pocket and pull him out to smile at me when I'm having a bad day. He's puppies, kittens and rainbows all rolled into one.
