Lexi, I'd never heard of Anthony. Great voice. What is his background? Anthony's story is quite an interesting one. He was 2nd runner up on Australian Idol in Season 2 in '04. What's interesting is that he went through each week without being in the bottom 3 and was the very strong favorite to win the show...at least in the public's eye. Two of the three judges were particularly harsh with him throughout the show. They thought he was too 'perfect' and 'plastic-like' and they even alluded to the fact that he should come out of the closet as he wasn't being true to himself or fair to the fans voting! Can you imagine?  They felt the title should go to someone who struggled more and needed the show to get ahead in the industry. And so, like a self fulfilling prophecy, the title did indeed go to a 16 year old girl named Casey Donovan. Anthony's 'loss' was the talk of Australia for days. On top of it all, Anthony had the guts to perform "The Prayer" during one of the theme weeks and people were blown away. It was water cooler talk for days and added to the speculation that he had the title in the bag. To make a long story short, after the show and the usual winners single promotion, Casey was never heard from again whereas Anthony's song "The Prayer" went to #1 on the charts where - going on 4 years now - he still holds the record for the higest selling single ever in Australian history. He's probably one of the most successful Idol alumni in any country. He had been personally invited to Italy to perform for Pavarotti and another time before the Queen. He's now considered one of the more elite singers in Australia with a mega bank account to match. Oh - and he did most of this at the age of 21! Thanks for the info, lexi! He does have an amazing voice. I haven't been into American Idol much at all these past few years. Is there a Canadian Idol also?
It has taken me a while to come around to Avril, too. She was so downright punky (in dress and attitude) before, but has mellowed a bit.

Thanks for the info, lexi! He does have an amazing voice. I haven't been into American Idol much at all these past few years. Is there a Canadian Idol also? There is a Canadian Idol. It's hit or miss though with the talent. Season 2 of the 5 seasons so far was the best with Kalan Porter winning. Some of you Americans might even be familiar with Jacob Hoggard, lead singer of Hedley, who was 3rd runner up that same season. This year's winner Brian Melo is promising. |
