Am I hearing this correctly? Public schools are supposed to be free in this country! We ARE still in America, right? The only things that students are forced to buy are supplies, paper, pencils, etc. along with sports gear or musical instruments. It sounds like your school, little one, is breaking the law. How can they force you to "pay up or starve"? How can they refuse to let you graduate because you didn't want to go hungry which makes you unable to learn. Something is really wrong here. A letter(s) needs to be sent to the state capitol about this abuse of people that are, from what you've said, already poverty stricken. This is such an injustice!! I'm appalled.

Yeah, that does sound messed up for sure...
But going WAY back when someone was complaining about the food offered in their cafeteria lunch program. Yeah, your state must have something a bit "askew", because here in Oregon, my daugthers school has a lot more "healthy choices" in her cafeteria and they even send home the monthly school menu and each day, from the main course of the breakfast and lunches they offer, they break it down into fats, carbs, etc. And she has shown me, from the first day I took her to school there what is offered. I make her lunches MOST days but sometimes, when I am rushed or when the weather is cold and rainy, I let her eat a "hot lunch" in the cafeteria.
The person in charge of your state's educational/nutritional board should be talked to and asked to revise that menu for more healthy foods for the kids to choose from so that so many of them CAN make wise food choices and NOT become obese and or addicted to sugars and "bad carbs."

I think she may have her facts wrong. Or she may be giving the facts wrong.
1. WTF you can't take a sack lunch to school? My a$$. 2. Schools don't generally earn the most of their income from their lunch programs, FFS. They earn it from sporting events, dances, fundrasiers, etc.

as a small school, we do not have good attendance for sporting events, and at dances, only 25% of the population show up. We can't take sack lunches because of funding unless there is a medical condition. once we get off the watch list from the no child left behind act, we will go back to being able to bring sack lunches. Untill then, our school decided that they will use the income from the lunch program to help funding.

It still seems there's some sort of illegal business going on here. Kids going to public schools, along with their parents, shouldn't be forced into something like this. It's just plain immoral.

Go to your doctor, explain the situation and ask him to write a special note that you require special nutrician. All you have to do is present the note and eat the healthy food your doctor prescribed. And because of the doctor/patient confidentual act, you school can't pry into your medical records to find out the truth! And they can't deny you either, or you can sue!

GOOD NEWS! I e-mailed the principal of my school last night, and got a reply! He said that next year we will be able to have sack lunches again because so many parents have been coming to the school board meetings demanding that their kids be able to bring sack lunches! YAY!

I hate it when things are going absolutely great, then all of the sudden a small bad thing brings your entire mood down.
Like I just graduated from college this weekend and everything was Cloud 9, when all of the sudden my ex (who cheated on me) IMs me to congratulate me and take me out for a birthday drink. That's what I get for not blocking people.

Oh, I did tell him no... but it's that lingering nausea that he was able to get in touch with me and push my buttons that bothers me.
(and thanks!)
