I was making cookies again with my son tonight and we came up with some rules together that I had to share. Rule #1 - NO sneezing in the dough Rule #2 - All ingredients stay in the bowl until they're ready to go on the cookie sheet. Rule #3 - Always be cheery. Rule #4 - If you are not cheery, sing a little song. Rule #5 - No pouring tomato soup in the dough. Rule #6 - Always use a sthingy to make all the dry ingredients wet. No other body parts allowed. Rule #7 - Only Mama gets to put 'em in or take em' out of the oven. Rule #8 - Always share "Mama cookies" with your friends, even if they get "benched" for bein' bad.

Bella, Loved the rules. #1 made me LOL. My daughter just finished up two months of dance competitions and shows and we finally have a break for a couple of weeks before summer dance classes start. I can go back to being just Mom and cooking and baking instead of being chauffer, seamstress, and wardrobe lady. Every year something funny goes wrong at the shows. A few years ago they had a character dressed up as Buzz Lightyear fly on a wire across the stage and one night he got stuck upside down. This year during one of my daughters numbers they were using a smoke machine for a special effect and it belched so much smoke on the stage you could only see the dancers bright green pants. We all think the shows are much more fun when something unscripted happens!

Thought I'd share a sweet story.
So tomorrow is my son's 5th birthday and there's this little old lady who is our neighbor, lives all alone, and just adores my son. She doesn't speak a word of English. She speaks Asyrian. I can't understand a word she says, and she doesn't understand a word I say, but she always finds a way to get her point across when she needs to. Tonight, my son and I were on our way to the grocery store and when we saw her just outside her doorway and she came up to us. She held out a $20 bill and, after much Asyrian babble which I didn't understand, she takes her hand and makes a slicing motion across the bill. Change! She needs change, I thought! She pinches her fingers together indicating she wants small bills. So I take her twenty to the store and get her change and bring it back to her and she hands the dollar bill off the top to my son. "Birfffday" she tries to say in her thick accent. She doesn't have much so I told her no, no at first, but she insisted so I let her give him the dollar. My son gave her a big hug and she just beamed she was so happy.
Just thought I'd share...

What a beautiful story! I love how even language barriers can't stop someone from wanting to reach out Happy Birthday to your son, Bella!

Reviving this old thread. Just sung my son to sleep - haven't done that in a long time (he's now almost 6). I could just eat him up, I swear. It will be a very sad day for me when he decides he's to big for a cuddle and a song.

What a nice thread.
I have 3 kids, as some of you know, ages 7, 3, and almost 22 mos. The oldest are boys, and my "baby" is a girl. There is nothing more stressful, to me, than being a stay at home mom and college student. I love my kids- and I feel blessed to be able to be with them when they are little. I do plan on going to work when my little one starts school.
I loved reading all the sweet stories on here. Thanks for sharing them. I will do better at remembering the silly things my kids say- but for now, I will just say that I am looking forward to taking the 3 of them to the playground today. It will be a reward if they are good while we shop for "boring" things like: food, household supplies, new clothes (they are being Baptized 7/14), and school supplies for me.

Yes, this is a nice thread. Thanks Bella for bumping it.
Tynormem, I feel for you being a student and a stay at home mom. What are you studying?
I have 2 girls, 7 and 2 1/2. I'm a stay at home mom and even though it can be very stressful at times, I'd rather do that than work a paying job. I did go back to work after my first baby was one years old and stopped after I had my second child. It was hard to be away from my child most of the day or night but luckily she got along fine with babysitters. I feel very blessed that I can be home with them at this time.
Here in Phoenix summers are very hot! So all we can do outside is swim so thats what we've been doing a lot of. Other things I do to keep them busy is going to the library, visiting people, going to the store or mall(its nice they have those playareas now) or just staying at home and playing games. Its sad that my 7 yr old doesn't have a kids to play with her age at our apts. So we've had to call friends and make plans and drive her to their house. Its kindof a pain but its what I have to do. Does anyone have any other ideas of what to do to keep my kids busy?

Lisa, I have a double major in Sociology and Education. I am technically a Senior, as I also have an Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies, but I still have about 14 classes to go. That should be 3 semesters. Thanks for asking!
I don't have great ideas for you and your kids. I live in Maine, and it doesn't get brutally hot for very many days a year. Instead we deal with the brutal cold for most of the year!

Wow that sounds tough to have a double major! What do you plan on doing with it after you graduate? Do you want to be a teacher? I want to go back to school but it will be a long time before I do that. I have an Associate's degree in Elementary Education but I've decided to change that when I go back to school but I just don't know what yet.
Lucky you having nice weather right now. I would love to visit Maine especially in the fall when all the leaves change color. I've seen pics and it looks so beautiful there!
There must not be very many moms here, just 3 so far that I know. It would be nice to keep this thread active.

We've had other moms in the past and some are still around; MT, Laura, Teri(?), Peggy (Peggy was even a grandmom - she hasn't posted in a while, but she was super sweet and I miss her), Rose (the Mother of all Moms, who is no longer a member), Billey36 (also no longer a member). Other new Moms are (I think) mrs.robinson (got to be a mom, right?) and didn't Elsa say she was also a Mom? We're out there.
Nice reading about you both, Tyn and Lisam. I am a working Mom, the kind that brings home the bacon and fries it up in a pan! I stopped working after my son was born, but I went back to work part time when he was 2 1/2 (nearly potty trained) and full time by the time he was 3. He went into a home daycare which we introduced gradually and it worked out beautifully for all of us. Those first 2 1/2 years were golden - I wouldn't trade them for anything - but I love my work, too. I have a bachelor's degree in music theory and I am now part of the senior management team of thriving non-profit performing arts organization that presents chamber music concerts in historic sites. I also play the flute and perform whenever I can.
Every day is an adventure and it is sometimes overwhelming and exhausting, sometimes exhilarating and fulfilling. Sometimes I feel like I have it all together. Other days I feel like I'm completely missing the mark. But the food is good and the company even better, so for me, that makes the journey worth taking.
I like taking my son to the museum on Saturdays when I'm off, but you stay at home moms can add that to your routine during the week. I live in a fairly metropolitan area, so there are plenty of museums to choose from... Phoenix must have quite a lot to choose from as well. Not sure what might be available in Maine, but chances are there's something at least a car ride away.
Crafts are also a great way to pass the time at home. There are so many things available in craft stores these day - things to suit all ages.
Also, this year my son and I started growing herbs in little pots on the window sill. My son was studying plants in school (yup, I guess they do a plant unit in Kindergarten!) so we made a project out of going to the store and selecting seeds, soil, pots, watering can the whole nine yards, and planting the seeds and watching them sprout and grow. It's been fun for him and it's lovely to have the herbs for cooking.
Oh my goodness I need to stop... I'm beginning to sound like Martha Stewart or something!
Hahahahaha! Good night, ladies.

Your fine luv for bringing that up, thanks for sharing. I've really improved my internet skills in the last year because of joining forums and myspace. And I guess I've become less afraid too. lol My mom is really good at surfing the net too and she's 64 yrs old.
Too bad a lot of the older members(not meaning age, haha) have stopped posting, it would be nice to meet them. Yeah I do remember mrsrobinson and elsa being moms too. I guess with Apolo not on tv anymore, a lot of people have stopped coming here. IDK, just a guess oh and plus summers are usually really busy for people. Anyways....Bella you talked about going to museums and I think thats a great idea, I'll check into that. We've been to the AZ science museum for my daughters school field trip and that was fun.
Bella are you a single mom? Just curious.
