Thanks for the info, lexi. I hope he at least continues to pop up on a few shows ... I forgot to mention earlier, it was awesome that the Design Star finals were filmed in Hawaii. I had no idea they were here. David and Vern, too! Gah! I guess the voting is closed now. You know, I really think the producers want Kim to win. They had her present her room last (usually the "pimp spot"), yet for the voting, she was assigned the letter "A". I really hope she does win; I think she's great. Me too. I want Kim to win. Can't wait to see what happens Sunday.

angelina, I wanted to thank you for your well wishes. I just saw it. Much appreciated luv. sure thing tippytappytoes, glad to hear you're doing well so far. Vern's new show is Deserving Design. It's great. I've loved him since Trading Spaces. Completely changing subjects, another show I find strangely amusing is The Girls Next Door (Hef and his 3 live-in girlfriends). I can only take it in very small doses, but at times it can be riveting in a weird way. I guess part of the "appeal" is watching these 4 people choose to live this crazy lifestyle ... I don't know. Anyway, I did enjoy the episode in which the girls went snowboarding with Shaun White.

What goes on behind those closed doors anyway?

Lexi, it's been a few years, but we used to get the Designer Guys here in the San Diego area (don't know about L.A.) and it was a fav daytime show for me! Are they still on TV in your area?

Lexi, sorry I just saw this and I'm not on the computer at night………. Today is my third day migraine free. I feel so badly for you Tippy. Hopefully you’re into your fourth day migraine free! I wish you got Colorsplash I know you'd like David B. Eric Villency sounds familiar, I'll have to keep my eye open for him. I’m really wishing I got Colorsplash too. My curiosity is peaked. At best, I’ll atleast check it out on the web. Oh there's this other show it was on last night with Vern Yip .... I love Vern Yip. I cried last night watching his show. It was the best makeover and you just had to see it. He helps people that are needy. Wonderful program. He's an HGTV designer. I think the show is called You Deserve It or maybe not but that's what he always says to the people. Gotta go Lexi. Am I crazy or wasn’t Vern one of the original designers on Trading Spaces? If it’s the same one, he was the only designer I ever liked on that show. Mtnme, I’d love your take on Trading Spaces. I can honestly say I wouldn’t let any one of those ‘designers’ near my home. I’m surprised someone hasn’t taken Doug out yet! Lexi, it's been a few years, but we used to get the Designer Guys here in the San Diego area (don't know about L.A.) and it was a fav daytime show for me! Are they still on TV in your area? Wow Lily. I had no idea they'd managed to reach that far away! I'm so glad you enjoyed them. I do too, though they're very high end so it's often hard to relate to them. They've since had two 'spin off' shows: Design Rivals (pitting Steven against Chris) and So Chic (where they got more into the clothing side of 'style'). Squeee! ;D Thanks Lisam! I'm counting the days until the season premiere. We'll definitely need to have a Smallville thread then!

I can honestly say I wouldn’t let any one of those ‘designers’ near my home. I’m surprised someone hasn’t taken Doug out yet! . *************************** RANT ALERT ************************* I CAN'T watch it without winceing! (As a result, I haven't watched it in a few years) The wisecrack I made a page or two back was refering directly to Trading Spaces. The one thing the homeowner was adamant about was that they not touch her Great Grandmothers vintage, mint condition (and therefor worth OBSCENE amounts of money) antique Chippendale Bedroom set. First thing they did when she walked out the door --painted it white. (Chippendale) AAAGGGHHHH! Blasphemers! That would be the equivalent of defacing the Mona Lisa! These people are NOT DESIGNERS, They are DECORATORS, and even that term is being generous. mtnme said:Happyfeet, yes I'm an Interior Designer (call me a decorator and "thems fightin' words!" ) happyfeet said: And I totally get the interior designer/decorator thing! LOL My husband worked for an interior design company during the construction boom in Denver in the early -mid- 90's. I should have known better! LOL Since we've been talking about design shows (really decorating shows) This is as good a place as any to "splain" this. 1) Just so ya know- calling an Interior Designer a decorator, or putting an interior designer in the same category as some of these TV designers ( AAHHH! Trading Spaces) is concidered the pinacle of high insults by those who work in the field. You will probably find yourself corrected-or at least given a dirty look. 2) This is always highly suspect if they are just being called "designers". Well what kind??? Interior designer, graphic designer, fashion designer, mechanical designer??? Just saying "designer" has become a catch-all phrase for: I may have a good eye for color and maybe some style, but I have zippo education or formal training and I wouldn't know my Duncan Phyfe(read: a$$) from a Hepplewhite (read: hole in the ground) Interior designers go beyond "decorating". Most (especially high end designers) are highly specialized in space planning, which means they can gut your house down to rough stud (and sadly- No, that isn't a hot guy who hasn't shaved in a few days)-remove walls, rework your lighting, plumbing and all around layout to give you something totally different. (usually requires some sort of education and/or credientials) For example: BEFORE AFTER: There now! Not only did you find out the difference between designer and decorator, but by my calculations- you got a little education that cost me at least a couple hundred bucks and a few days in class!!!

Interesting post, mtnme. Was that an example of your work? I wondered the same thing. Very impressive. I've never enjoyed the show Trading Spaces and still wonder how its done so well in the ratings for so long. Remember Genevieve and her moss-covered wall? Hildi and her all-black walls? Or Doug and his box car-themed room? Ugh! Terrible! And I won't even go there with the loud and over bearing Ty or the perky, nails-on-a-chalkboard Paige. The only ones who were bearable were Lori and Vern. Of course, Carter provided the eye candy. How did the couple with the Chippendale chair react? I don't recall seeing that episode? Thanks for the lesson, Mtnme. I definitely see the difference now. Oh! My cheque's in the mail!

mtnme ... I read your post about the Trading Spaces show where they painted this couples Chippendale chair white and it was the one piece the said don't touch. THAT'S CRIMINAL... how could they even do that.
I saw this show once where the wife said the only thing I don't want you to change is the fireplace. You guessed it, they changed it and she did not like it and she cried on t.v... she cried and was in shock and awe. It was really ugly too what they did. I felt so sorry for her and I felt like decking the other couple. Have some respect people for what the other family asks you not to change. Oh well, my little rant.

Hey lexi thanks for hoping for me. Today I'm starting my fifth day migraine free. When this whole migraine thing started way over a month ago the longest I went without one was five days so here's to hoping I break that record this weekend and I have a clean slate. My head feels so much better.

I don't recall seeing that episode? www.gotapolo.com/galleries/albums/userpics/10001/lmao.gif[/IMG]
Yup, angelina & lexi, this is one of my projects. As far as Trading Spaces is concerned, I think this show has very little to do with design and everything to do with getting a "rise" out of people! it may make for dramatic TV, but it is completely awful and unprofessional from any other standpoint Lexi & tippytappytoes Actually it wasn't just a chair, it was a whole bedroom set! AND she was VERY upset! (I posted a chair 'cause it was small and just to show the difference in period pieces, which are easy to see in a chair.) TippyTappytoes- I SAW that one with the fireplace-HORRIFYING!. The number one rule for any designer is to LISTEN to your clients wants and needs. A home is most people's biggest investment and asset - it deserves some respect. (as opposed to defacing it- moss on the walls??? are you kidding me??!!!) If you don't take care of your client, at the very least, you will likely not get paid - at its worst- you will end up in court. It amazes me how these clowns just do whatever they please and then hope for the best- while the producers hope for the worst and a homeowner "meltdown" On Ty- Hey Buster!- "Step Away From The Bullhorn..."I stopped watching the show when it became more about Ty & company's antics than actually seeing the house being built. Am I the only one who gets annoyed that the cameraman zips through the house so fast you really don't get to "see" much of it other than quick glimpses of every room? I really like the "I want that" show series. It has all the new, cutting edge design materials that are coming out. (Have you seen the oven that keeps your casserole or whatever refrigerated in it until the programed time-when the oven kicks on and you come home from work to a hot meal!!! too cool!!! I'm a working girl- i NEEEEED this!.) I'll leave you with one more piece of design "eye candy" This is Amy Tans kitchen at Tahoe(writer, Joy luck club, the opposite of fate- she talks about this cabin in this book) This was such a fun project to work on because: a) Amy is definitely not afraid of color! and b) I don't get to do this east coast country look very often. ( She said she wanted the cabin to look like "On Golden Pond" by the time I got done-'nuff said...) And Tippy-I hope you continue to feel better! Here's hoping you break the record-for the rest of your life! sorry for hogin' the thread- I'll be quiet now....
