Warhorse and Ruffian, when I was a little girl, I read a book called "Old Bones" about a race horse. That was his nickname because he was a "sack of bones" and no one ever thought he could actually win races but he won many. Those are all the details I remember. I had forgotten all about that book until reading the two of you talk about horses. I'd love to read this book to my kids. It was a true story. Would either of you know anything about this? I thnk I will check at the library next time I go.

No, warhorse I haven't. Honestly, Dakota Fanning scares the demons out of me. Although, I FREAKING LOVED Seabiscuit ;D. Rose I haven't read that book. (I'm 0 for 2, lol.) I did use to read a series called "thoroughbred" )(or the Thoroughbred Series ?? I can't remember). It was awesome. Every story had a happy (read: totally implausible, lol) ending and I loved them. Edit: I first said "scared the d.i.c.k.ens out of me" and it was replaced in the post with "thingyens"....What the hell? lol

Oh, I remember that post! I thought it was, like "Hitchc.o.c.k. slang," like when people call Madonna "Madge," lol. I felt quite out of the cool loop!
P.S. Why do they call her Madge?

I think it was released by schoolastics books, and it was about a real race horse named Exterminator, and he won the Kentucky Derby that Man O' War was scratched out of! He also went on the win half of his 100 races, and died at the ripe old age of 31! I have the book somewhere, but it's deep in storage, but I think Marguerite Henry wrote the book! Also, have your kids check out other Marguerite Henry books! Misty of Chincoteage SeaStar, Orphan of Chincoteague! Good luck in finding them, but I always found the Library children's section to have these storiesm and they are classics!

Wow, Warhorse! I am so excited to know that you have heard of this and remember the book. Thanks for the names of the other books, too. I will certainly add those to my library list. We will be going on Monday. I read a lot to my kids about an hour a day and I think they would love a horse book.

My pleasure Rose1966! I am a serious horse enthusiast and love to read and know everything about them! It's also why I got into the Lord of the Rings, I wanted to see how they did Shadowfax!
I wonder if Apolo has ever ridden a horse?

Thanks for sharing your "love of horses" information with me, Warhorse.
As far as Apolo riding a horse, that seems like the kind of thing he would enjoy. I wonder if he has?

Living in Colorado, it's a good state to get exposed to horses, some of the best farms in the country are right there, and horseback riding is so good for your leg muscles!
