Alright, this is my first attempt ever at a fanfic. I hope it is ok. Let me know what you think!
Kaci Iris sat reading the latest Katie MacAlister book “Blow Me Down” and listening to Brian McKnight on her video iPod. Her shiny golden brown hair coming out of her messy ponytail flopped onto her naturally tan skin. Business was slow as usual in Barnes and Nobel, but the book provided an escape from the dull weekday afternoon. The main characters were just speaking in low, sultry voices ready to get it on, when the phone rang. Startled, Kaci jumped about three feet in the air. She quickly picked it up and said, “Hello. Barnes and Noble! Kaci speaking, how may I help you?” From the other end came a scratchy noise. Kaci was confused, but then she realized it was a person talking.
“Er… hello? I want to order a sausage and anchovy pizza please. “
“I’m sorry sir, but we don’t sell pizza here, we are a book store.”
“Please deliver it to 1722 East Silver Rim Ave. How much will that be?”
Kaci was so wrapped up trying to explain to the old man that Barnes and Nobel is not a pizza shop that she did not notice the man wearing jeans and fitted t-shirt standing at the counter waiting to be rung up.
“Sir,” she pleaded, “Please understand, we sell books. No we don’t have soda either. I am so sorry. Listen please…”
“Ahem,” the figure coughed.
Kaci looked up and found a sunglasses clad guy staring at her laughing. His dark brown hair flowed over a light blue bandana like a tropical waterfall. The guy smiled and stroked his chin. It was then Kaci noticed he had a soul patch. For some reason, facial hair seemed to turn her on. After a few moments of staring, she realized there was a noise coming from the other end of the telephone still held tightly to her ear.
“Hello! Hello… pizza? Pizza? That’s it! I’m hanging up. This is the worst service I have ever had!” Then the phone clicked.
Kaci slowly set down the phone and caught herself with the start of a saliva trickle from the corner of her mouth. She swept her hand across her mouth, but didn’t realize how fast it flew off to one side. It hit the stack of books that were to be returned, toppling them to the floor.
“Oh crud!” Kaci shrieked diving to catch them. Her stool overturned and she lay sprawled on the ground with it on top of her. “Ow!”
The stranger hopped over the counter and lifted the stool off her. He offered his hand, asking, “Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I think I’m ok. Just a little bruised. You know my family calls me Grace because I am so accident-prone. It’s quite funny actually, because well when I was ten…” Kaci caught herself rambling and came to an abrupt stop, “Um, well how can I help you?”
The stranger walked around to the front of the counter and put down a book in his hands. “Yes, I would like to purchase this book, if it is not too much to ask.” He snickered and smirked at Kaci. “Just don’t hurt yourself, I don’t know if I can take any more of hopping over counters.”
Kaci shrugged it off and scanned the book. Then she looked at the title of the book, “The Notebook”. She looked up and couldn’t help but laugh. It is not everyday you find a very attractive guy buying a chick book.
The guy grinned and said, “What? I want this book. I saw the movie and it made me cry. You got a problem with that?”
“No, not at all,” Kaci replied hoping she did not offend the hottie. “It’s just not often you find a sensitive guy who reads stuff like this.”
“Actually, I don’t really want to read it,” the man said opening the cover of the book, “ I just wanted an excuse to talk to you.”
Kaci looked at the post-it note stuck to the inside cover. It had a phone number and a smiley face. Kaci immediately turned a bright shade of pink. “Um… well er.. thanks. Um…”
“No need to say anything. Just three questions. Then you don’t have to think too hard.”
“Oh, um… ok.”
“One, what is your name? Two, where can I pick you up? Three, when can I pick you up?’
Kaci finally looked up from the number and smiled an ear-to-ear grin. She had never gone on a date with such a hot guy. Quickly she rattled off, “My name is Kaci Iris. Get me from here. You can pick me up tomorrow night at eight because that is when my shift ends.” Realizing how quickly she said that she rapidly turned away again.
“Alright, Kaci. I’ll see you then. Now can I please have my book?”
Kaci handed over the book after pulling out the post-it. When she looked up again to say goodbye, the guy was halfway out the door.
“How strange,” she thought, “but my good golly gosh. He was very good looking!” Then it dawned on her, she hadn’t gotten his name!
Soooo...what do you lot think???
