Several times I have heard that Shani Davis is Apolo's best friend. But that is about all I know. Did they meet at Lake Placid? How long have they been friends? Are there any pictures of them together? I wonder what Apolo thought about the controversy between Shani and the other skater (can't think of his name right now) during the Olympics.
Anyway, as you can see, I am very curious about Apolo and Shani's friendship and wondered if any of you could tell me anything about it.

i believe they met in colorado...apolo has always strongly supported shani and his mom..even though she has a bad reputation..

Thanks so much Bella! Unfortunately, I can't see videos on my old computer. They make it freeze up. But I am going to forward the link to my Mom's and next time I am over there I will check it out. I can't wait to see it! I didn't realize Shani's Mom had a bad reputation. That is too bad.  I am glad Apolo is supportive. |

Shani's mom has a bad rep for being mean and pushy and etc...but shani has been put thru alot in terms of gettting to where he is, with the exception of Apolo, Yuki, and the skating rink he skates at, Shani and his mom has had a hard time getting endorsements, etc...
Apolo is very supportive of Shani, and VERY protective of him too...like how they said Shani dropped out the relay race, he wasn't even on the relay team!

;DThe vedeo of apolo talking about b ball is great it makes me laugh a lot, but him and shani are realy close and i think its cause both of them were raised by single parents and arnt white, they just have a lot in common. it actualy seems like shani sees apolo aas closer friend than apolo sees shani, if that made any sense what so ever, its just from the apolo talks about him alot, maybe its just because apolo trys to keep his personal life kinda quite

Shani used to be a short track skater too before he jumped to "long track" speed skating. They apparently met at the Olympic training center in Colorado. Did any of you hear after he won his Gold at the Olympics, he went and hugged his team and the announcer said "He's asking where's Shani" and you could tell that he did mouth those words. And then later, during an Olympic Moments wrap up, they showed Shani go to see Apolo while he was warming up for the relay, after his gold and they screamed and hugged and Apolo said, "The perfect race man..." It was really a cool moment I have to say. I almost got teary. snif snif  With all that initial bad press around Shani (which I have come to understand was not very fair), I didn't have a good image of Shani, but now finding out that he is one of Apolo's best friends, he can't be all that bad! |

I love Apolo's and Shani's friendship! It's so sweet...kind of like a couple of big kids! I loved how Apolo asked for Shani after he won his Gold medal. It was great that he wanted to share his big moment with his best friend.

Its so cute how apolo and shani are friends. And when apolo hugged shani at the olympics in Torino, (after apolo wining the gold) i was thinking, awwwww

I think Apolo and Shani met when they were training in Lake Placid...AAO said that they kinda turn to each other , 'cuz they didn't have anything in common with the rest of the teammates. And yeah, i agree, Shani did get a "bad image" 'cuz of that whole "feud" with Chad....the media just made it seem like a huge deal. And a lil' update, Shani won a couple races in the worlds ('06) and Chad didn't. Sooo..

Wow! Thanks for the great resonse. I learned so much about their friendship. I loved hearing about the moment when they hugged after the goldl medal race.
