OK, I am a bigger dope than I thought. "I hope to see you in St Louis. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make Nationals. Too much going on that weekend." I thought St Louis WAS Nationals. I realized we have a family wedding the weekend of SLC so that is out. I will make ressies and plan on going and we may find out if Apolo will be there or not later on.

Another nice thing about Nationals is that you can purchase VIP tickets, if you want. If you're flying in from out-of-town I think the difference in price is well worth it. You get your own seating section (sometimes better than the regular seats, sometimes pretty much the same, but a guaranteed decent seat regardless) catered food, hot coffee and other drinks, and sometimes a souvenir goodie or two. I also think that you get to see Apolo skate somewhat more, because it's not like anyone is going to knock him out of the finals. There's nothing quite like seeing him skate in a WC, though. I stilll remember the relay "B" final in SLC. Apolo was skating it like he was going for the gold -- all heart. *girlish sigh*

Wow. I am so excited. I wish I was bringing someone else who is excited. I will be checking in to see when the hotel is avail and also ticket info. To see him skate. I saw him dance, flew to Hershey PA for that last summer. Yes, I loved him dancing too. Though he brought me to DWTS, not the other way around. I have been watching him in the Olympics since 2002, though that's all I see since I am in New Orleans...not exactly a ST hot spot. I complain about my expensive kids all the time, but they let me earn Southwest Visa miles, which is how I get to travel. This is so cool!!!

I meant to say I wasn't sure I could make the Am Cup I in MN. Sorry for the confusion.

does anyone know if VIP tickets will be sold in SLC WC?and how much are they? We wish they would sell them, Aofreak. World Cups come under the jurisdiction of the ISU, and it's a no go with them. When USS has jurisdiction, as they do for Nationals, AmCups, etc., then the organizers are free to offer the VIP's. I would expect that VIP tickets will be available in St. Louis. They will probably go for somewhere between $40 and $50 per day per person. Regular tickets might be $10 or $15 per day per person. (Please understand that these are just estimates, based on the last two Nationals.) The regular tickets are fine, too. My thinking is that if you're flying in, paying for a hotel, etc., then the price differential for the tickets is not that big a deal. For the Cleveland Nationals, I bought the regular tickets first, and when the VIP's became available, the organizers gladly exchanged them.

Regarding Vancouver/WC 2, I'd already posted some of the following info much earlier.
If you are flying into Vancouver, or Amtrak train, (as Sam and I are doing) it isn't absolutely necessary to rent an auto. Of course, you'll need one if you're venturing out of the city.
The public transportation system in the city is quite good. There is the bus system, the Sky Train and the Sea Bus. An all-day pass is accepted on all and is quite reasonable, considering parking fees downtown. Downtown is not the easiest place to find parking (can be very congested) for sight-seeing purposes. There are plenty of hotels; we have left our vehicle parked at our hotel and take public transportation (or walk) as much as possible. If you want to go to North Vancouver, the Sea Bus is right there by the cruise ship terminal and it takes you across to the 'Public Market' and the ride over is breath-taking! We've taken the Sky Train to its southeast terminus, just to see the suburbs and ride across the Fraser River.
It's already July... October will be here in no time so it's not too early to make your plans... but I don't know where the 'host' hotel is!

The acoustics were horrible, and it was hard to hear what they were saying. Since all the coaches and media are there in the VIP section, you're that much further away from the ice. The regular seats we had on the other side however, we were so close to the ice, you could see if the skaters had something stuck in their teeth! LOL ( They didn't, but you get the idea....) Which reminds me, gotta jump on something else we've been kicking around on this idea.....

Right on Mtnme... our seats were fantastic. right on the start line and LOTS of close ups. The coolest thing about the time we had in the VIP section was the close proximity to Apolo visiting Yuki, John and Dave and watching the coaches interact. It was great to watch so much racing from both positions but all the seats are great and the racing is electric. Can't wait.

Any St Louis news yet? I tried to go to the USS site for updates on the doubletree but could not figure it out. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I'm new here. After reading all your post, I'm planning to go to the SLC world cup for the first time ever. I plan to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. I need to ask you guys if I should fly in from LAX on Oct 16 p.m. or a.m. on Oct 17? I need to fly back on Sunday, what time is it over? I have no idea where and when and how to get tickets, are they ever sold out? Are the seats assigned? How do I connect with you guys over there? Will I need to rent a car to get to the Oval?

Hi stfan and welcome. Glad we've got another victim fan! Look forward to meeting you in SLC. 1) I like to fly in the night before. Sometimes we get together for a little "get acquainted" dinner. It just depends on flight fares and work schedules. 2) It's usually over around 6ish on Sunday. But you then have the awards ceremony. Don't know if you want to stick around for that or not. (I fly back on Monday) 3) Tickets are usually sold ahead of time and if you stay in touch here, we'll let you know when and how. Someone will post the info closer to time. And yes, they do sometimes sell out. Also, I've never seen assigned seats. 4) We usually carpool to the oval. If you're staying at the HGI I'm sure we can squeeze you in somewhere. Whew! I think that covers everything. I'm just giving you what little info I've observed in my very limited experience. Someone out there who's a bit more of a veteran might be able to expand on or correct my post.

Hi, Stfan! - I saw that you had joined GA, and I hoped that your name meant that you were a 'kindred spirit'! Wags was right on the money with her answers to all of your questions. The HGI has a shuttle to/from the airport, so don't worry - if you can get to the hotel, we'll figure out how to get you to the Oval! Do plan to come in the night before, if you can - we'll surely all get together for dinner. If you have to fly out on Sunday, I'd advise making it as late as possible. Dopeyrn, I haven't heard anything firm yet on the Doubletree in St. Louis - I'm sure that it IS the host hotel and they expect to get a contract for an $89 per night rate that will apply to spectators as well as the skaters. I hope to see/hear something soon, but if anyone gets info before I do, please post it asap. Prepare to become addicted!
