I've been doing some checking, and there are a number of restaurants near the HGI in SLC. What type of food is everyone into? I myself like to explore the unique offerings in the area as opposed to the chains you can find in any city. That being said, our eating habits in the past were whatever was near the oval before we made a kill! Maybe we should do a little planning for meals this time! (tip: bring a big bag - or two- of Trader Joe's trail mixes, preferably with chocolate. It's the only thing that got us through a few times! LOL) Here's a link to a list near the hotel. (maybe we should ask Anthony what's good!) www.hiltongardeninn.com/en/gi/hotels/thingstodo/results.jhtml;jsessionid=COB22EMI4BK3MCSGBJC3EWQ?ctyhocn=SLCDWGI&_requestid=230879

Canada is having lots of visitors of the short-track type:

Chinese short-track team in Kamloops Percy Hébert PhotosSui Baocu leads his teammates through a turn during a practice session at MacArthur Island. Members of the Chinese short-track speed skating team fly by under the watchful eye of coach Li Yan.Percy Hébert - Photo Editor From the Sep 03 print edition Updated: Today at 08:07 PM The arena at McArthur Island Park was quiet except for the familiar sound that skate blades make with every stride. In the stands, a handful of spectators watched as coach Lin Yee put the Chinese short-track speed-skating team through its paces.
“The training facilities we use in Beijing were used for volleyball during the Olympics,” explained Shang Lixin, team doctor.
In search of training facilities, delegates from the Chinese speed-skating team visited Kamloops in March, at the suggestion of the Canadian Speed Skating Association. Delegates were sufficiently impressed with the facilities and the welcome they received from the Kamloops delegation headed by Mayor Terry Lake.
The team of 10 men and 10 women has been training in Kamloops since mid-July in preparation for the upcoming World Cup Championships held in Vancouver Oct. 24 to 26.
The team practices daily at the McArthur Island Sports Centre in the morning and the Tournament Capital Centre in the afternoon, with the exception of Thursdays and Sundays. Although rest is a priority on days off, skaters have also taken in local sights including a trip to Sun Peaks and some fishing, Lixin said.
Unfortunately, the start of the fall semester has the skaters on the move again as they are forced to vacate the TRU residences for a local hotel.
The team will be in Kamloops until Sept. 13

Hey all. Got back yesterday from Memphis,TN as this is where we went to escape Hurricane Gustav. I have already booked rooms in Beaumont TX just in case Ike comes after us.
Happily, our home is fine and I am sitting here with electricity. This is something many south of us cannot say.
Sadly, this has further tapped out my finances. I have indeed lost St. Louis. I will be anxiously looking for reports on ST and hope you post many pictures. I think ya'll will be the closest I get to Apolo.

I'm sorry to hear that. If I do make it, and I hope I do, I shall take pictures. If they turn out, great, if not, then poo, I tried. I am happy to hear that your home is fine, and have electricity (oddly enough mine went out the other night at 3 am, stupid weather) I'll keep you in my thoughts, along with the rest of the South. Keep us updated on how things are if you can, so we won't worry too much about you.

For those of you going to Vancouver, here is the link to the event site. No info on tickets yet, or host hotels, so you'll have to keep checking the link for updated info. www.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4844-191888-209111-nav-list,00.html The Pacific Coliseum- and most of Vancouver looks to be very easily navigable. The Arena is on Hastings St. - a 'main drag' that leads to Stanley Park and not too far from downtown. According to the guidebooks and websites, there is plenty of public transport to get you to and from if you don't want to drive. (t'would that the SLC Oval could boast the same...)

Yes, definitely, there is plenty of public transport in Vancouver: buses, SkyTrain, and Sea Bus/boat. Sam and I have not rented a car in Vancouver the last 4 or 5 times there. We drove there with our SUV the first time in town, but left it parked at our hotel b/c it is difficult to find a parking place downtown. We don't plan to rent a car in October... unless we decide to go to Whistler.

Hi All; I think I mentioned it before, but if not, I've been told that tickets will go on sale around Sept 16-18 and will be available at: www.ticketmaster.ca because they hold the license for activities at the Pacific Coliseum. so far, they are not listed on the sports schedule there. Musical Mom
