I'm watching the live results on ISU, but I have to admit it is much too confusing for me. I guess I need to look at a schedule to understand what is going on.

I did find an article stating why Apolo was DQed on the Canadian website. Canadian athletes didn’t have much more trouble qualifying for the 1500m. Charles Hamelin (Ste-Julie, QC) was the first on the ice, and it was a tight race with American Apolo Anton Ohno. Ohno finished first, but he was disqualified for impeding. Marc-André Monette (Pointe-aux-Trembles, QC) did a great outside pass with one and a half lap to go, and to win his heat. Steve Robillard (Montréal, QC) followed his teammates, taking the lead in the fourth lap and staying in the front until the end. The full artitcle is at: www.speedskating.ca/index.cfm?id=1537I was happy to learn that Allison B. is also competing...hopefully that means her heart problem is still in check. Thank you for sharing that, Guest. To our 2nd (?) guest, I see the results at the ISU site, but not the real time, lap-by-lap results. A poster at OZ remarked that the ISU doesn't always have the live results. ETA: Before the season began, I had considered going to this World Cup. But I was surprised to find that the airfare to Quebec City from Baltimore is actually considerably higher than it is to SLC. I'd still like to make it up to Canada to see a meet one of these days, though.

I thought I read in the paper yesterday that Apolo won? I am confused.

I think you need to sign up with wcsn.com to view the live feed from Quebec: "View Video Highlights" www.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4844-128613-129921-nav-list,00.html Here's the wscn.com website to sign up ($4.95/month): web.wcsn.com/products/index.jspI couldn't get it to work even after talking to customer service, but maybe someone else will have better luck...

Ah, got it. Thanks, Skaterswaltz. Let us know if you have any luck with it.
ETA: I just noticed that WCSN.com has the date of the webcast as being February 7th. Do you think they're confusing this WC with next week's WC? I just checked the USS website, and there are no other events (i.e. long track) going on in Quebec City around this time frame.

Ahh, got it. Thanks, Skaterswaltz. Let us know if you have any luck with it. Unfortunately I can't get it to work and customer service can't help me out. Maybe it's something with my firewall or something...

I really have mixed feelings about Apolo's appearance in Quebec. I had plans all set to go and then I read here that the consensus seemed to be that he wouldn't be competing there. We are usually right, so I scrapped the trip. Yesterday, I found out he went... and I am so disappointed. Rarely does he come even remotely close to me, so it was an opportunity wasted. On the other hand, I think that DQ in the 1500M and the DQ at Nationals proves that he needs ice time with other countries. It's one thing to compete against your friends on a National level, but its something completely different to compete against S. Korea and Canada at a World Cup. I am beginning to wonder if he has lost a bit of his focus and needs these DQ's to provide a little shock value to his perspective. I was terribly disappointed that he chose not to participate in the first half of the season and it is catching up to him. These guys, both American and non-American athletes are not sitting on the sidelines waiting for him to tell them their next move. They are excelling and starting to pass him up and he needs to get his head in the game. He can be in the gym and do dryland exercises up the wazoo, but if his head isn't in the game, he's toast. He used to be one of the most dedicated and focused athletes in the U.S., but I now worry for him. With all that said, I have learned to have faith when it comes to Apolo. He always pulls through and shows his resiliency time and time again. I guess the moral of the story, kids, is to allow yourself to be concerned, but never doubt him.... oh, and to go to Quebec ANYWAYS!!! You just never know!

Oh my gosh I feel so behind. I didn't know Apolo was skating this weekend. All I know is that he got DQ'd in the 1500m right?

Peter Doucet of Speed Skate World has started to put up some photos of today's World Cup action. There's a nice one of Apolo in the relay semi. Peter promises that he will have videos forthcoming as well. www.speedskateworld.com/2008/02/quebec-isu-samsung-world-cup-short.htmlPeter mentions that the skaters are staying at the Delta Hotel in "old" Quebec City. It has a heated outdoor pool...sounds just right for all those sore muscles.
