I posted this on the SLC thread, but just in case anybody missed it:
-------------------------------------------
Dear US Speedskating members:
NBC Universal will broadcast the Essent ISU World Cup Short Track event, being held in Salt Lake City at the Utah Olympic Oval February 8-10, on a tape delay basis. The event will be made into two broadcast shows.
The first television air date is February 20 at 8:00pm for the first show and 10:00pm for the second show.
There will be a repeat of the first show on February 21 at 2:30 pm.
There will also be an airing on February 24 at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
All times are EST. ------------------------------------------------------
I think NBC Universal is the same station that broadcast the Long Track World Cup in December. If so, it was VERY well done... ;D

Jessica Stam may have the ice-eyes, but we hear Doutzen Kroes is the model who's getting the literal cold shoulder from Vogue this week: She's been shooting at an ice rink with speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno and Annie Leibowitz - apparently, they've even made the Dutch model her own pair of speed skates! No word on what else the Victoria's Secret face will be wearing, though Nike and Adidas are big advertisers in the magazine, so of course those are possibilities. Then again, Vera Wang is both a former figure skater and a former Vogue editor, and often made ice costumes for Olympic champion Michelle Kwan... And if they really want to surprise everyone, Richie Rich was also once a professional Ice Capader, and sometimes creates his own spandex creations for skating exhibitions. We're not betting on that last possibility, but whatever - a little glitter never killed anyone. Source: fashionista.com/2008/01/doutzen_on_ice.php

Apolostarr, thank you for this info - we should all start watching Vogue Magazine!
I'll remind y'all that Annie Leibowitz was the photographer for Apolo's Project(Red) shoot... (Ally, are you reading this???)
ooooooooh, I think this is my 600th post - clear indication that I need to sign off for the night...

ooooooooh, I think this is my 600th post - clear indication that I need to sign off for the night... No, stay on! JK! I also like your quotes as well! That quote with the "Middle of Nowhere" reminds of my favorite band "Hanson" cause they made their first album called "Middle of Nowhere" ten years ago. They just had their 10th anniversary last year! Just thought I would write that...........ok.....carry on...

Flippin' agony there is no live feed! I Think we can safely ascertain that whoever gave us info that Apolo would not be competing in Quebec was full of it And Apolo's website was actually accurate as to the events he intended to compete at, despite our thoughts that it was just a posting of the short track schedule in general. How sad for those who are closer to Quebec than SLC and might have made that little extra effort to go.

That's too bad for those that wanted to go and didn't know if Apolo would/wouldn't be there 100%. I wonder what the DQ was for?! Nuts.

I'm hoping someone posts the races on YouTube at least. If anyone even lives near Quebec City, they should try to still go... Too bad they don't post the sign-up sheet like SLC does. At least you get to see if he'll be there, even if it's at the last minute.

I did find an article stating why Apolo was DQed on the Canadian website. Canadian athletes didn’t have much more trouble qualifying for the 1500m. Charles Hamelin (Ste-Julie, QC) was the first on the ice, and it was a tight race with American Apolo Anton Ohno. Ohno finished first, but he was disqualified for impeding. Marc-André Monette (Pointe-aux-Trembles, QC) did a great outside pass with one and a half lap to go, and to win his heat. Steve Robillard (Montréal, QC) followed his teammates, taking the lead in the fourth lap and staying in the front until the end. The full artitcle is at: www.speedskating.ca/index.cfm?id=1537I was happy to learn that Allison B. is also competing...hopefully that means her heart problem is still in check.

Dang those impeding DQ's!!! That's too bad but what can you do, right?! I'm sure he (and they all) skated their bums off and it just wasn't meant to be that day! It's all good. Thanks for all the links and feeds, everyone! I'll have to try to check them out! I saw Allison Baver placed well in one of the heats (not sure which one)...she is starting to really grow on me-she seems to have such a good attitude and work ethic even though she deals with heart trouble...anyone heard anymore about that?! PS-So I was watching the news last night and they had a commercial regarding the World Cup 6 in SLC!!! Never seen that before...so I was happy! It was pretty short and just had the pic from the newspaper (or wherever) but still I was happy that they were giving it *some* coverage! Hope that's a good sign!!
