Indeed my "Scottie", AM CAN CH Brogan Canadien, was filmed in Brooklyn well before the show in a huge sound stage with a crew of about 20 people, including a British director. The shoot took all day because they were doing lots of different things with different breeds. The creative process took forever. Scottie had his own dressing room with his name on the door. I am not kidding. An animal agent got him this gig and I got the money. . . and yes he has head shots. All he cared about were the treats for doing what he was asked to do. Such a deal. I am hoping he will be cast on the next So You Want to Be A Supermodel. Wow Mari...your dog is famous!!! (and so are you!) That's so neat! That's hilarious he had his own dressing room, but cute nonetheless. Send me an autographed headshot! Was that "Scottie's" first shoot or has he done things before this? I think he's poised to be the next SYWBAS, btw!!!

Wow Mari, I didn't fully appreciate I was rooming with a celebrity- or is that a celebrity's 'mom'. So give me the insider scoop! Is he secretly 'seeing' Julianne?.....or is he just 'playing the field?... snicker, snicker, giggle, grin.....

The biggest problem I've had in showing Scottie is that he definetly plays the field. He is ALL about the girls. He has no preference... blonds, redheads, brunettes... and they don't even need to be interested in him. In his defense, in his role as a stud dog, he's only doing his job...but he takes it very seriously. If any of you do want to see his head shot I'm happy to email it to you. And now back to Apolo........ wonder if he wants a dog?

Thanks sk8on. Great Pics as always from Jerry. That could take the better part of a day to go through. I may not bother to take pictures at these events ever again, 'cause they just don't compare.

Oh don't say that, mntme. The nicest thing I can think to say about Jerry's photos is that they're all in focus. Essentially they're boring and repetitive and 9 times out of 10 nobody is even in them. All of you took waaaay more interesting, cool photos. I think it's because you guys focused on one or two things (Apolo and Canadians, god bless your hearts) and really loved what you were shooting. Jerry was willy nilly shooting and I ended up taking about as much interest in his photos as he seemed to take in his subjects, if you know what I mean. Did he even watch the awards ceremony? Lori was shooting until AFTER it!
No, Jerry may have a faster lens but you guys are superior photo journalists in this milieu.

(too us anyway- Jerry, well that's another matter! LOL) But I think we fare batter when they're not moving, or we need better cameras. But I get what you're saying. You can only see so many photos of the pack skating around the corners in full tilt, before they start getting repetitive and boring. It's getting that photo at the right place at the right time that shows the fleeting glimpses of raw emotion. Wildfires photo of Apolo in full determined teeth grit really captured the moment. In retrospect I wish I had taken a video of that, because it was truly amazing and impossible to describe to someone who wasn't there. I will also be more aware next time of missed photo opportunities with those handsome Canooks. They were walking around freely everywhere, (as opposed to the US skaters, who were pretty sequestered) I guess they assumed us Yanks weren't interested in them. (They guessed wrong...)

Here are some photos for you, Ruff: these are from a French-Canadian web album. I see that the photographer got the shot of the Canadian team sitting in the stands that I was trying so hard to get. There's also a nice shot of the U.S. team's go-to equipment guy, Larry Daignault, and some very good photos of Charles Hamlin up on the medal stand. picasaweb.google.com/patinagevitesse/CoupeMonde6_SaltLakeCity200802

It's fun to see another country's photo perspective on the event. And what can we say about more pictures of 'Handsome Charles', but Oooh-la-la.

I have to admit my first reaction was, "What?!! You don't have fifty bazillion shots of Apolo?" But it is nice to see another country's POV. This web album made me wish that I had taken more shots of Charles, myself. And yeah, the Canadian guys were everywhere. I'll get more candids next time as well, especially if I can tease that cute smile out of him!

Junko just posted some SLC pics on OZ - a couple of good ones of Apolo on the podium, and a couple of Junko with the Canadians (including a gorgeous one of JF Monette).
Turns out he did get a concussion on Day 1. Glad he was able to come back on Sunday!

Mtnme, my thoughts exactly. The lean shots and standard mid-race shots are great but they're overdone and...mechanic? I don't know the right word, but they're very impersonal and...Jesus, what is the word? Anyway, they need to be rethought. I think y'alls shots of the faces and reactions and emotions trump anything in his gallery, blur or not.
I think with most sports shots (or I guess any 'people' pictures) that unless something amazing is happening with the action the focus should be on the face. In other words photograph the person first and the action second, and Jerry's photos are all action and no person. You guys, all of you, no matter the quality of the camera, managed both, I think, because you like the person you're taking the photo of more than what he's doing. Makes all the difference.
Christ, just let me ramble why doncha?!

I'm glad to see they're taking candids for their albums instead of just pulling news photos. Dammit if they aren't stepping up their game. "Tease that cute smile out of him" is a great expression, btw.
