Here you go, Bella. This is Picasso's masterwork, "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907). Many consider it to be the first truly modern painting. Picasso was influenced by African masks when he painted the two faces at the right -- this was unheard of at the time. The painting is part of the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NYC. You *do* see the similarities with Annie's photo, don't you? Yes. I have seen this work before, I just couldn't recall it when you first mentioned it. Picasso was so ground breaking in so many ways. We've seen his paintings and drawings so much that it barely phases us nowadays, but this is an extrodinary work to have done in 1907!! He would have found an amazing subject in Apolo, although he did seem to prefer women as subjects (naturally).

Thanks for the deletion, Bella. I thought I had stopped my first post from going 'cause I wanted to fix a typo, but I guess I wasn't fast enough.
I'm certainly not an art expert but I've never been a fan of Picasso or abstract art in general. I'm not judging talent--I can barely paint a wall--it's just a personal preferance.

Christy, thanks for posting that it's a T-shirt around Apolo's head! I wondered if they'd done something like that. I was going to call the store near me and ask if they actually had bandanas before I went. Well, I'll still go buy something from them, but I sure did want a bandana.

What are you a fan of?

Thanks for the heads up, tigerlilly -- I'll have to go to the Gap to check it out.
Billiey, I can appreciate various styles of art without them being my personal favorites, so I know what you mean. I tend to gravitate toward the impressionists, with Manet, Cezanne, and Monet holding the most interest for me. But I really do like lots of different styles from various eras. In architecture, I have a soft spot for the work of Antonio Gaudi, who made such wonderfully organic, fanciful, beautifully designed buildings.
Hmmm, I think that I'm going to have to start an art/design thread.

I think my nearest gap store is either Springfield, or St. Louis. Pretty decent distance, but not too bad...

I saw that, Margaret. Actually, the whole article is pretty cute, even if you don't know everyone they're talking about.
They've got the name of the Hispanic soap opera right!

That was a sweet article. I love it when they write that he appeared NAKED in the Gap Ads. Which I still have yet to see. Sweet. I love his nakedness.

I know what you mean, Elle. I love when the words "naked" and Apolo appear in the same sentence.
