what's the difference between first name and middle name? in Malay culture, names like Siti, Nor, Nik, Wan, ertc (i can't remember) are very common and usually we drop it if we're giving nickname......and we count them as first name followed by other names.....

In the US, middle names really don't mean anything. It's just another name, seldom used accept when one of your parents is mad at you, and then instead of just calling you/me Sara, they use there really stern voice and say "Sara Elizabeth, you are in real trouble. You are grounded for the rest of your life!" Sometimes middle names are stuck in there when your mother wants to name you after someone in her family and your dad wants to name you after someone in his family and they compromise by doing both.  Very few people actually use their middle names, unless their first name is hideous and they use their middle name instead. Most people just use their middle initial in their official, legal signature, unless they don't.  Hum, that makes sense...the do unless the don't. |
