Another route is to travel through Milwaukee. American Airlines flies directly into Marquette from Milwaukee.
Alternately, the drive from Milwaukee is beautiful.........if there is no snow on the roads ..........300 miles

are ticket prices about the same for the trials and other competitions? Moderate for both if you're going for general seating. Go to the Trials. Apolo will be there. ETA for Apolostarr: Yes, there will be a Canadian World Cup. World Cups are always paired by continent. Once we knew that there was a World Cup in Marquette, another North American WC was a given, most likely in Canada. The rumor is that it will be in or near Montreal. I know that the Sherbrooke Club (not too far from Montreal) put in a bid. There have probably been other bids. Ticket prices for Canadian ST events are usually quite modest...on a par with the general admission prices for Marquette. It's the airfare up there that will kill you. JMO.

The airport in Marquette is about 12 miles out of town on the site of a former Air Force base. It's small, but that just means that you get to sit by skaters going home on Sunday! When I left at 7:00 a.m. from there in October 6 years ago it was snowing. Otherwise I'm planning nice weather Marquette is right on the lake (forgive me I can't remember my geography or which Great Lake it is). It's practically on the Upper Peninsula and frankly I'm not going there in November!

I'll pass on November too.
Airfare there is a real challenge. the further south you are the harder it is to get there and everything arrives around 9:30 pm regardless of the day. Geez.

I plan on taking a train from NYC to whichever Canada WC ...that seems easier to plan for. As for Trials, I don't know if I can take week off from work and class, same for my mom.
The Canadian WC is that part of trials..'required' like basically will Apolo most likely HIGHLY likely be there?
Thank you Susie on the info!

Has anyone looked at flights through Green Bay, WI? I would think that would be closer than either Milwaukee or Minneapolis. Another option might be to fly through Canada? Granted I'm at the "hub" location for American Airlines, but I always fine the best deals online dealing direct with the airlines. Their prices are the same and there are no surprise "end" charges that Expedia, Travelocity and others sometimes hit you with. Now, if I'm going last minute somewhere, yeah, I bid on a flight at Priceline. Last minute airfare is where the airlines gauge the consumers most.
Regardless of where I connect, it's still a 9:30 arrival time for me. Hope my "roomies" stock the mini-fridge for me. LOL

I'm hearing of a 'price war' going on with the airlines, started by Southwest and trickling down to the others. I don't know if it only affects cities served by Southwest, but it may be worth looking at some airfares to Marquette and the other nearby airports...

Northwest/Delta dropped a lot of their fares yesterday. Since Northwest connects into Marquette from Detroit, you may find some savings. I checked my flight and it didn't go down but it was really low to begin with ($182). My daughter is flying to Seattle this summer on NW and her flight dropped by almost $100.
Here's a hint from a frequent NW flyer (me!). Book through Delta's site. Delta bought NW a while ago and you can get the same prices on NW flights there plus the Delta site is much easier to book from. First you select an outbound flight then pick a return. On Northwest's site, they package them as one ticket and it's harder to find the combo of flights you might want.

Hey thanks - I just went and bought my airline tickets. It was about the same price (actually a bit cheaper) than when I went to SLC and I'm in the Los Angeles area!
So, I watched some of the Curling Olympic Trials on Universal Sports a little while ago. I was fascinated for about 30 seconds.
