Since it looks like going to Olympic Trials in Sept, Plan B is to go to World Cup in November. My vacation time is already set so things look good. ;D
Anyone else planning to go to WC?

I might consider the Canadian WC in its place, but the airfares up there are insane (...even if Montreal, the most likely location, is closer to me.) Go figure. I used to fly up to Toronto quite a bit from around '98 to '01, and the airfares to Canada were comparable to our domestic flights back then. But now they're through the roof.

Is there only 1 WC being held in the US for 2009? If I can only go to 1 event, should I choose the WC or the Olympic trials? Do the skaters who makes it at the trials have to skate @ the WC in Michigan, too? Was it televised for the 2002 and 2006 trials?

Here's an article that gives some pertinent info: www.miningjournal.net/page/content.detail/id/522472.html?nav=5001It does say that WC #5 is 'one of 2 events used to qualify countries for the Winter Games'. I don't know if that means that it holds any special significance for individual US skaters, though. I think that the Trials would be the more important one for the individual skaters, though I could be wrong. Personally, I'll probably pass on the World Cup. I'm sure that the USA will be mightily represented without me, and I'll just hang with the 'flashing numbers' peeps here at home!

I get the impression this was USS's way of making sure they sent the most absolute strongest and most consistant skaters to the Olympics....at least that was my take on it. I also read somewhere that the ISU didn't like that the fall World Cups usually were sparsely represented by the skaters, as they instead spent their time getting ready for the Olympics, so I wonder if the new structure was also an 'appeasement' to said entity.

If you want to see Apolo skate, Olympic Trials is the safe bet. I think the atmosphere at OT will be *electric*. The skaters will be competing for Olympic berths. Do you think you've seen them fight hard before? I don't think we've seen anything yet!

Does anyone know what airport is used for Marquette that everyone will probably be using? We haven't figured that out yet, it looks like you have to fly into either Minneapolis, Chicago or (Detroit?) which are the only major airports, and then take a puddle jumper... Thanks MTNME for the add'l info. Will you be attending all four days of the Oly trials? That's my plan, although there seems to be a question as to WHAT for days....I'm still confused...
