Hi Lori, YOur Jamaicadian got a gold and a silver! Hooray for Olivier Jean! To Mellie, Mntme, Olympia, et.al...I've been an invisible visitor part of the evening as well...I'm sorry I didn't post, I'm still working on the art of being "bi-boardal" and I kept loosing my connection to the flashing numbers and having to reconnect with the board sites...frustrating...but very worth it for the final men's relay...I almost had another heart attack (not that I've had one but I meant like we all almost had in Vancouver at WC #2..That Apolo sure has a super turbo charger inside him..did you see that speed in lap 44...???how many gears does he have? wonder what his fastest lap time is if he isn't blocked? bet we haven't seen it yet...He must truly be part bird, and probably a phoenix because he keeps rising from the "ashes at the end of the pack and flying to the front when least expected!" He just keeps amazing me and I do know that he is amazing..A true master of his sport...so I figure the other races were ones where he is studying his opponents and trying out strategies, all in preparation for Vancouver 2010. The relays are a different matter...he is a team player and a team captain and I think he loves the intensity of the relay team competition better than anything...it keeps him at a high pitch both mentally and physically and uses all his qualities, leadership, speed, strategy, power, technique and competitiveness...wonder what his self says to himself as he flys around the rink?? Must be an awesome conversation. Anyway, hello and goodnight to all you dedicated late nighters..get some rest tomorrow...it's been a lot of late hours this weekend and we may get to do it again next weekend in Japan. Over and out, MUSICAL MOM

Good morning all! See, the problem with being on the east coast when the Cup is in the Pacific rim, is that not only are you the first to go to bed, but you are the first to wake up and there's no one around to talk to! So here's a lonely shout out to the Heartbreak Boys, who pulled it out! Here's proof that there were smiles in Beijing this weekend: (unfortunately Hamelin doesn't look happy). And another one of The Man: You know, with shorttrack, you can run any one race over 10 times, and get 10 different results. That's why we love it...it's so unpredictable. So what are the odds that the US men pull off a #! in the Relay twice in a row? Musicalmom, you said it best, and it sums up the anchor of our deepening and more sophisticated interest in this sport. Yeah, we love Apolo but we have all grown into the sport as others come along. But ya gotta say, when the chips are down, our heart is with this guy: From Musicalmom: That Apolo sure has a super turbo charger inside him..did you see that speed in lap 44...???how many gears does he have? wonder what his fastest lap time is if he isn't blocked? bet we haven't seen it yet...He must truly be part bird, and probably a phoenix because he keeps rising from the "ashes at the end of the pack and flying to the front when least expected!" Must be an awesome conversation."But ya gotta hand it to the home team... Hopefully doonick and susie can find us more pics, and bigger ones!

www.thestar.com/Sports/article/546058Nov 30, 2008 04:30 AM Be the first to comment on this article... Star wire services Charles Hamelin of St. Julie, Que., struck gold in the 500 metres yesterday as Canada cleaned up on the short-track speed skating oval with three medals at a World Cup event in Beijing. Montreal's François-Louis Tremblay took silver behind Hamelin and Olivier Jean of Lachenaie, Que., added a silver of his own in the 1,500 metres. "Charles and I, today, we dominated, we were quite ahead in the final, and it was really fast times, so I'm definitely satisfied," Tremblay told speedskating.ca.

aao, thanks for the pictures. I tried to stay up to watch the 5000m relay but bit the dust after the women's 1000m Final A. Maybe we all need to move to the West coast during ST season. The 5000m relay win certainly topped what was otherwise a disappointing competition for the U.S. (except, of course, for Allison's bronze medal). I guess one consolation to that disappointment is that the Koreans didn't fair well either. The ice certainly favored the Chinese skaters. Are those new boots Apolo has on in that pic? Could that have been the problem? Maybe they're not broken in YET! On to Nagano and another weekend of no sleep. Hopefully, the US skaters in their individual competitions will have a better result. GO TEAM USA!

Thanks aaosmts19 (hey 19) for the photos. I just hate being shut out on photos and video when they're in China. No doubt Japan will be more 'media friendly'. Here was last nights line up that put the pedal to the metal for the win. Or is that the knife to the slippery surface? (nope, that verbage definately doesn't work) UNITED STATES OHNO Apolo Anton SIMON Jeff LEVEILLE Charles Ryan LOBELLO Anthony USA 6:47.432 Good Job guys! And Congrats to Allison, our only individual medal for the weekend. You go girl. Best of luck (or is that better luck) to team USA next weekend! _____________________________________________ And Yes, Breidy...I recognized the new boots too! I'm gonna miss the red ones though...

Congratulations to our men on the relay, and to Allison for the bronze! ;D I was way too wiped out from travelling to stay up last night, but the men's relay result was the first thing that I looked at this morning. Happy news, indeed. I like Apolo's new boots -- they look like black w/metallic gold, or navy w/metallic gold, perhaps? They're a nice change-up from the red boots. 19, you got some nice shots. I've found a few good ones, but I'm having some trouble linking, downloading or otherwise sharing them. I'll see what I can do.

I missed the whole thing last night, too, but it so warms my heart to open up the forum and see YES! YES! YES! ;D ;D ;D and bubbling champagne bottles! Thank you for all the great reporting and pictures.
That Apolo - he's something else (but I'm preaching to the choir). What an amazing team is Team USA. Just think about the life-long bond all of these guys are going to have. Priceless.

Hmmmm, I just noticed something - I'm looking at the podium pic of the relay that 19 posted above, and I see 6 Canadians, 6 USA and 4 Chinese. I looked at the results page for the names of the relay participants in the heats, semi's and finals, and see that the Canadians used all 6 of their guys (hence 6 on the podium), the Chinese used only 4 (hence 4 on the podium)... ...but the USA does not list JR in any of the rounds... yet he's on the podium (I see all 6 of them). I had thought that only those who participated could receive a medal, so I'm wondering if maybe the ISU got the names wrong on the results - maybe one of Ryan's listings was actually JR??? EDIT: And I was remiss in not congratulating Prince Charles on his much-deserved [glow=yellow]GOLD[/glow]!

EDIT: And I was remiss in not congratulating Prince Charles on his much-deserved [glow=yellow]GOLD[/glow]! LOL on "Prince Charles"! It suits him, doesn't it? Lori, I wondered the same thing about J.R. Yup, that's a hunk of metal hanging around his neck. Surely he must have raced in one of the preliminaries? Serena posted some nice shots over at AJ.com, including a blow-up of the medal-stand pic. apolojulianne.proboards102.com/index.cgi?board=talking&action=display&thread=904&page=2Here's a shot of Apolo in the relay. You'll need to cut & paste the web addy into your browser: www.cnsphoto.com/NewsPhoto/ShowNewsDetail.asp?Id=508280&Flag=WNThe search term in the blue box to the left of the "Go!" box means "speed skating" in Chinese (at least to the degree that I can tell, LOL!) Cut and paste that term into the white box to the far left, hit "go", and you should bring up more photos. This is a good site for searching for Chinese videos. Cut and paste "speed skating" (in Chinese) into the search box. cn.truveo.com/In order for any of this to work, you may have to enable your browser to download Chinese characters.

Korea didn't even medal in the relay. When is the last time that happened! By the way, what happened to Lee Seung-hoon and Song Kyung-taek?

Love the pics -- they're adorable! Great job, 19! Maybe Santa will come early for us and give us some Team USA candids. The third photo from the bottom -- nice legs.
