I don't think Apolo should have been DQ'd either. He barely touched the guy. But what's done is done. 8 Olympic medals! He should be proud of himself. That is a huge accomplishment.
It's sad to think this was his last Olympics but no one ever knows what the future holds.

It's sad to think this was his last Olympics but no one ever knows what the future holds. Last night, I was thinking that I've been watching him skate since 2002 and I almost can't imagine short track without him. I'll still enjoy the sport and I'll be cheering for the U.S. skaters but it will feel a bit different. I went to the World Championships in 2006 and it was great; it just felt different because Apolo wasn't there. As far as the DQ, I have my doubts whether or not the touch was enough to cause the Canadian skater to fall. I do remember a similar incident at a World Cup a few years ago where Apolo was DQ'd for a similar touch. After that incident, we had some in depth conversations about it on Ohnozone with most fans believing that the touch wasn't strong enough to warrant a DQ, but one fan (a skater I think) stepped in and said that, when these short trackers are going 35-40 miles/hr and leaning at those crazy angles, even a small touch can send someone careening into the wall. I don't know how accurate that statement is; it's just an idea someone put out there. I think, though, that, if Apolo's touch got him a DQ, the touch by Charles Hamlin on the Korean skater just a few seconds later might have been worthy of a DQ as well. I would be sorry for Charles to get DQ'd; he is an awesome skater and has paid his dues to the sport.

Someon MUST rip that medal ceremony. I HAVE TO HAVE IT!!!!!! I need Kwak's dance as a GIF. I have to!!! J.R. wasn't lying when he said his was hilarious! I laughed out loud. Haha.
I love Lee Ho-suk. He's such a veteran skater and knows to leave things on the ice. Sucks that he had a crappy Olympics.

Well, it's this way. In the 500m final in 2006 it was Apolo in lane 1 and Flour Trembly in lane 2. There had already been 3 false starts so every one was really tense. Any skater you ask will tell you that Apolo was moving before the gun and probably should have been called for a false start. But as he said this week in an interveiw, "Hey they didn't call it back!" He barely beat Flou to the first block and the rest is history. Now, if the Canadian ref had not DQ'd Apolo Flou would have not gotten any individual medal in the games. A call that could have gone either way? Pay back Canada. Apolo has been the beneficiary of some questionable calls, as he said "That's short track." Still, it bugs me that Charlie Hamlin also touched the Korean's hip and HE went down but no call against Charlie. Still I'm really happy to see Hamlin get the gold He' deserves it...he skated a great race. I'm happy for Flou too. Though he never got the gold everyone thought he would he has a silver and bronze in the 500. Nothing to be ashamed of.
Apolo should not have been 4th starting out in lane 3. Don't know why he didn't have good starts in the 500....but once he gets that engine going he is phenomenal. I've never seen better skating, he was just amazing. Trisha I also agreed that it just won't be the same. Apolo Ohno changed my life. Got me skating, getting in shape, meeting new friends learning how to use the internet, lol. He will be the standard against which all other American short trackers will be measured. I think those 8 winter medals will be the bar for a long long time. Thanks for the memories~~

Memories indeed. So great to see Apolo doing his thing in Vancouver. I'll miss looking forward to seeing him in the Olympics, but I'll wait with eager anticipation for the next way he'll wow us, whatever that may be.

that was an awesome tribute and an awesome interview =) As to the 500...Okay. I'll admit that I was pretty pissed on Fri. However...since then, I've been thinking, and came to the realization that if Apolo's not b*tching about the result, then neither will I. Onward to 2014, and congratulations, Apolo! =D

Hey Hanson, Laura, Mellie! Great to see some familiar names! Yes, it has been a long time since I've posted. Been busy working hard and playing hard and enjoying life. Seeing Apolo again on the big screen in his element, soaking up every moment of this sport he loves and the life he's chosen inspired me to come back and see how y'all were doing.
Can't get enough of that Olympic spirit and Apolo captures it so completely. Even when he doesn't win, he shines. There's a grace in that that's so genuine, so right so beautiful. It takes my breath away and makes me want to take a little piece of that Olympic torch and carry it with me through all the myriad moments of my day to day life and, win or lose, remember always to shine.

Hi Everyone!
Sorry I've been gone sooo long.
I have a question. I do have photos from VanCity that I posted on Facebook. If I post Olympic pics here on this site, is it to be only Apolo photos???
I'd like to post pics of the other athletes too... but didn't know where y'all wanted them.

Finally, this morning I was able to post photos of Mens 1500m over at 'Apolo pictures'. Other photos will still have to be uploaded to Photobucket; it's such a slow procedure!
