I am a bit tired about this subject. I already know wot I'd like for Apolo to chose. But since he's going to do wot he pleases, I just hope he has a very good time doing it and that it really could be worth while.
I just very much love him on the ice. I very much think that he could do much better than acting. Acting which is something that half of America wants to pursue.

I missed this wonderfully interesting thread while I was on vacation, but I just read the whole thing! Might I add that everyone here has come up with very good reasons why Apolo should or should not continue skating. I just want to add into the mix that I hope whatever Apolo decides to do, that he will be happy. I'm a little leery (sp?) of the Hollywood scene, because it seems like that life can be very empty. Scandals, breakups, intrusions into personal lives... And although Apolo can't deny he's a celebrity, he does seem to some extent to want to have a private life (who can blame him!). What if Hollywood mistreated him? Then again, like others have said, he could be very unhappy returning to a sport that is in the state it's in right now. Either way, I want him to be happy. Question, tho: Just imagine this. Apolo leaves short track, goes to college, gets a degree in, I don't know, Business or something, and settles down to a life of office work and business, gets married to a wonderful woman and has three kids. Could he ever do it? Does he have too much fire in him? Do you think as he grows older he would ever consider living that way?

I have often thought of that myself Lindsey..I totally see him eventually getting married and having a family..I think he has to so some wild oats for a while..and enjoy some freedom from his rigid schedule..I am leery n of the movie biz..I fear it will be disaaterous{sp}..sorry it is very early!! for him...a columnist equated his movie career to Robbie Bensons Ice Castles pt 2

I think he could settle down eventually to a wonderful woman and 3 kids, but I don't think he could ever give up the lime light completely. He has had a taste of it and it is now in his blood. He might not need to be in front of a camera or skating, but he will always need to be in the public eye. Now, whether that would have to be in the entertainment field, I would say not necessarily. But if he does go into some business field, or whatever, he will need to be in charge. He will need the power position. The only celebs I know of, be they athletes or whatever, that have left the lime-light for other things, are either in power positions, or the are on drugs or alcoholics, or whatever. The celeb power trip is addictive and has to be fed.

"a columnist equated his movie career to Robbie Bensons Ice Castles pt 2"
How can you compare his "movie career" to someone else when he doesn't have one yet? If he chooses to go that route, I'm going to wait until he's actually done something before I form an opinion.
I agree that he likes the spotlight. Seeing as he's going to be meeting the Japanese Prime Minister, and apparently the Japanese Ambassador at a White House dinner, maybe some sort of political career would appeal to him.
I can't imagine why, though.

I do not know if he would be interested in politics...I have never evn heard him say anything political..I do think he would like to do acting though I am not sure how that would work out.. BTW,,,I was going thru my old articles of him and I ran across the cosmo thing..I find it intersting that when asjked what kind of girl he likes he immediatly replied..shy..and whatever and as an awkward afterthought added girls who are in business..hu8bby told me "oh yea I always like girls in business...LOL

Governor Ohno? I give that a big OH NO! He's too honest to be a politician. At least I hope he is.

Do you think as he grows older he would ever consider living that way? obviously we can't predict what's ahead of our lives.....and whatever happens, it happens for a reason....and in apolo's case, it could happen!! i mean, he is a human being and most of people in this world live a life like that.....a normal life to be precise.....and if apolo choose to live a life like that, it's okay for me as long as he's happy.....happiness is the important thing in life besides faith, education and your contribution the world(IMO)......let's just pray for apolo to have a happy way....in what way, it doesn't matter

he does like the limelight but he is obviously self-disciplined enough to stay out of it when his career demands it (like during training). If one day his family and job became more important, perhaps that would be a demand to stay out of the limelight. just my speculations. imho, apolo would make a bad politician. i agree with laura and torinogal - apolo is just too nice!!

This topic seems a little dead, but I'll post my opinion anyway...
I'd love for Apolo to keep skating, especially since I pretty much just "discovered" who he was and the sport of short track this year while watching the Olympics. But of course it's totally his decision, and if he decides to take another route in entertainment, business, or whatever that's fine. I just really hope he chooses the right path and does what is best for him, and not let anyone persuade him to do something he's not comfortable with. Most importantly I just hope he doesn't get "changed" if he take the entertainment route...

He's been in the entertainment industry already for years. He is a star whenever the Olympics role around, and he handles it well.
I think he would keep a level head if he became popular as an actor. He has had a taste of the hysteria that can suddenly surround you, and has seen how quickly it can go away. I doubt that he would take stardom, or himself, all that seriously.

Well, I actually don't care what he does. Just as long as he doesn't do something...stupid. I'm not sure what that would be "stupid", but I still worry.

I think all of us are concerned with this topic in some way or another because we realize that Apolo is still so young. He has so much ahead of him. I guess I've seen so many people take the wrong path, and I respect Apolo so much for coming this far. I think many of us have the same opinion as pink64 -- choose your own way, Apolo, but be smart about it. That's something we all can be proud of.
