Those pictures after the relay were awesome! Thank you so much. I did get 4 minutes of video of the relay semifinal, but got too dizzy to follow the action in ovals beyond that. For the finals, like Sam, I forgot to take pictures I was so excited. Just cheered my head off.
Karma to you for keeping your eye to the lens ( yes, it makes a difference) pesistently so we could all enjoy your photographic captures of moments we'll remember for a long time. Although this was my first sh. track meet, I'm betting that was one of the most exciting relays ever.
Do you know if the lap times were exceptionally fast? It seemed so much faster than the quarter and semi finals?
Much as we appreciate your posting, hope you find the time to enjoy Halloween with your grandchildren!

Update on J.R.'s standings after WC2
J.R. has improved his world cup standings from WC1 to WC2:
4th Overall in the 1500m and 10th Overall in the 1000m!!!

In 2 weeks he heads to Bay City, MI to defend his Juniors title. Go J.R.

mm...i'm thinking since both the koreans and chinese teams were eliminated before the final, that speed-wise this mens finals did not break any world records.
on the other hand, at wc #1 in slc, at the kearns oval which is touted as the fastest ice in the world, the korean team outpaced everyone else. this created a pace so fast that all 3 finalists (korea, usa & canada?) broke the world record with korea setting the new one.


eta: here are the time results which shows that the semis were faster than the finals.
CANADA 6:50.561 Semifinals 2
UNITED STATES 6:51.764 Semifinals 1
UNITED STATES 6:52.147 Finals
CANADA 6:52.224 Finals
what it does not show is how fast each lap was. the finals most likely started off slower then really picked up speed towards the end of the race.

They did suddenly start flying about lap 10 as I recall.

You can always check the lap times for a race by clicking on "Splits."

Go to whatever race you are looking for and next to the Heat No. there is a blue link named "Splits" - click on that and the lap times come up.

CBC to rebroadcast Vancouver short-track World Cup

CBC will show highlights of last weekend's short track World Cup Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. CBC is available to most local Comcast subscribers; check your local listings.

It was a good weekend for J.R. Celski (helmet number, 593) and the U.S. men's squad, which grabbed a couple podium finishes and then went on to win the team relay.

The short trackers head to Asia for their next World Cup action.

Wow,
Thanks everyone...until I looked at these numbers and splits I didn't realize how many times 1st and 2nd place changed between Canada and the U.S. and yes the times were mostly faster in the last 10 laps...I believe somewhere Apolo was quoted as saying that the relay started off "slow"...it sure didn't end that way.
I think the fastest split time that I saw was the u.s. with an 8.52 in the 39th lap. Oh my heavens was that a race! ;D ;D
