That explanation is something I'd be willing to be okay with, but some of the others don't seem justified. Those are kind of kooky and I have NEVER heard of those explanations. It's as if they "magically" popped up into the air the past couple of months because since I've been stalking ST, those excuses were never used. But maybe it's because *gasp* WE'RE GETTING BETTER?! ;]

I certainly do not agree with them..but the USS has always been very slow in change..or they used to be.

I don't remember the picture-taking rules...maybe because I've never been to a practice (that wasn't attached to an event). But at the events - it's common sense...flash distracts. And I think USS will always be slow unless someone else takes the advice of others or takes over.

Apolo in I think 03 wrote a very detailed letter to or about the USS that was posted on his older site that was not well maintained but it was on that site for along time. I believe Allison as well as other skaters had a lot of problems with the USS, and also were very vocal about it..I want to say in 03. Can't exactly remember the time frame.

I remember both of them, I think. I remember a lot had to do with coaching cause a coach resigned. But in terms of USS, I bet there are a lot of people who have trouble with them and just aren't vocal. It's a wonder that so many still train with them.

It's sad because speedskating is such an awesome sport and no one knows about it. It really is..and even with Apolo being on DWTS they are having a hard time rising to the occasion...It has always had a small but loyal following But also, people should realize its the skaters who do not want photography at certain times.

If USS stated that skaters have complained, then we as fans have to respect that. But they make it sound as if it's them, not the skaters. And USS also needs to recognize that it has LOYAL fans (and even though we are sometimes frustrated with them), we love the sport and that isn't going to change. But it would be nice for them to recognize that and maybe even feed off of it. A little exposure never hurt anyone.

If it's the skaters who don't want photography at practice, then I support them 100 percent. I wouldn't even question it. I'm going to imagine that everyone else here feels the same. Videocams at meets? Sorry, but I'm still not seeing it, and I'm at a loss as to how the skaters could possibly object. A knowledgable friend of mine once called Apolo, "the best gift to the sport of short track speedskating that USS ever squandered". With interest in short track at an all-time high due to fan interest in Apolo, isn't NOW the time to be encouraging even more fan interest in the sport? Lori, by all means give USS the link to this thread. And I love, love, love the idea of a non-voting "fan representative". If my local school board can tolerate having a teenage high-school student representattive, then I'm guessing that USS could get used to the notion that we the fans would like to have our views (at least) taken into account. And I'm willing to bet that Apolo would support the fans as well. Just IMO.

I guess i should have been specific...no isea about videocams..just told about cameras..I assumed it was the flash..or whatever.. It would be nice for our views to count!! Thats for sure!!
