Jenn...yeah, I hope they listen and aren't stupid or too d**n proud to get out and are able to get out! My old high school is under water. The town where my old high school is is pretty much completly under water.
Tabs...glad you aren't having any problems with flooding. That statue sounds creepy! Where in Illinois are you?
Power went out in half the town...I was in the middle of a meeting at the gym and there wasn't any windows.....it got quite dark...couldn't see my hand in front of my face! Don't know what caused the outage.

Man, this weather is nutty. I'm about 60 miles are so from the mississippi river. calhoun county, where most of my fam is from, gets flooded at times. there's a river through there, and, the county borders missouri. our creeks flooded about 5 yrs ago. It was just feet from touching the roads.

I was freakin out tonight cause my best friend and I were going home from the movie theater and she kept saying how she's from Texas and the clouds we were seeing looked like Tornado clouds. And I ain't kidding ya, the clouds turned black and we started racing through the streets to my house. I looked up the weather on the internet and realized it was just a Thunderstorm watch. I was relieved.
I hope everybody is safe in your town. This weather is just nuts.

Wow jenn, that is scary!!! It can be hard to tell the difference between a funnel shaped cloud (just a normal cloud) and a funnel cloud. Remember a real funnel cloud will be rotating. Another scary cloud is the Wall cloud...those can produce some big tornadoes! Had one pass over my town a couple of years ago...the base of the wall cloud was wider than my whole town. It was so weird, I went outside (I'm not all that smart) and the whole sky looked like it was rotating and in the center it was just blue sky...it was really freaky!!!

Oh my, that's scary. See, I never seen a tornado before and I don't know what they look like. But my best friend did so whatever she said I went with. And there were debry on the ground from tree's and stuff. But the clouds weren't rotating. We saw a weather cop type car go by us so we're like freaking out and everybody else in their cars didn't know what was going on. They were going slow as snails. But it was just a thunderstorm, really bad one. Thank goodness.

yea thunderstorms can be as damaging if not more damaging than a tornado. The straight line winds that hit right before the storm, those are bad....we have had 100 mph straight line winds before. I have only been in 1 tornado and that was probably 10 years ago. All I remember is seeing the branches from the tree out front hitting the basement window. It was the 4th of July, and there were a bunch of people at the park, and they sounded the sirens. We had walked to the park, so we ran home and got in the basement just as the tornado hit. Knocked down a couple of tree's and a couple of garages but nothing bad. I belive it was an EF2.

Awh, that must have been frightning.. and on July 4th. I would have rain so fast just to get to my house. All I worried about before I got home was how my family was doing. I heard thunderstorms can turn into tornados. I was talking to my friend after she dropped me off at my house and she kept screaming at the clouds to not droop. cause if they droop they become tornados. And one was about to drop right in front of her car. It was terrifying.

Yeah, severe thunderstorms can turn into tornadoes, but only if there is roatiation in the storm, and normally if there is rotation in the storm even a little bit, they will issue a tornado warning. Tornadoes need rotation to be able to form, that is what gives them the funnel shape. I'm glad it wasn't a tornado where you are.
They have started issuing more evacuations all across NE Iowa. And it is raining again! Up to 5 more inches or rain expected in the next few days!!
