I: Interviewer
A: Apolo
I: Hey Apolo. Happy birthday to you!
A: Thank you.
I: What did you do for your birthday?
A: That's why I'm here. This city. Just kinda having fun. Having a few friends around. Hanging out and having a good time.
I: What did you do for your birthday - that you can tell us about?
A: Yeah, you know, I'm still kinda up from last night and then tonight they want to throw another party, so we'll see...
I: Oh man, lucky you! We have some video of you from a few years ago, just a few years ago right here. (Video starts to play. Apolo is in front of his bedroom door, changing out a "12" for "13." Yuki is filming and singing Happy Birthday.) Do you remember this day? You were twelve, going on 13.
A: Oh my god....that's bad.
I: You remember this?
A: Yeah, that's my dad...video taping... That's bad. (Apolo looks like he can't believe they're playing the video.)
I: It's cool to embarrass you this early on a Saturday morning.
(Video ends.)
You have been a busy guy; in addition to skating, you have been in People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People.
(Apolo laughs.)
I: You've got a lot of stuff going on. With everything happening in your life, is it hard to focus on skating?
A: No, not for me. As soon as I get on the ice, I feel this is the place for me. You know, I've had so much support from my father. Short track speed skating has come a long way since Salt Lake City with the help from a lot of fans who provide information for other people who don't know anything about short track...and my website is coming out next month, which is going to be unbelievable for short track, to promote everything about that...and then other websites where people can go check is, like,

I: (Interjects) Man, you're all over the place!
A: Yeah.
I: What goes through your mind when you're out there on the ice competing?
A: (Apolo lets out long breath.) I don't know. It's different every time. Just pretty much total concentration, you know. Just doing my thing.
I: Any predictions for Italy in 2006?
A: No predictions. (Interviewer laughs.) No, short track's not that kind of sport. Yeah, hopefully, I can be there and perform my best. That's my goal.
I: But you're feeling good, having a good time?
A: Oh my god...unbelievable time.
I: They (or "we..." Interviewer was unintelligle) sent a cake over for you. (Shows birthday cake.)
A: I know. This is beautiful!
I: Can you get a shot of this? (Tilts cake towards camera. It has a picture of Apolo and "Happy 21st birthday, Apolo!" on it.) I've been doing this show for 6 years, Apolo. I've never gotten a cake!
A: You've never gotten a cake? (Apolo laughs)
I: I just want you to know! Hey, Happy birthday, once again!
A: Oh, thank you. Thank you very much!
I: Continued success!
